Abstract:Alkylation of benzene with ethylene over Y-type zeolite has been carried out under supercritical conditions. Two aspects of the reaction have been paid attention to: slowing down the deactivation rate and decreasing the by product selectivity. Experiments have revealed the existence of some coke precursors that are partly removed from the catalyst surface. By product xylenes are decreased and are explained due to high diffusivity in the supercritical fluid.

Abstract:The alkylation of benzene with ethylene over beta zeolite to produce ethylbenzene is conducted in all five near-critical regions: supercritical fluid, low-pressure vapor, vapor-liquid two-phase, high-pressure liquid, and low-pressure liquid. The operating conditions vary from 5.4 to 7.4 MPa at an ethylene mole fraction of up to 0.3. A differential reactor is applied to study the reaction behavior, primarily the reaction rates under different conditions. When the operating pressure remains unchanged the reaction rate sometimes undergoes two rate peaks with an increase in the ethylene fraction. Correlations between the reaction rate and the pressure show that the maximum rates can be found under pressures near the critical pressure. The rate "valley" corresponds to the liquid-vapor two-phase region. This might be explained by the fact that, in the two-phase region, the repeated phase shifts can cause some harmful effects on the catalyst.

Abstract:Alkylation of benzene with ethylene to ethylbenzene over a β-zeolite catalyst is carried out in the five different near critical regions. With the application of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), structures of the catalysts used under the five different near critical conditions are compared with those of the fresh catalyst. The results show that the high pressure operating conditions, including the supercritical fluid operation, may be harmful to the catalyst structure, and the operation in the vapor–liquid state near the critical point may cause heavy destruction to the catalyst. The coking mechanism of the catalysts is suggested based on element material analysis (EMA) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) characterization. Supercritical and other near critical operations are compared.

Abstract:HZSM-5 molecular sieve catalysts were used to catalyze the alkylation reaction of benzene and ethyl chloride to form ethyl benzene in a fixed-bed reactor.The effects of n(SiO2)∶n(Al2O3) in the HZSM-5,reaction temperature,n(benzene)∶n(ethyl chloride) and LHSV on the alkylation were studied.With increase of n(SiO2)∶n(Al2O3),the acidic sites on the HZSM-5 molecular sieves decreased and the acid strength lowered.Under the optimum conditions: n(SiO2)∶n(Al2O3) in the HZSM-5 molecular sieves 25,reaction temperature 573-613 K,n(benzene) ∶n(ethyl chloride) 8.0-10.0 and LHSV 4-6 h-1,the benzene conversation was 9.56% and the ethyl benzene selectivity reached 97.44%.At low temperature the xylene isomers were not found in the alkylation,and when the temperature rose,a little of xylenes was observed

Abstract:The benzene-ethylene alkylation reaction under the supercritical fluid (SCF) condition has been investigated in many experimental aspects. The experimental results show that the catalyst activity life under the SCF condition is much longer than that under the liquid phase condition, because the coke precursor which deactativates catalysts can be resolved in SCF and quickly removed from the reaction region. In the paper the coke precursor substances were determined and the catalysts were analyzed by several methods. A fact is stated that SCF can improve the catalyst coke-deactivation process based on its properties (having good solubility and diffusibility).

Abstract:The paper introduces the mechanism and kinetics of the alkylation of benzene with ethylene to produce ethylbenzene. The alkylation reaction mechanism that takes place in the surface of the ZSM-5 catalyst and the [bmim]Cl/FeCl3 ionic liquid catalyst is described; at the same time the alkylation reaction kinetics is put forward based on the corresponding mechanism. The method obtained aids in the understanding of the microcosmic process of alkylation for adapting to the necessity of industrialization.

Abstract:HZSM-5 zelolites with different Si/Al ratios(25,38,50),nano-scale HZSM-5,and the modified HZSM-5 were used in the synthesis of ethylbenzene by the alkylation of benzene with ethanol.And the activity,selectivity and desulphurization effect of the zeolites were studied.The results show that the lower the Si/Al ratio the higher the activity,and the better the desulphurization effect.The nano-scale HZSM-5 and B-HZSM-5 have higher activity,selectivity and longer operation life.

Abstract:The process of benzene/methanol alkylation reaction was studied thermodynamically based on functional group contribution method of Benson. Results show that ortho-xylene (OX), Ethyl-benzene (EB) and tri-methylbenzene (TMB) are the main byproduct in alkylation of benzene by methanol and the suppression of OX, EB and TMB over hierarchical porous HZSM-5 or other types of acidic solid catalysts still remains a great challenge. To overcome these limitations, we modified hierarchical ZSM-5 with ruthenium (Ru) to evaluate the alkylation of benzene with methanol in a fixed-bed continuous flow reactor. It was found that the presence of a small amount of Ru in ZSM-5 catalyst would largely suppress the formation of EB, reduce the selectivity of OX and TMB, and also extend greatly the live time of the catalyst. Abstract:Alkylation of benzene with carbon dioxide (CO2) is significant for converting greenhouse gas and surplus benzene into value-added toluene and xylene. Herein, a bifunctional catalyst comprising Zn/Ga oxides and HZSM-5 zeolite was developed to efficiently promote the methylation of benzene with CO2 and H-2. This catalytic system exhibited excellent performance at 425 ? and 3.0 MPa, through which benzene conversion of 39.1% and total xylene/toluene selectivity of 92.7% have been achieved. Furthermore, the catalysts are carefully characterized; compositions of Zn/Ga oxides and Si/Al ratios of HZSM-5 zeolite are recognized as decisive factors for reaction activity and selectivity respectively. Additionally, primary reaction pathways are explored and testified to provide detailed understanding for the establishment of reaction networks, especially for mechanisms of eth-ylbenzene evolution. These findings are able to provide more deep insights into the process of benzene alkyl-ation, which further facilitates the emergence of effective catalysts with potential industrial applications.

Abstract:Alkylation of coking benzene with ethanol and desulfurization was investigated over HZSM-5 catalyst modified by boron via ion exchange. Characterization of the modified catalyst by XRD and BET indicated that pore diameter,BET surface area and micropore volume of the catalyst declined after modification. Selectivity to ethylbenzene declined slightly while benzene conversion increased. The optimum condition was as Mows: (350-400)? ,n( benzene) :n(ethanol) =(3:1) ~(5:l), WHSV (4-6) h-1.

Abstract:para-Xylene is an important chemical for industry. In this work, alkylation of benzene with syngas (ABS) is carried out to prepare toluene and xylene over zinc/chromium (Zn/Cr) oxide and modified HZSM-5. The catalyst with a Zn/Cr ratio of 1.6 and 20% (wt) silicate-1 zeolite (S1) coated HZSM-5 has the best catalytic performance, exhibiting 34.4% benzene conversion and 94.7% total selectivity of toluene and xylene, with 73.2% of xylene as para-xylene. The catalyst is carefiilly characterized; results showed that the activity was enhanced by excessive zinc atoms, which would replace the surface chromium atoms, and this substitution led to more oxygen vacancies. Besides, by coating a layer of S1 on HZSM-5, the production of trimethylbenzene was suppressed and the selectivity of para-xylene among all xylene was increased, due to the coverage of zeolite surface acid sites. These findings are helpful for understanding the one-pot syngas conversion and benzene alkylation processes.

Abstract:Liquid-phase alkylation of benzene and dichloromethane as alkylating agent to diphenylmethane with acidic ionic liquids such as Et3NHCl–AlCl3, Et3NHCl–FeCl3, Et3NHCl–ZnCl2, Et3NHCl–CuCl2, Et3NHCl–SnCl2 and Et3NHCl–SnCl4 was investigated. The results showed that Et3NHCl–AlCl3 proved to be superior catalytic activity to other five ionic liquids with the conversion of 83.8% and the selectivity of 86.3% at a moderate temperature. Meanwhile, the influence of reaction conditions on the reaction, the reaction kinetics and the usability of the catalyst were explored.

Abstract:Et_3N·H-AlCl_3 ionic liquid as the catalyst was used in alkylation of benzene with ethyl chloride. The influence of reaction temperature, molar ratio of benzene to ethyl chloride, catalyst dosage, reaction time and the reusability of the ionic liquid were investigated. The results of qualitative analysis by GC-MS and quantitative analysis by GC showed that ethyl chloride conversion of 95.52% and selectivity to ethyl benzene of 83.43% were attained under the the optimum condition as follows : reaction temperature 60 ℃, molar ratio of benzene to ethyl chloride 10:1,catalyst dosage 10% of the total mass of benzene and ethyl chloride,and reaction time 15 min. Et_3N·H-AlCl_3 ionic liquid could be recycled,and the catalyst activity had no obvious change after repeated use for 4 times.

Abstract:Chloroaluminate ionic liquid catalyst was used in alkylation of benzene with ethyl chloride to ethyl benzene.The effects of feeding mode,ratio between the reactants,reaction temperature and catalyst dosage on the alkylation were studied.The catalyses of Cl-AlCl3 ionic liquid and AlCl3 in the alkylation were compared.The results indicated that under the optimum conditions of reaction temperature 70 ℃,n(benzene)∶n(ethyl chloride) 8.0-10.0 : 1,catalyst dosage(based on the total reactant mass) 10%,reaction time 20-30 min and semi-batch feeding mode,the conversion of benzene and the selectivity to ethyl benzene could reach 9.48% and 93.65%,respectively.Catalytic activity of Cl-AlCl3 ionic liquid in the alkylation was significantly higher than that of aluminum chloride.

Abstract:MCM-56 analogues were postsynthesized via a mild acid treatment technique from hydrothermally synthesized MCM-22 lamellar precursors with Si/Al ratios of 15–45. The physicochemical properties of MCM-56 were characterized by XRD, SEM, N2 adsorption, XPS, 29Si and 27Al MAS NMR, NH3-TPD and pyridine adsorption IR techniques. In comparison to MCM-22 with 3-dimensional MWW topology, the postsynthesized MCM-56 showed a broad X-ray diffraction of emerged 101 and 102 reflections and possessed a structural disorder along the layer stacking direction. Composed of partially delaminated MWW nanosheets, MCM-56 analogues had a larger external surface than MCM-22. The MCM-56 and MCM-22 catalysts were employed in the liquid-phase alkylation of benzene with ethylene. MCM-56 analogues exhibited a higher yield of ethylated benzenes and a higher catalytic stability than MCM-22, proving to serve as promising solid-acid catalysts for processing bulky molecules in petrochemical industry.

Abstract:Zeolites of ZSM-5,ZSM-11 and hierarchical pore structure ZSM-11 were synthesized via steam-crystallization and characterized by XRD,SEM,NH3-TPD,BET and TG techniques.The results show that synthesized ZSM-5 and ZSM-11 possesses similar BET surface area,micropore volume,crystal size,and acidity.Mesopores were introduced in hierarchical ZSM-11,and the micropores of the ZSM-11 sieve were retained.In the alkylation of benzene with methanol,ZSM-11 showed better activity and stability compared with ZSM-5,owing to the higher diffusion rates of the C7,C8 and other aromatics in ZSM-11 sieve.Hierarchical ZSM-11 performed further improvement in activity in contrast with conventional ZSM-11.At 460 C,0.20 MPa and the WSHV of 3 h 1,the benzene conversion reaches 54.3％,and the total selectivity for toluene and xylene is 91.9％ with xylene selectivity of 37.9％.Meanwhile,the activity of hierarchical ZSM-11 is stable after 240 h on stream,showing better stability than micropore ZSM-5 sieve.

Abstract:Aiming at the xylene isomerization catalyst for dealkylation of ethylbenzene to benzenen,the technological conditions based on industrial operating results are studied. When the feed weight hourly space velocity is 9. 89 h- 1,ethylbenzene mass fraction is 4. 81% and hydrogen purity is not less than 70%,the influences of temperature and pressure on reaction are investigated,and the results are analyzed and discussed. The suitable reaction temperature is 378 ℃ and pressure is 1. 31 MPa.

Abstract:The selective synthesis of specific value-added aromatic hydrocarbons through CO2 hydrogenation holds significant strategic importance in mitigating energy and climate issues. However, the process of forming ethylated side chains on benzene rings is challenging, and the methods reported are often limited by multi-bed systems. Here, we show the first CO2 hydrogenation in tandem coupling with benzene alkylation to synthesize ethylbenzene over a single-bed system containing ZnFeOx and nano ZSM-5 catalysts. The results indicated that the bifunctional catalyst composed of ZnFeOx with a Zn/Fe ratio of 0.5 and nano-HZSM-5 exhibits excellent catalytic performance under optimized conditions. The benzene conversion reaches 28.0 %, ethylbenzene selectivity is 61.3 % and the conversion of CO2 is remarkably high, achieving 45.0 %. This single-bed system significantly promotes the in-situ utilization of ethylation intermediates. The introduction of zinc promoted the formation of ZnFe2O4 spinel, which increased the number of active sites due to its superior dispersibility and reducibility. Nano-HZSM-5 demonstrated outstanding ethylbenzene selectivity and catalytic stability owing to its unique shape selectivity, moderate acidity, and superior diffusion properties. This study further explores the reaction network and mechanism through GC-MS analysis and various model reactions, elucidating the formation pathways of primary products in detail. This research provides a new strategy for the controllable synthesis of ethylbenzene using CO2 as a C1 source in a single-bed system.
