Abstract:Sampling of photoelectric imaging system could infinitely replicate the scene spectrum in spectrum space.If the sampling intervals were too large to satisfy the Nyquist criterion,the replicas would be overlapped and there was aliasing.The optical transfer function could demonstrate that how the optical imaging,integral sampling and reconstruction affected the overall performance.The optical transfer function was used for analysis of the photoelectric imaging system with OLPF.The results show that optic low-pass filter could effectively limit the scene spectrum width and critically satisfy Nyquist sampling condition,so the aliasing could be eliminated and quality of the image reconstructed is improved.

Abstract:The principle that measuring the Optical Transfer Function (OTF) of infrared hybrid opticalsystem in knife-edge scanning was introduced. Using this method, a measurement system for performance ofinfrared hybrid optical system was designed, and it can be used in measurement of Point Spread Function andOTF. The imaging quality of 3～5 μm-wavelength infrared hybrid optical system was evaluated, and theresult was given. This measurement system has the actual meaning to the design, processing and imagequality evaluation of infrared hybrid optical system.

Abstract:We report a simultaneous image compression and encryption scheme based on solving a typical optical inverse problem. The secret images to be processed are multiplexed as the input intensities of a cascaded diffractive optical system. At the output plane, a compressed complex-valued data with a lot fewer measurements can be obtained by utilizing error-reduction phase retrieval algorithm. The magnitude of the output image can serve as the final ciphertext while its phase serves as the decryption key. Therefore the compression and encryption are simultaneously completed without additional encoding and filtering operations. The proposed strategy can be straightforwardly applied to the existing optical security systems that involve diffraction and interference. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the validity and security of the proposal.

Abstract:The ghost imaging can perform Fourier-space filtering by tailoring the configuration. We proposed a novel optical secure image verification system based on this theory with the help of phase matched filtering. In the verification process, the system key and the ID card which contain the information of the correct image and the information to be verified are put in the reference and the test paths, respectively. We demonstrate that the ghost imaging configuration can perform an incoherent correlation between the system key and the ID card. The correct verification manifests itself with a correlation peak in the ghost image. The primary image and the image to be verified are encrypted and encoded into pure phase masks beforehand for security. Multi-image secure verifications can also be implemented in the proposed system.
Optical Image Encryption Based on Spiral Phase Transform and Generalized Fibonacci Chaos

Abstract:In this paper, an optical image encryption algorithm based on spiral phase transform and new generalized fibonacci chaotic system is proposed to solve the problems of the Fresnel domain double random phase coding system is insensitive to the first diffraction distance,uneven distribution of chaotic sequences and weak resistance to choice plaintext attack. The plaintext image is encoded as phase information and spiral phase transformed to overcame the insensitivity of the first random phase template and diffraction distance of the Fresnel diffraction transform-double random phase encoding system. The sensitivity of the optical keys is improved. The weighted interference between secure image and plaintext image is added to further increase the sensitivity of the optical keys and dimension of key. A generalized Fibonacci chaotic system, which could generate uniform sequences, is constructed to generate phase templates to overcame uneven distribution of logistic chaos and improve the efficiency of key transmission and the sensitivity of the keys. The chaotic initial value and parameters of spiral phase transform are related to SHA-256. It makes the keys change with the plaintext and achieved the effect of "one encryption at a time", and enhanced the sensitivity of the plaintext and the ability of the resistance to choice plaintext attack and avalanche effect.Experimental comparison shows that this method can effectively increase the plaintext sensitivity and key sensitivity. This method' robustness and the key space are sufficiently secure. It is a high security optical image encryption method.

Abstract:<p>Since the ptychographic encoding can transform the secret information into series of diffractive patterns optically, it achieves the high security for information hiding. However, traditional ptychographic encoding requires the mechanical movements of the illuminated probe or the hidden object, which accumulates the errors greatly reducing the decoding quality. The errors have been reduced with the way of the single-shot ptychographic encoding, while its reliability and the decoding quality are still unideal. To solve these problems, we propose a non-mechanical ptychography to hide optical information for the first time. The core of this method includes both the non-mechanical ptychographic encoding (NPE) via a spatial light modulator and the decoding algorithm constrained with the phase-only quick respond code (PQR). NPE completely eliminates the errors arising from the ptychographic scanning, and the PQR-constrained decoding algorithm enables the high-quality information extracted from even only a few embedded diffractive patterns. The optical experiments verify that the method can achieve satisfactory robustness performance with the high repeatability, real-time encoding speed and the excellent information fidelity.</p>

Abstract:<p>In the traditional optical cryptosystems based on computational ghost imaging, a large number of phase-only masks or speckle patterns are generated to reconstruct the object image with high visual quality. At the same time, this kind of massive data, which is usually considered as the security keys to enhance the security of the cryptosystem, needs to be stored and transmitted and leads to low efficiency in practical applications. To address this issue, a computational ghost imaging method based on sparse reconstruction with the Barzilai-Borwein gradient projection is proposed from a new perspective of applying the compressive sensing technique in this paper. The measured intensities of the object image are collected by the means of traditional computational ghost imaging, while the security key composed of speckle patterns is compressed using compressive sensing and then transmitted in the secure channel in the proposed method. Consequently, the burden of key management such as storage and transmission can be considerably decreased. Moreover, when a significantly small part of the security key is shared in the secure channel, original information still can be authenticated without clear visualization by calculating the nonlinear correlation map between the object image and its reconstruction. The optical experiments illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method and demonstrate that it can provide an effective alternative for enriching the related research on computational ghost imaging techniques.</p>

Abstract:We introduce an information-hiding camera integrated with an electronic decoder that is jointly optimized through deep learning. This system uses a diffractive optical processor, which transforms and hides input images into ordinary-looking patterns that deceive/mislead observers. This information-hiding transformation is valid for infinitely many combinations of secret messages, transformed into ordinary-looking output images through passive light-matter interactions within the diffractive processor. By processing these output patterns, an electronic decoder network accurately reconstructs the original information hidden within the deceptive output. We demonstrated our approach by designing information-hiding diffractive cameras operating under various lighting conditions and noise levels, showing their robustness. We further extended this framework to multispectral operation, allowing the concealment and decoding of multiple images at different wavelengths, performed simultaneously. The feasibility of our framework was also validated experimentally using terahertz radiation. This optical encoder–electronic decoder-based codesign provides a high speed and energy efficient information-hiding camera, offering a powerful solution for visual information security.

Secure Optical Encryption Based on Ghost Imaging with Fractional Fourier Transform

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an optical encryption scheme based on ghost imaging with fractional Fourier transform (FrFT). In the scheme, some special FrFT speckles with designed fractional orders are generated and used to illuminate an object, even the object is unknown, and the bucket detector without spatial resolution is then adopted to detect the signal. With the four-step or the three-step phase shift method, the image of the object can only be reconstructed by the authorized user who has the key, while the eavesdropper cannot recover the image. Importantly, the two FrFT parameters are used as the key, which can dramatically reduce the number of bits of the key transferred between authorized users comparing to existing optical encryption schemes based on CGI. In addition, the proposed scheme can be generalized in broadcast way for more authorized users, where each authorized user can obtain his own encrypted image. The experiment and numerical simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed scheme. The results also show that the image cannot be achieved when the fractional order gap between the IFrFT and the FrFT is greater than 0.4, even though the 100% FrFT speckles have been eavesdropped. It provides a promising imaging way for optical encryption.

Abstract:Considering the necessity of identity authentication in most scenarios, a dual-channel (digital channel and optical channel) image encryption and authentication algorithm with computational ghost imaging (CGI) is proposed. The entire encryption process is governed by the pseudo-random sequences obtained by the 4D chaotic system and the Logistic map. During the digital channel encryption, the confusion and diffusion of the plaintext image are achieved by random scrambling and DNA computing, respectively. To alleviate the burden of key transmission and storage in the CGI encryption system, the speckle measurement matrices are constructed with the pseudo-random numbers obtained by the Logistic map. Additionally, a nonlinear encryption operation is carried out to compensate the linear vulnerability of CGI encryption. In the optical encryption channel, the authentication image is first encrypted with the CGI method, followed by the secondary encryption of the intensity values recorded by a bucket detector to produce an intermediate ciphertext. The final encryption image is generated by merging the intermediate ciphertexts from both encryption channels. It is demonstrated that the proposed optical image encryption and authentication scheme with CGI provides satisfactory encryption and decryption effects and can effectively counteract the common attacks. Moreover, the scheme holds promising application prospects due to its authentication capability.

Abstract:In this paper, an optical encryption system is proposed based on tricolor principle, Fresnel diffraction, and phase iterative algorithms. Different from the traditional encryption system, the encrypted image of this system is a color image and the plaintext of it is a gray image, which can achieve the combination of a color image and a gray image and the conversion of one image to another image. Phase masks can be generated by using the phase iterative algorithms in this paper. The six phase masks and the six diffracting distances are all essential keys in the process of decryption, which can greatly enhance the system security. Numerical simulations are shown to prove the possibility and safety of the method.

Abstract:Data protection methods like cryptography, despite being effective, inadvertently signal the presence of secret communication, thereby drawing undue attention. Here, we introduce an optical information hiding camera integrated with an electronic decoder, optimized jointly through deep learning. This information hiding-decoding system employs a diffractive optical processor as its front-end, which transforms and hides input images in the form of ordinary-looking patterns that deceive/mislead human observers. This information hiding transformation is valid for infinitely many combinations of secret messages, all of which are transformed into ordinary-looking output patterns, achieved all-optically through passive light-matter interactions within the optical processor. By processing these ordinary-looking output images, a jointly-trained electronic decoder neural network accurately reconstructs the original information hidden within the deceptive output pattern. We numerically demonstrated our approach by designing an information hiding diffractive camera along with a jointly-optimized convolutional decoder neural network. The efficacy of this system was demonstrated under various lighting conditions and noise levels, showing its robustness. We further extended this information hiding camera to multi-spectral operation, allowing the concealment and decoding of multiple images at different wavelengths, all performed simultaneously in a single feed-forward operation. The feasibility of our framework was also demonstrated experimentally using THz radiation. This optical encoder-electronic decoder-based co-design provides a novel information hiding camera interface that is both high-speed and energy-efficient, offering an intriguing solution for visual information security.

Abstract:The optical image encryption based on multichannel fractional Fourier transform (FRT) and double random phase encoding technique is proposed. Optical principles of encoding and decoding are analyzed in detail. With this method, one can encrypt different parts of input image, respectively. The system security can be improved to some extent, not only because fractional orders and random phase masks in every channel can be set with freedom, but also because the system parameters among all channels are independent. Numerical simulation results of optical image encryption based on four channel FRT and double random phase encoding are given to verify the feasibility of the method.

Abstract:In earlier research, the concept of using diffractive optics to indirectly achieve invisible visual cryptography (VC) was proposed. In this approach, the extraction process does not require complex optical implementations or additional computations. However, the system's security and the capacity still need to be improved. Correspondingly, this paper introduces a multi-image invisible VC system based on dual optical multiplexing. Under the conditions of diffraction distance multiplexing and wavelength multiplexing, the visual keys of secret images are concealed within a phase key in the Fresnel domain. This method enhances the system's security through dual optical multiplexing and ensures a certain capacity for information concealment. Optical experiments verify that the easy extraction and the high repeatability are all obtainable in the method.

Abstract:This paper proposes a novel, to the best of our knowledge, double-image hiding scheme based on the chaotic fingerprint phase masks (CFPMs) and three-step phase-shifting digital holography (PSDH). First, the two images to be hidden are encoded into a complex amplitude image, and then with the help of the CFPM located in the Fresnel transform (FrT) domain and the three-step PSDH, the complex amplitude image can be encoded into three noise-like interference holograms. Finally, the three noise-like interference holograms are hidden into the texture part of the host image by the discrete wavelet transform based fusion approach and variational image decomposition technique. This scheme can simultaneously hide two images into one host image, and the invisibility and robustness of the hiding scheme can be well balanced by embedding the secret image in the texture of the host image. Additionally, the introduction of a biometric feature increases the association of the key and the authorized user, and the parameters of the chaotic map and FrT can also provide additional security to the proposed scheme. We have verified the scheme's feasibility, security, and robustness through extensive experiments.

Abstract:This paper proposes a double encryption system based on near-field Fourier ptychography (FP). Firstly, the encryption and decryption processes of a complex-amplitude image are realized by the principle of near-field FP while improving the imaging system. Our method uses a spatial light modulator to apply a phase shift to the object in the frequency domain to control the displacement of the object in the spatial domain, avoiding systematic errors caused by mechanically moving object. The second encryption process is designed by further utilizing the characteristics of the imaging system and can recover the object and the illumination pattern at the same time, which can decrypt another image from the object and illumination pattern recovered above. Since the second encryption is harder to be detected by the attacker, it has higher concealment and security. Finally, numerical simulations verify the feasibility, security and robustness of the proposed encryption system.

Abstract:Computational imaging~(CI) has been attracting a lot of interest in recent years for its superiority over traditional imaging in various applications. In CI systems, information is generally acquired in an encoded form and subsequently decoded via processing algorithms, which is quite in line with the information transmission mode of modern communication, and leads to emerging studies from the viewpoint of information optical imaging. Currently, one of the most important issues to be theoretically studied for CI is to quantitatively evaluate the fundamental ability of information acquisition, which is essential for both objective performance assessment and efficient design of imaging system. In this paper, by incorporating the Bayesian filtering paradigm, we propose a framework for CI that enables quantitative evaluation and design of the imaging system, and demonstate it based on ghost imaging. In specific, this framework can provide a quantitative evaluation on the acquired information through Fisher information and Cramér-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB), and the intrinsic performance of the imaging system can be accessed in real-time. With simulation and experiments, the framework is validated and compared with existing linear unbiased algorithms. In particular, the image retrieval can reach the CRLB. Furthermore, information-driven adaptive design for optimizing the information acquisition procedure is also achieved. By quantitative describing and efficient designing, the proposed framework is expected to promote the practical applications of CI techniques.

Abstract:This paper proposes an optical image compression and encryption transmission based on deep learning and ghost imaging, which uses ghost imaging as a point-to-face transmission mode to reduce the influence of chaotic medium and turbulence on the communication channel, and combine with the deep learning to improve the reconstructed image resolution. In this method, first, the image is preprocessed by JPEG to obtain a compressed image, and the compressed image is transmitted as an image to be transmitted, which can improve the transmission rate; then, the ghost imaging is used for transmission, which can improve the anti-interference ability and transmission security of the transmission; finally, the problem of poor image quality after ghost-imaging transmission, using deep learning for reconstruction, which can improve the resolution of the image. In the simulation experiment, feasibility analysis, safety analysis, and robustness analysis were carried out, respectively, and the experimental results were objectively evaluated using correlation methods such as peak signal-to-noise ratio, mutual information, and histogram. The experimental results show that the proposed method can provide a feasible and secure optical communication image transmission method and realize high-resolution transmission image reconstruction, which has guiding significance for optical communication.
