Abstract:Optical hiding schemes based on visual cryptography usually hide secret information in multiple visual keys. However, the traditional visual keys are usually Mosaic patterns, which are easy to attract the attention of attackers, and limit their randomness and security. And each visual key needs a corresponding transport carrier, leading to limited hiding capacity. To solve these problems, this paper proposes an optical information hiding method based on speckle encoding and dual-multiplexing interferometry. This method uses natural speckle with high randomness to partial replace traditional visual keys, realizing the combination application of natural speckle keys and artificial visual keys. The optical properties of wavelength and diffraction distance multiplexing interference can hide multiple visual keys in a single image, which improves the hiding capacity. Simulation and optical experiments show that the proposed method has high security, large hiding capacity, imperceptibility and robustness.

Abstract:Unlike traditional information hiding techniques, the features of lossless information hiding techniques are: (1) by using the lossless embedding model, the secret information is embedded in digital media to achieve copyright protection or content authentication, and (2) after extracting the secret information, the digital media can be recovered losslessly to protect the integrity of the original digital media. These techniques therefore attract the interest of academicians and show broad application prospects in medical images and other sensitive applications. Lossless information hiding algorithms for images can be classified into three categories, i.e., the spatial domain–based, the transform domain–based, and the compressed domain–based schemes. This chapter focuses on the spatial domain schemes. First we provide an overview of the spatial domain–based schemes. Then we discuss some typical spatial domain lossless information hiding methods, which are classified into five categories, i.e., the modulo addition–based schemes, difference expansion–based schemes, histogram modification–based schemes, lossless compression–based schemes, and reversible secret sharing–based schemes.

Abstract:We introduce an information-hiding camera integrated with an electronic decoder that is jointly optimized through deep learning. This system uses a diffractive optical processor, which transforms and hides input images into ordinary-looking patterns that deceive/mislead observers. This information-hiding transformation is valid for infinitely many combinations of secret messages, transformed into ordinary-looking output images through passive light-matter interactions within the diffractive processor. By processing these output patterns, an electronic decoder network accurately reconstructs the original information hidden within the deceptive output. We demonstrated our approach by designing information-hiding diffractive cameras operating under various lighting conditions and noise levels, showing their robustness. We further extended this framework to multispectral operation, allowing the concealment and decoding of multiple images at different wavelengths, performed simultaneously. The feasibility of our framework was also validated experimentally using terahertz radiation. This optical encoder–electronic decoder-based codesign provides a high speed and energy efficient information-hiding camera, offering a powerful solution for visual information security.

Abstract:This paper proposes a scheme to hide some confidential data in image size invariant visual cryptography. The data hiding processing is synchronized with the secret image encryption. The basic property of the conventional visual cryptography is well maintained in our scheme. That is, the secret information can be decrypted by stacking the two transparencies. Besides, the hidden data can be accurately retrieved and the secret image can be losslessly reconstructed, both with XOR operations. Experimental results show our scheme is simple and effective.

Abstract:Data protection methods like cryptography, despite being effective, inadvertently signal the presence of secret communication, thereby drawing undue attention. Here, we introduce an optical information hiding camera integrated with an electronic decoder, optimized jointly through deep learning. This information hiding-decoding system employs a diffractive optical processor as its front-end, which transforms and hides input images in the form of ordinary-looking patterns that deceive/mislead human observers. This information hiding transformation is valid for infinitely many combinations of secret messages, all of which are transformed into ordinary-looking output patterns, achieved all-optically through passive light-matter interactions within the optical processor. By processing these ordinary-looking output images, a jointly-trained electronic decoder neural network accurately reconstructs the original information hidden within the deceptive output pattern. We numerically demonstrated our approach by designing an information hiding diffractive camera along with a jointly-optimized convolutional decoder neural network. The efficacy of this system was demonstrated under various lighting conditions and noise levels, showing its robustness. We further extended this information hiding camera to multi-spectral operation, allowing the concealment and decoding of multiple images at different wavelengths, all performed simultaneously in a single feed-forward operation. The feasibility of our framework was also demonstrated experimentally using THz radiation. This optical encoder-electronic decoder-based co-design provides a novel information hiding camera interface that is both high-speed and energy-efficient, offering an intriguing solution for visual information security.

Abstract:As we know, lossless information hiding algorithms for images can be classified into three categories, i.e., the spatial domain–based, transform domain–based, and compressed domain–based schemes. The previous chapter focused on the spatial domain schemes; this chapter turns to transform domain–based schemes. We first introduce some related concepts and requirements for lossless information hiding. Then we give a brief overview of transform domain–based information hiding. Next we discuss some typical transform domain–based lossless information hiding methods, which are classified into two categories, i.e., integer discrete cosine transform (DCT)–based schemes and integer discrete wavelet transform (DWT)–based schemes. With regard to integer DCT-based schemes, we introduce three schemes, i.e., the companding technique–based scheme, the histogram modification–based scheme, and the adaptive coefficient modification–based scheme. With regard to integer DWT-based schemes, we introduce three schemes, i.e., the value expansion–based scheme, the histogram shift–based scheme, and the coefficient magnitude prediction–based scheme. All these schemes are compared with the typical spatial domain–based schemes.

Abstract:This paper presents an information hiding method in the BTC-compressed domain based on histogram modification and visual cryptography. By using the visual cryptography algorithm, the secret image is divided into several transparencies, which are called shared images. Then, one shared image is embedded into the BTC-compressed data through histogram modification which is a reversible information hiding algorithm. When there is any need to recover the secret image, the shared image which formerly embedded into the BTC-compressed data can be extracted. Stacking the embedded shared image and the shared image we have already known, the secret image can be recovered. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method, and the tampering location ability is quite good.
Reversible Information Hiding Based On Histogram Shifting For Jpeg2000 Images

Abstract:As an important branch of information security, information hiding in images has been extensively studied in recent years. However, most schemes will introduce irreversible distortion to the original image. It is unallowable in sonic special applications such as legal imaging and medical imaging. So reversible information hiding deserves us to study. In addition, most existing information hiding schemes are for BMP images and JPEG images. There are few related schemes for JPEG2000 images. So it is very necessary for us to study reversible information hiding for JPEG2000 images. In this paper, we propose a reversible information hiding scheme for JPEG2000 compressed images. In the proposed scheme, high frequency subbands of the cover image are divided into blocks. In each block, the histogram generated by the quantized wavelet coefficients of the block is shifted to create gaps for embedding data. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme has satisfactory performance. Compared with other schemes, the proposed scheme has higher embedding capacity and better visual quality of the stego image.

Abstract:In earlier research, the concept of using diffractive optics to indirectly achieve invisible visual cryptography (VC) was proposed. In this approach, the extraction process does not require complex optical implementations or additional computations. However, the system's security and the capacity still need to be improved. Correspondingly, this paper introduces a multi-image invisible VC system based on dual optical multiplexing. Under the conditions of diffraction distance multiplexing and wavelength multiplexing, the visual keys of secret images are concealed within a phase key in the Fresnel domain. This method enhances the system's security through dual optical multiplexing and ensures a certain capacity for information concealment. Optical experiments verify that the easy extraction and the high repeatability are all obtainable in the method.

Abstract:This paper proposes a scheme to hide multiple watermarks in transparencies of visual cryptography. On one hand, the main properties of the traditional visual cryptography are still maintained. On the other hand, not only the encrypted image can be visible when stacking the transparencies, but also two extra watermarks can be extracted with simple computations. The scheme can be applied to hide some affiliated information of the secret image. Experimental results demonstrate the scheme is effective and practical.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a wavelength multiplexing image hiding system based on color invisible visual cryptography (CIVC). The image is divided into red, green, and blue channels. Each channel turns into several meaningful share images, different from the random, meaningless share images in visual cryptography (VC), and these are concealed within phase keys. The acquired single-channel share images, once synthesized into a color image and subjected to incoherent superposition, enable the extraction of the secret color image. Abstract:With the development of image halftoning techniques and computer networks, a large quantity of digital halftone images are produced and transmitted in the Internet. Meanwhile, hiding data in images becomes a powerful approach for covert communications, copyright protection, owner announcement, content authentication, traitor tracing, etc. This chapter proposes two look-up table based methods to hide data in the cover media of halftone images. Both of them belong to lossless data hiding techniques, i.e., not only the secret data but also the original cover image can be accurately recovered in data extraction when the stego image is intact. Besides, an application example of the proposed method in lossless content authentication is illustrated. Furthermore, a data capacity enhancement strategy is introduced based on a statistical property of error diffused halftone image micro structure.

Abstract:Based on joint transform correlator (JTC) architecture and holographic techniques, a new method for image hiding is presented. A hidden image encrypted by JTC architecture is embedded in the Fourier hologram of the host image. Inverse Fourier transform can be used to obtain the watermarked image, and JTC architecture is used to decode the hidden image from the watermarked hologram. Unlike other watermarking techniques, by prechoosing information, the noise added to the recovered hidden image by the host can be reduced. Unlike other watermarking systems based on double random-phase encoding, no conjugate key is used to recover the hidden image. Theoretical analyses have shown the system's feasibility. Computer simulations are presented to verify the system's validity and efficiency. Numerical simulations also show that the proposed system is robust enough to resist attacks, such as occlusion, noise, and filtering.

An algorithm based on HVS (Human Visual System) is proposed in this paper. We first decide the embedding region and embedding strength of secret image based on edge and texture information. Then, a pair of invert images is chosen as the cover images, and the stego images are constructed by modifying the pixels of the cover images through the proposed criterion. Abstract:We propose a method to encrypt two covert images into an overt image based on phase-truncated Fourier transforms and phase retrieval. In this method, the two original images are self-encoded in the manner that one of the two images is directly separated into two phase masks (PMs) and used as keys for encryption, and then multiplied by a PM which is generated by using phase retrieval algorithm. At last, the whole encryption process is completed by a Fourier transform operation. In the decryption process, the image without a separation and the two PMs used as keys for encryption are all treated as encoded data. The cryptosystem is asymmetric which means the keys for encryption are different from those for decryption. Numerical simulations are presented to show the viability and good performance of the proposed method.

Abstract:<p>Since the ptychographic encoding can transform the secret information into series of diffractive patterns optically, it achieves the high security for information hiding. However, traditional ptychographic encoding requires the mechanical movements of the illuminated probe or the hidden object, which accumulates the errors greatly reducing the decoding quality. The errors have been reduced with the way of the single-shot ptychographic encoding, while its reliability and the decoding quality are still unideal. To solve these problems, we propose a non-mechanical ptychography to hide optical information for the first time. The core of this method includes both the non-mechanical ptychographic encoding (NPE) via a spatial light modulator and the decoding algorithm constrained with the phase-only quick respond code (PQR). NPE completely eliminates the errors arising from the ptychographic scanning, and the PQR-constrained decoding algorithm enables the high-quality information extracted from even only a few embedded diffractive patterns. The optical experiments verify that the method can achieve satisfactory robustness performance with the high repeatability, real-time encoding speed and the excellent information fidelity.</p>
