Abstract:The problem of global asymptotic stability analysis and controller synthesis for a class of discrete linear time-delay systems with state saturation nonlinearities is investigated. With the introduction of a free matrix whose infinity norm is less than or equal to 1, the state of discrete linear time-delay systems with state saturation is bounded by a convex hull, which makes it feasible to apply a suitable Lyapunov functional to obtain a sufficient condition for global asymptotic stability. It is also shown that this condition can be extended to controller synthesis and discrete time-delay systems with partial state saturation. The obtained results are expressed in terms of matrix inequalities that can be solved by the presented iterative linear matrix inequality approach. The effectiveness of these results is demonstrated by some numerical examples.

Abstract:This paper proposes a development method to deal with the stability problems for a kind of complex large-scale systems with hybrid models. These hybrid large-scale systems are composed of considerable interconnected nonlinear subsystems, some of which are described by differential equations and others by Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models. Novel techniques to cope with the nonlinear interconnection between subsystems are developed. A set of LMI-based conditions are derived to judge the stability of the whole system by checking the stability of the subsystems in parallel, which greatly speeds up the stability analysis process. And the computational complexity is greatly reduced. A numerical example is given to illustrate its effectiveness

Abstract:This paper concerns the stability analysis problem of discrete linear systems with state saturation using a saturation-dependent Lyapunov functional. We introduce a free matrix characterized by the sum of the absolute value of each elements for each row less than 1, which makes the state with saturation constraint reside in a convex polyhedron. A saturation-dependent Lyapunov functional is then designed to obtain a sufficient condition for such systems to be globally asymptotically stable. Based on this stability criterion, the state feedback control law synthesis problem is also studied. The obtained results are formulated in terms of bilinear matrix inequalities that can be solved by the presented iterative linear matrix inequality algorithm. Two numerical examples are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:With the linear matrix inequalities (LMI) method, this paper investigates the stability of a class of hybrid systems with uncertain nonlinear subsystems. Based on single Lyapunov function, the sufficient conditions of this system for global asymptotic stability are proposed. Furthermore, using the method of piecewise quadratic Lyapunov function, the sufficient conditions of this system for local asymptotic stability are derived. By applying the result, the sufficient conditions of stability can be formulated as a convex problem in terms of linear matrix inequalities, which can be solved by relevant software.

Abstract:The use of the sum of squares decomposition and semidefinite programming have, provided an efficient methodology for analysis of polynomial nonlinear systems based on Lyapunov function. This paper considers the stability analysis of polynomial nonlinear systems with affine parametric uncertainties. Both time jump and bounded time-varying rate cases for the uncertain parameters are considered. An iterative algorithm is proposed to design controllers to stabilize the systems. The rate of convergence for the closed loop systems is also estimated to optimize the control performance during the control synthesis procedure, and additional constraint is given to avoid great value control gains.

Abstract:A class of singular systems with symmetric interconnected and identical structure was investigated.First,the original singular symmetric composite systems were transformed to two lower-order modified subsystems via system transformation;Then it was found that the characteristics (such as stability,controllability,observability,the existence of fixed modes,decentralized normalization,the solution to the Lyapunov equation and Riccati equation) of this kind of large-scale systems can be determined by the corresponding properties of the two lower-order modified subsystems.

Abstract:A symplectic numerical approach to the stability analysis of nonlinear parametric excited systems with multi-degree-of-freedom is developed and the stability of a nonlinear vibration system depends on the dynamic behavior of its perturbation. The nonlinear parameter-varying differential equations for the perturbation motion are expressed in the form of Hamiltonian equations with time-varying Hamiltonian, and are converted further into the classical Hamiltonian equations with extended time-invariant Hamiltonian by augmenting the state variables. The solution to the augmented Hamiltonian equations has the symplectic structure in terms of the symplectic transformation. Then the difference equations of the symplectic Runge-Kutta algorithm with a sufficient condition are constructed, which is proved to preserve the intrinsic symplectic structure of the original solution. In particular, the symplectic Gauss-Runge-Kutta algorithm with stage 2 and order 4 is proposed and applied to the stability analysis of a nonlinear system. Unstable regions based on the nonlinear periodic-parameter perturbation equation are obtained by using the symplectic Gauss-Runge-Kutta algorithm, analytical solution method and non-symplectic conventional Runge-Kutta algorithm to verify the higher accuracy of the proposed algorithm. Unstable regions based on the nonlinear perturbation are given to illustrate the improvement over those based on the linear perturbation. The developed symplectic approach to the stability analysis can preserve the symplectic structure of the original system and is applicable to nonlinear parametric excited systems with multi-degree-of-freedom.

Abstract:This paper deals with the problem of computing Lyapunov functions for asymptotic stability analysis of autonomous polynomial systems of differential equations. We propose a new semi-algebraic approach bymaking advantage of the local property of the Lyapunov function as well as its derivative. This is done by first constructing a semi-algebraic system and then solving this semi-algebraic system in an adaptive way. Experiment results show that our semi-algebraic approach is more efficient in practice, especially for low-order systems. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:This paper studies the stability and control problem of linear systems with non-symmetrical input saturation. A system with non-symmetrical input saturation is transformed into a system with switching symmetrical input saturation. A switching controller is designed based on a parametric algebra Riccati equation, dwell time and the equivalent switched system. Exponential stability is guaranteed with the proposed switching controller. The main advantages of the proposed method lie in reducing the conservatism caused by directly using symmetrical input saturation control and increasing the state convergent speed. The designed controller can be computed easily by solving the Riccati equation. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper studies the linearization of a similar large-scale nonlinear control system using differential geometry methods. The large-scale nonlinear control system consists of N n-dimensional subsystems which have similar characteristic and relation. It is shown that the large-scale nonlinear control system is linearizable at the neighbour of one point if and only if each subsystem has m output functions and the sum of the corresponding characteristic index is equal to the dimension of the subspace n and the index matrix has rank m.

The equivalence method of Lyapunov decomposition was used and the analysis results for linear time-variant isolated control subsystems without time-delay were applied to this paper. Abstract:Using the integral quadratic constraints (IQC's) methods,the L2-stability for a class of nonlinear feedback system is studied in this paper.Thus some sufficient and necessary conditions are given.These results are suitable for both time-invariant and time-varying systems.As an application,the general time-varying Lur'e problem is studied too.Then the time-varying circle criterion in the SISO case is given.At the same time,in the MIMO case,a stability criterion is given,which doesn't need the decoupling conditions.

Abstract:This paper tackles the symmetries of control systems. Main attention has been focused on the linear symmetry of affine nonlinear systems. Abstract:This paper tackles linear symmetries of control systems. Precisely, the symmetry of affine nonlinear systems under the action of a sub-group of general linear group GL(n, R). First of all, the structure of state space (briefly, ss) symmetry group and its Lie algebra for a given system is investigated. Secondly, the structure of systems, which are ss-symmetric under rotations, is revealed. Thirdly, a complete classification of ss-symmetric planar systems is presented. It is shown that for planar systems there are only four classes of systems which are ss-symmetric with respect to four linear groups. Fourthly, a set of algebraic equations are presented, whose solutions provide the Lie algebra of the largest connected ss-symmetry group. Finally, some controllability properties of systems with ss-symmetry group are studied. Abstract:In this work, it is demonstrated that the usual power system dynamic model exhibits a feedforward-feedback control structure. The distinct properties of the feedforward and feedback subsystems are identified and studied using respective nonlinear system tools. The stability of the closed-loop system is investigated using a small gain argument from input-to-state stability theory. Test results are provided to further complement the theoretical findings. The introduced methodology also shed light on the dynamics study on other interconnected nonlinear systems.

Abstract:The classical stability margin analysis based on the linearized model is widely used in practice even in nonlinear systems. Although linear analysis techniques are relatively standard and have simple implementation structures, they are prone to misbehavior and failure when the system is performing an off-nominal operation. To avoid the drawbacks and exploit the advantages of linear analysis methods and frequency-domain stability margin analysis while tackling system nonlinearity, a state-compensation-linearization-based stability margin analysis method is studied in the paper. Based on the state-compensation-linearization-based stabilizing control, the definition and measurement of the stability margin are given. The l2 gain margin and l2 time-delay margin for the closed-loop nonlinear system with state-compensation-linearization-based stabilizing control are defined and derived approximatively by the small-gain theorem in theory. The stability margin measurement can be carried out by the frequency-sweep method in practice. The proposed method is a data-driven method for obtaining the stability margin of nonlinear systems, which is practical and can be applied to practical systems directly. Finally, three numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:A linear feedback control scheme to globally stabilize a class of partially linear composite systems is proposed from the point view of homogeneity. Assume that the global stability of the zero dynamics of the nonlinear subsystem can be tested by using a homogeneous Lyapunov function. It is shown that the stabilization of the linear controllable subsystem from its own states equals to the stabilization of the whole systems if the nonlinearities satisfy a homogeneous inequality condition. Then we assume that the states are not measurable and also extend the method developed for state-feedback control to the output-feedback case.
