Abstract:Sub-module fault types of modular multilevel converters(MMCs) are explained,including insulated gate bipolar translator(IGBT) module fault,fault of capacitor in DC link and control signal.Advantages and disadvantages of three redundancy fault-tolerated schemes of sub-module are analyzed.One scheme with sub-modules in hot standby is adopted,which has small impact on MMC.The drawback of this scheme is DC currents fluctuation presenting when MMC operates under unsymmetrical condition.Thus,based on derived basic math model of MMC under redundancy operation condition and yielded arm-energy math expressions,a redundancy fault-tolerated control strategy based on energy balance of arms is proposed to suppress the fluctuation of DC currents.A 61 voltage-level MMC simulation model is set up in PSCAD/EMTDC.Simulation results verify the validation of the proposed redundancy fault-tolerated control strategy.

Abstract:Software development based on modular method can improve the reuse rate of the code, but the possibility increases that the same faults occur in each system. In order to improve the reliability of software, Fault-tolerant is applied to the development of test and control system software based on modular method. According to the characteristic of these systems, the method of fault-avoiding and fault-tolerant is discussed from four aspects: data, operation, hardware and software. The application in the software of the driving-axle synthesis performance test bed that we developed indicates that it can raise the reuse rate of the code, reduce the development period, and also improve the reliability of the software obviously.

Abstract:N-modular redundancy are widely used in the ultra-reliable real-time fault-tolerant systems. Previous NMR systems often relay on special hardware and special operating systems, and the relationship between the critical tasks and operating system is tight, so it's difficult to system's porting, updating and maintenance. In this paper, we present a new task model for COTS-based NMR systems. By taking full advantage of COTS operating system's kernel function, this model not only satisfies the real-time requirement, but also masks the complexity of NMR system, and gets rid of the defect of previous systems. We also analyzed the real time performance of the tasks that adopt this new model.
Modular Design Method for Control of Reconfigurable Machine Tools

Abstract:A design method for constructing a hierarchical structure controller with control modules was proposed for synchronously reconfiguring the control and machine of reconfigurable machine tool(RMT). In this method,the entire controller and its individual control module at every level acted as a set consisting of a finite state machine (FSM) with input output event set pairs. Each pair of input output event set was defined as a port of the control module, and the input event set on a given port formed the port-acceptable language. Thus, when the mechanical modules are assembled, the control modules can be connected using port language, which constructs the higher control module until the entire controller is connected. Thereby, the control and machine reconfiguration of RMTs occurs synchronously. Based on the introduction of FSM expression for discrete event systems, the definitions of control module with FSM, module combination, as well as the design and construction theory of modular controller was given. Using this theory, once the control modules are properly designed and connected, the resulting controller is guaranteed to be controllable.

Abstract:Utilizing redundant submodules is a well-known strategy to improve the reliability and fault-tolerant capability of the modular multilevel converter (MMC). Redundancy-based fault-tolerant strategy makes it possible to restore the full performance of the converter in the postfault condition. The main drawback of this strategy is the high cost. In this configuration, each redundant submodule (RSM) can only be utilized in a specific arm and it cannot be used in other arms. This limitation leads to inefficient utilization of the RSMs in conventional MMC. This article proposes a shared redundancy strategy which allows RSMs to be used either in upper or lower arms. The derived reliability models in various case studies illustrate that the proposed strategy significantly improves the reliability and useful lifetime of MMC. To investigate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, simulation and experimental results are provided.

Abstract:The standby-state switching time impacts system performance of quadruple modular redundancy structures. The paper describes a parallel structure for a quadruple modular redundancy system, and analyzes the reliability and security. The high-reliability computing platform design uses PowerPC serial processors, two sets of state evaluations based on field programmable gate array (FPGA) in a dual-core system and embedded software-core Nios Ⅱ. The use of competitive output at the output module gives seamless switching. Tests show that the entire system provides excellent real-time reliability for use in all kinds of systems demanding reliability and safety.

Abstract:This paper designs a safety computer system based on 2 out of 3 redundant structure.The system consists of CPU modules,communi-cation modules and I/O modules.For the data communications between modules the triple modular CPU bus with synchronizing and voting functions,redundant Controller Area Network(CAN) bus and redundant Ethernet are applied.The 2 out of 3 hardware voter by using dynamic plus is implemented in the system outputs.Test result shows that the implemented prototype of 2 out of 3 safety computer system meet the expected goal design.

Abstract:Hazard radiation can lead the system fault therefore Fault Tolerance is required. Fault Tolerant is a system, which is designed to keep operations running, despite the degradation in the specific module is happening. Many fault tolerances have been developed to handle the problem, to find the most robust and efficient in the possible technology. This paper will present the Five Modular Redundancy (FMR) with Mitigation Technique to Recover the Error Module. With Dynamic Partial Reconfiguration technology that have already available today, such fault tolerance technique can be implemented successfully. The project showed the robustness of the system is increased and module which is error can be recovered immediately.

Abstract:Transient fault is a critical concern in the reliability of microprocessor system. The software fault tolerance is more flexible and lower in cost than the hardware fault tolerance. And also, as architectural trends point toward multicore designs, there is substantial interest in adapting parallel and redundancy hardware resources for transient fault tolerance. The paper proposes a process-level fault tolerance technique, a software-centric approach, which efficiently schedules and synchronizes redundancy processes with ccNUMA processors redundancy. So it can improve efficiency of redundancy processes running and reduce time and space overhead. The paper focuses on the researching of redundancy processes error detection and handling method. A real prototype is implemented that is designed to be transparent to the application. The test results show that the system can timely detect soft errors of CPU and memory that cause the redundancy processes exception, and meanwhile ensure that the services of the application are uninterrupted and delayed shortly.

Abstract:A new reconfigurable hardware module of NoC is designed in this paper ,which is based on MS simulater , according to the core level redundang .The main characteristic of the module is that each of the Network Interfaces (NI) physically connects to four routers ,and each of the routers physically connects to four network interfaces to build cross interconnection network structure .The structure supports to reconstruct communication network ,and the topological structure remains as the original network structure in dynamic process .The proposed architecture is implemented with C+ + at System Level ,and MPI parallel program is used to refactor the network for validation which ensures the correctness of the proposed module functions finally .
Modular Redundancy Analysis of HVDC Control and Protection

Abstract:The dual and triple modular redundancy concept and implementation principle in HVDC control and protection system are presented in detail. The protections whose single component fault may lead to HVDC blocked are listed. For the circumstances that the protection is dual modular redundancy,but the sensor is singly configured,the solutions of ABB and NARI in order to prevent failures caused by single component fault are compared. Three outage accidents caused by measuring device or sensor not fully dual modular redundancy are analyzed. The problems and solutions of triple modular redundancy in protection system of Gaoling converter station are introduced. The disposal advice is given to the existing deficiencies about dual modular redundancy in current HVDC projects. When a system is in maintenance,abnormalities of the other system may lead to HVDC outage. A recommended fundamental solution is the signal contacts,control and protection are all triple modular redundancy. When using the take two logic protection,the equipments with three or more channels should be chosen to avoid HVDC outages caused by the individual component or board failure.

Abstract:The hybrid modular multilevel converter (HMMC), consisting of half-bridge and full-bridge submodules (SMs), has become a competitive topology due to the DC fault ride-through capability (FRTC). Redundancy schemes need to be employed to improve the reliability, including fixed-level and voltage-sharing active schemes, as well as passive scheme. However, different schemes affect reliability differently, which entails specific models. The contributions of this paper involve that analytical reliability models of HMMCs are proposed with considerations of voltage stress in active scheme, as well as imperfect bypass switch in passive scheme, and the comparison of different schemes is conducted to help the redundancy design. The reliability of HMMCs is divided into basic and extra components by the requirement of FRTC, which are modeled through the Markov chain and iteration method. A case study is conducted to validate the feasibility and accuracy of the proposed models, and the reliability analysis is presented, together with comparisons of different redundancy schemes. The results illustrate that reliability improvements of both fixed-level mode and passive scheme are prone to suffer saturation effect with the increase of redundant half-bridge SMs, which may even cause reliability decline in voltage-sharing mode.

Abstract:Any submodule of the MMC in the flexible control device in failure will affect the normal operation of the system, thus affecting its reliability. Configuring redundant submodules for the MMC may significantly improve the reliability, but the mutual restriction of the reliability and economy is the key problem in the optimization of the redundant submodules’ number. In this article, the reliability and economy model of the MMC with redundant submodules are established, and the optimization function is established. The NSGAII optimization function are used to realize the optimization respectively. It can significantly improve the economy while meeting the system reliability. It provides ideas for the number allocation of the MMC redundant submodules in the actual MMC-HVDC project.

Abstract:Hardware Trojans have become a significant threat to computing reliability and data security in reconfigurable hardware. One of the most effective techniques of run-time detection and recovery is based on Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) mechanism; however, this mechanism causes a large resource overhead because the protected circuit needs to be totally duplicated twice for detection stage and decision stage. This paper proposes a novel methodology called Optimal Partitioning Triple Modular Redundancy (OPTMR) that optimizes the Data Flow Graph (DFG) partitioning to reduce the total overhead of TMR. The mathematical relationship between DFG partitioning and total overhead is discussed and the principle of DFG node division is presented. The efficiency and effectiveness of OPTMR is verified through simulation on an actual Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) device.

Abstract:The advantages and the flexibility introduced into the hardware implementation by partial dynamic reconfiguration have rapidly changed the design flow of embedded systems. Configuration management is an important issue in operating system for dynamically reconfigurable system-on-chip. Reconfiguration overhead affects the performance of reconfigurable system. This paper presents a hardware implemented efficient configuration management unit. Wet define our operating system framework based on unified multitask programming model for reconfigurable system-on-chip at first. Then the detailed design and implementation of the configuration management unit are given. Finally a use case is presented, which shows the efficiency of the configuration.

Abstract:A triple module redundant turboset emergent trip system (ETS) based on triple modular redundancy fault-tolerance technology is discussed in this paper, which is used for safety protection of large steam turbine. The system consists of input modules, main controllers, bus controllers and output modules, in which the 2-out-of-3 (2oo3) vote mechanism is adopted to enhance the reliability and safety of system. In the mean time, the communication strategy among different function modules based on control right (CR) is illustrated in detail. It is attested that the asynchronism of input data on three buses in one control right rotate cycle has no influence on the system vote results. The system running flow is given through analyzing the system data flow. The field running proves the system reliability.

Abstract:In order to analyze the reliability of redundancy architecture for flight control computer, this paper gives the analytical study on the reliability based on the Homogeneous Markov Process in “Triplex Channels & Single Module”and “Double Channels & Double Modules.”The paper analyzes the effect of fault rate and fault coverage rate on system reliabilities and MTTFs (mean time to failures). The index of fault tolerant capability is proposed. The analyzing results show that, for different redundancy architectures, the fault coverage rate or the branch fault rate have different effects on the reliability. Especially, the influence of the branch fault rate is more significant. In addition, the fault tolerant capability of the redundant system to multiple faults is determined by the system architecture scheme and the fault coverage rate. The results show that the method proposed in this paper can analyze reliability of redundancy architecture effectively.
