Abstract:LD pumped lasers have broad applications in optical storage and optical communication etc. For the first time in the world, we have developed LD pumped miniature LNYAB self-frequency-doubling laser without any coupling optics. It consisted only of a LD and a piece of LNYAB crystal and they are fixed in a LD case. The threshold pumping power, 531 nm green laser output power are 9.5 mW and 5.2 mW respectively with optical-to-optical efficiency of 2.8% at TEM 00 mode. These lasers are convenient to use and easy to fabricate. We have also found that micro-disturb can increase the output power of frequency doubled lasers. The experiments were conducted with external cavity laser. A F-P etalon was inserted in the resonant cavity. The disturb was introduced by moving the elements of the lasers. When the output coupler, the laser crystal and/or the etalon were moved simultaneous or respectively, the output power was obviously changed. Measurements show that the disturb does not change the threshold pump power and increases slightly the output of both fundamental laser and the doubled laser when the outputs are relatively smaller, and increases strongly the doubled laser output power and decreases slightly the fundamental laser output power when the outputs are relatively larger. There is a minimum of the micro-disturb that can increase the output power. In our experiments the minimum is about 5 mm/s. When the speed of the moving elements is smaller than the minimum, the laser output power is not increased by the micro-disturb. The effect increasing output power is stronger when the moving laser crystal is at the center of the laser cavity than it is at the ends of the cavity. The moving etalon in the cavity is more effective than the moving end mirrors to increase the output power. The output power of doubled laser can be increased by a half under the effect of the micro-disturb. This phenomenon was explained with laser theory and can be used to develop a new kind of frequency-doubling-lasers. The paper reports the experimental setup and the newest results.
