Abstract:In this paper, the Hirota bilinear method is applied to investigate the exact solutions of the (3+1)-dimensional Jimbo-Miwa (JM) equation, including solitons, breathers and lumps, which satisfy specific Wronskian conditions. Their dynamic behaviors and the effects of free parameters on the propagation direction and velocity are analyzed through three-dimensional images and the corresponding contour plots. Especially, based on the 2Mth-order Wronskian determinant solutions, the determinant expression of arbitrary Mth-order lump solutions is constructed by employing elementary transformation and long wave limit. The experimental results show that the interaction between multiple lumps is a completely elastic collision. These results may be helpful to understand the propagation processes of nonlinear waves in some nonlinear physical systems, such as fluid mechanics, nonlinear optics and so on.

Abstract:To certain nonlinear evolution equations, the tanh method has been generalized for constructing not only solitary-wave but also soliton-like solutions. In this paper, no loss of conciseness, we further extend the generalized tanh method with computerized symbolic computation to a pair of generalized Hamiltonian equations. A new family of soliton-like analytical solutions is obtained, of which the solitary waves and previously-claimed soliton-like solutions are shown to be the special cases.

Abstract:In this paper, a new algebraic method with symbolic computation is presented to uniformly construct a series of exact solutions for general nonlinear equations. Compared with most existing tanh methods, the proposed method not only gives new and more general solutions, but also provides a guideline to classify the various types of the solutions according to the values of some parameters. For illustration, we apply the proposed method to solve a new generalized Hirota–Satsuma coupled system and explicitly construct a series of exact solutions which include the soliton solutions and elliptic doubly periodic solutions as special cases. In addition, the links among our proposed method, the tanh method and the extended method are also clarified generally.

Abstract:Based on the Hirota bilinear method and Wronskian technique, two different classes of sufficient conditions consisting of linear partial differential equations system are presented, which guarantee that the Wronskian determinant is a solution to the corresponding Hirota bilinear equation of a (3+1)-dimensional generalized shallow water equation. Our results show that the nonlinear equation possesses rich and diverse exact solutions such as rational solutions, solitons, negatons, and positons.

Abstract:By a simple transformation, we reduce the (2+1)-dimensional modified dispersive water-wave system to a simple nonlinear partial differential equation. In order to solve this equation by generalized tanh-function method, we only need to solve a simple system of first-order ordinary differential equations, and by doing so we can obtain many new soliton-like solutions which include the solutions obtained by using the conventional tanh-function method.

Abstract:Under investigation in this article is a (2+1)-dimensional generalised variable-coefficient shallow water wave equation, which describes the interaction of the Riemann wave propagating along the y axis with a long-wave propagating along the x axis in a fluid, where x and y are the scaled space coordinates. Bilinear forms, Backlund transformation, Lax pair, and infinitely many conservation law are derived based on the binary Bell polynomials. Multi-soliton solutions are constructed via the Hirota method. Propagation and interaction of the solitons are illustrated graphically: (i) variable coefficients affect the shape of the multi-soliton interaction in the scaled space and time coordinates. (ii) Positions of the solitons depend on the sign of wave numbers after each interaction. (iii) Interaction of the solitons is elastic, i.e. the amplitude, velocity, and shape of each soliton remain invariant after each interaction except for a phase shift.

On the other hand, the class of the breaking soliton equations, which the self-dual Yang-Mills equation is found to belong to, is of current interest. Abstract:Under investigation in this paper is a ((3 + 1))-dimensional variable-coefficient generalized shallow water wave equation. Bilinear forms, Backlund transformation and Lax pair are obtained based on the Bell polynomials and symbolic computation. One-, two- and three-soliton solutions are derived via the Hirota method. One-periodic wave solutions are obtained via the Hirota–Riemann method. Discussions indicate that the one-periodic wave solutions approach to the one-soliton solutions when (varTheta rightarrow 0). Propagation and interaction of the soliton solutions have been discussed graphically. We find that not the soliton amplitudes, but the velocities are related to the variable coefficients (delta _{1}(t)) and (delta _{2}(t)). Phase shifts of the two-soliton solutions are the only differences to the superposition of two one-soliton solutions, so the amplitudes of the two-soliton solutions are equal to the sum of the corresponding two one-soliton solutions.

Abstract:Based on computerized symbolic computation, a generalized hyperbolic-function method and its algorithm are proposed for the nonlinear equations of mathematical physics. More powerful than the typical tanh methods, our algorithm could be widely applicable, including (a) the non-traveling solitonic features, (b) the multi-hyperbolic functions, and (c) the coefficient functions. Sample equations with physical interests are demonstrated. New solitonic solutions are presented.

Abstract:A generalized tanh method for finding multiple travelling wave solutions of nonlinear evolution equations (NLEEs) is proposed and implemented in a computer algebraic system. The key idea of this method is to take full advantages of a Riccati equation involving a parameter and use its solutions to replace the tanh-function in the tanh method. It is quite interesting that the sign of the parameter can be used to exactly judge the numbers and types of such travelling wave solutions. In this way we can successfully recover the previously known solitary wave solutions that had been found by the tanh method. More importantly, for some equations. with no extra effect we also pick up other new and more general types of solutions at the same time. In addition, we further extend the generalized tanh method to some special types of equations, such as complex coupled MKdV equation, coupled Schrodinger-Boussinesq equation and generalized Fisher equation. These equations have not tanh-polynomial solutions and cannot be dealt with directly by tanh method.

Abstract:Based on the Pfaffian derivative formula and Hirota bilinear method, the Pfaffian solutions to (3+1)-dimensional Jimbo–Miwa equation are obtained under a set of linear partial differential condition. Moreover, we extend the linear partial differential condition and proved that (3+1)-dimensional Jimbo–Miwa equation has extended Pfaffian solutions. As examples, special exact two-soliton solution and three-soliton solution are computed and plotted. Our results show that (3+1)-dimensional Jimbo–Miwa equation has Pfaffian solutions like BKP equation.

Abstract:In this paper, based on the Hirota bilinear form and a ”rational-cosh-cos” type test function, we will study new interaction solutions among the lump waves, kinky waves and periodic waves for the (3+1)-dimensional Jimbo–Miwa equation. We analyze the dynamic behaviors of the constructed solutions in four special cases in detail. And the dynamic characteristics of the obtained solutions are illustrated by some interesting figures with the help of Maple.
