Abstract:Based on computerized symbolic computation, a generalized hyperbolic-function method and its algorithm are proposed for the nonlinear equations of mathematical physics. More powerful than the typical tanh methods, our algorithm could be widely applicable, including (a) the non-traveling solitonic features, (b) the multi-hyperbolic functions, and (c) the coefficient functions. Sample equations with physical interests are demonstrated. New solitonic solutions are presented.

Abstract:To certain nonlinear evolution equations, the tanh method has been generalized for constructing not only solitary-wave but also soliton-like solutions. In this paper, no loss of conciseness, we further extend the generalized tanh method with computerized symbolic computation to a pair of generalized Hamiltonian equations. A new family of soliton-like analytical solutions is obtained, of which the solitary waves and previously-claimed soliton-like solutions are shown to be the special cases.

Abstract:There is an open question as to whether or not the recently-proposed tanh method can be modified in order to proceed beyond the traveling or solitary wave solutions for nonlinear evolution equations. On the other hand, the class of the breaking soliton equations, which the self-dual Yang-Mills equation is found to belong to, is of current interest. In this letter, we propose a generalized tanh method, with symbolic computation, to construct a family of soliton-like solutions for a (2 + 1)-dimensional breaking soliton equation.

Abstract:A generalized tanh method for finding multiple travelling wave solutions of nonlinear evolution equations (NLEEs) is proposed and implemented in a computer algebraic system. The key idea of this method is to take full advantages of a Riccati equation involving a parameter and use its solutions to replace the tanh-function in the tanh method. It is quite interesting that the sign of the parameter can be used to exactly judge the numbers and types of such travelling wave solutions. In this way we can successfully recover the previously known solitary wave solutions that had been found by the tanh method. More importantly, for some equations. with no extra effect we also pick up other new and more general types of solutions at the same time. In addition, we further extend the generalized tanh method to some special types of equations, such as complex coupled MKdV equation, coupled Schrodinger-Boussinesq equation and generalized Fisher equation. These equations have not tanh-polynomial solutions and cannot be dealt with directly by tanh method.

Abstract:Studies on the shallow water waves belong to the cutting-edge issues in sciences and engineering. In this paper, introducing symbolic computation, for a generalized nonlinear shallow water wave equation, with respect to the displacement and velocity of the water, we establish an auto-Bäcklund transformation with some solitonic solutions, as well as a set of the similarity reductions, the latter of which ought to be focused towards a known ordinary differential equation. Our results are seen to tie to the gravitational force and wave height.

Abstract:Based on the Hirota bilinear method and Wronskian technique, two different classes of sufficient conditions consisting of linear partial differential equations system are presented, which guarantee that the Wronskian determinant is a solution to the corresponding Hirota bilinear equation of a (3+1)-dimensional generalized shallow water equation. Our results show that the nonlinear equation possesses rich and diverse exact solutions such as rational solutions, solitons, negatons, and positons.

Abstract:In physical sciences, nonlinear evolution equations (NLEEs) and their exact solutions are of fundamental importance. However, there is no answer yet as to whether or not one is able to go beyond travelling waves with the recently proposed tanh method. In this paper, without loss of conciseness and straightforwardness, a generalized tanh algorithm with symbolic computation is suggested for the construction of new solition-typed solutions for certain NLEEs. Illustrative examples are presented for several equations of current interest in the physical sciences, i.e., the (2+1)-dimensional breaking solition equation, the (3+1)-dimensional generalized shallow water wave equation, and the coupled set of the (2+1)-dimensional integrable dispersive long wave equations.

Abstract:Making use of a new generalized ansatzes, we present the generalized extended tanh-function method for constructing the exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations (NPDEs) in a unified way. Abstract:The application of symbolic computation to nonlinear evolution equations is likely to become of practical value in engineering sciences. Illustrated in this paper is a typical (2 + 1)-dimensional breaking soliton equation, whose new families of soliton-like solutions are found via the generalized tanh method, including the overturning soliton solutions. Examples are given, and solitary waves are shown to be a simple case.

Abstract:In this paper, a new algebraic method with symbolic computation is presented to uniformly construct a series of exact solutions for general nonlinear equations. Compared with most existing tanh methods, the proposed method not only gives new and more general solutions, but also provides a guideline to classify the various types of the solutions according to the values of some parameters. For illustration, we apply the proposed method to solve a new generalized Hirota–Satsuma coupled system and explicitly construct a series of exact solutions which include the soliton solutions and elliptic doubly periodic solutions as special cases. In addition, the links among our proposed method, the tanh method and the extended method are also clarified generally.
