Abstract:A knowledge-based FMS scheduling system and its flexible approaches to the dynamic scheduling are introduced in this paper. Flexible algorithm and flexible routing control are combined to create a feasible schedule in both off-line and on-line cases. Integrated with heuristic knowledge, this approach increases the chances of getting optimal or good schedule in limited time, and makes the real-time rescheduling possible.

Abstract:Equipment grid and equipment pool model of equipment grid are introduced. The process from submitting a job in equipment grid to obtaining of results is analyzed. A fuzzy scheduling method is proposed in equipment pool when a job is submitted to one of equipments within a pool. Fuzziness of this method lies in vagueness of users' appraisals about experiment results and execution quality of equipments. Equipment in a pool has a probability, which can be adjusted by users' fuzzy appraisals, to be scheduled. Users' feedback information is used in this paper to improve execution quality. Some algorithms are provided to increase utilization ratio of equipments with high execution quality and decrease utilization ratio of those with poor execution quality. From simulation result, it is obvious that this method and related algorithms can provide users more chances with high execution quality.

Abstract:In this paper, a distributed scheduling approach of a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) is presented. A new class of Petri nets called networked time Petri nets (NTPN) for system modeling of networking environment is proposed. The distributed intelligent scheduling is implemented by three schedulers which combine NTPN models with expert system techniques. The simulation results are shown.

Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence

Abstract:Flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) are highly automated and require effective scheduling approaches to improve the system performance and integrate various control decision-making activities. In this paper, a multi-agent approach integrated with a filtered-beam-search (FBS)-based heuristic algorithm is proposed to study the dynamic scheduling problem in a FMS shop floor consisting of multiple manufacturing cells. The approach is based on a hybrid architecture which is composed of a set of distributed agents each using local information to generate real-time schedules. The FBS-based algorithm is embedded into agents as the scheduling engine, which makes improvement in the generation procedure of branches to obtain optimal or sub-optimal schedules quickly. A FIPA CNIP-based negotiation mechanism is utilized to realize coordination of agents to achieve a globally good schedule. To demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach, a proof-of-concept prototype system has been implemented in the JADE™ platform. Computational experiments of the approach are also presented in comparison with those of other methods.

Abstract:In flexible manufacturing environment,various internal and external disturbances occur stochastically and dynamically and a requirement for fast and effective rescheduling is needed.In such cases,to realize dynamic scheduling effectively,a structure model of dynamic scheduling decision system was presented and a filtered-beam-search based heuristic algorithm was proposed as the kernel of the model.The proposed algorithm makes improvement in the generation procedures of branches and the local/global evaluation functions to search the space solution more effectively,to consider and incorporate the due dates and priority weights of jobs and resource load balance more effectively.Finally,with respect to a due date-based objective(weighted quadratic tardiness),the performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated and compared with that of other approaches through simulations,and the results show that the proposed algorithm can generate quite satisfactory reschedule in a very short computational time.

Abstract:In the practical production process of a flexible manufacturing system (FMS), unexpected disturbances such as rush orders arrival and machine breakdown may inevitably render the existing schedule infeasible. This makes dynamic rescheduling necessary to respond to the disturbances and to improve the efficiency of the disturbed FMS. Compared with the static scheduling, the dynamic rescheduling relies on more effective and robust search approaches for its critical requirement of real-time optimal response. In this paper, a filtered-beam-search (FBS) -based heuristic algorithm is proposed to solve the dynamic rescheduling problem in a large and complicated job shop FMS environment with realistic disturbances. To enhance its performance, the proposed algorithm makes improvement in the local/global evaluation functions and the generation procedure of branches. With respect to a due date-based objective (weighted quadratic tardiness), computational experiments are studied to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm in comparison with those of other popular methods. The results show that the proposed FBS-based algorithm performs very well for dynamic rescheduling in terms of computational efficiency and solution quality.

Abstract:Scheduling of production in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) has been extensively researched over the past years and it continues to attract the interests of both academic researchers and practitioners. The generation of new and modified production schedules is becoming a necessity in today's complex manufacturing environment. Genetic algorithms are used in this paper to obtain an initial schedule. Uncertainties in the production environment and modelling limitations inevitably result in deviations from the generated schedules. This makes rescheduling or reactive scheduling essential. Four different types of uncertainties that normally cause discrepancies between the actual output and the planned output are considered in this paper. These include unforeseen machine breakdowns, increased order priority, rush orders arrival and order cancellations. In this paper, the current status of the shop is considered while rescheduling. The proposed algorithms revise only those operations that must be rescheduled and can, therefore, be used in conjunction with the existing scheduling methods to improve the efficiency of flexible manufacturing systems.

Abstract:This paper classifies the researches about train operation schedule according to two aspects of train operation diagram preparation and train operation adjustment.The train operation diagram preparation problems of the single two-lane section and the dedicated passenger line are presented.The train operation real-time adjustment,adding(canceling) additional train services and conflict prediction schemes are introduced.The importance of researching real-time and intelligence properties of the automatic schedule system,the evacuation of the trains under emergency conditions and the train operation schedule in the peak holiday situations are discussed.

Abstract:Scheduling is a problem related tightly to enterprise production efficiency. Due to the complexity of scheduling problem, traditional scheduling methods can't meet the requirements of manufacturing such as generating schedule scheme in time and response to changes quickly. In this paper, a new workflow-based scheduling method - Workflow Scheduling Management System (WfSMS) is proposed. The integration of workflow management system and rule-based scheduler provides us an effective way to generate correct task sheet according to the states of system and the scheduling object. First, the definition of workflow model for scheduling is proposed. Then follows the discussion of architecture and mechanism of the proposed WfSMS. At last a prototype system is established to test our idea.

Abstract:Energy efficiency is one of the key drivers for improving the efficiency of resource utilization in smart manufacturing. Within the manufacturing environments, the importance of energy efficiency has grown. However, in most cases the energy consumption of the manufacturing systems are considered using average energy consumption models or simple scheduling models for the needs of discrete event simulation. This paper researches on energy-efficiency scheduling based on the scenario of multi-tasks and multi-resources in smart manufacturing. The scheduling problem is analyzed and modeled as a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) problem with constraints, such as the feasibility of time domain or space, qualification and initial state. A solution of the mixed integer linear programming which optimized by a fast algorithm based on score ranking is designed under time of use (TOU) electricity pricing scheme in smart grid, in which the electricity price varies throughout a day. The feasibility of the method is verified by simulation case. Under the premise of ensuring the reasonable allocation of manufacturing tasks, the goal of smart manufacturing process and long-term energy optimization would be achieved.

Abstract:In order to solve the multi-stage dynamic scheduling problem of container terminal logistics system using FMS(flexible manufacture system) scheduling methods for reference,a model was presented to transform it to the production scheduling problem in FMS.The rule-based method is feasible to implement the dynamic and real time scheduling about container terminal logistics by analyzing decision points and rules of each scheduling stage.The transformation model and scheduling method provide one innovative(idea) to solve the scheduling problem in container terminal.Besides,two scheduling simulation models((operation) line-oriented static scheduling and operation area-oriented dynamic scheduling) were built by(WITNESS) simulation software and compared to the simulation results.The production efficiency is improved 9.66% by the dynamic model.

Abstract:Employee scheduling aims to assign employees to shifts to satisfy daily workload and constraints. Some employee scheduling problems and their variants have been proven NP-hard, and a series of works have been done. However, the existing algorithms consider the fixed work time, which may cause plenty of overstaffing and understaffing phenomenons. Hence, this paper proposes a fast-flexible strategy based approach (FFS) to solve it. FFS introduces the idea of soft work time, which allows the work time of employees can be adjusted in a range. Based on this, we set the flextime strategy to decide the specific work time of each employee every day. Besides, FFS adopts a pairwise-allocated strategy and proficiency average matrix to boost its efficiency and effectiveness. Finally, the extensive experimental evaluation shows that FFS is more effective and efficient than the baselines for solving the employee scheduling problem considering soft work time.

Abstract:We will put forward the integrated problem of vehicle scheduling and vehicle filling in a logistics system and design an integrated algorithm to solve it in this paper. The integrated algorithm basically consists of a genetic algorithm section for a vehicle routing problem and a heuristic algorithm section for a vehicle filling problem. At the same time, these two algorithm sections are related to each other, solving the integrated problem together. To verify the effectiveness and practicability of the algorithm, corresponding computer programs are designed to solve the practical problem. The programs can quickly gain correct and very satisfying results.

Abstract:Aiming at problems that the flexible scheduling capability of the production line in the existing factory is poor due to islanding effect and existing scheduling methods ignore non-cutting time and dynamic change of time when solve the minimum completion time, this paper studies the optimization of multi-variety and small batch workflow scheduling, and establishes an optimal job flow allocation model based on dynamic time parameters. Taking a flexible flow shop as an example, the model is applied to the implementation, and the EM-PLANT simulation software is used to make digital decision to realize the scientific scheduling of workpiece flow in cyber environment of production line. The simulation results show that the optimal allocation model can reduce the average completion time of workflow and improve production line efficiency.

Abstract:Abstract Maintenance support resource scheduling (MSRS) problem has attracted increasing attention in modern battle. Its objective is minimizing execution time of allocating multiple resources from multiple supply centers to tasks. As a NP-hard problem, there exist various constraints in the MSRS problem, including resource demands of tasks, resource reserves of supply centers and transport paths constraint. In this paper, we first build two models taking route planning and resource scheduling into consideration simultaneously. Then, with cutting plane approach and dual algorithm, we can obtain the optimal scheduling schemes corresponding to two models. Besides, the performance of the two approaches are verified with different scale instances.

Abstract:In this study, we address the fuzzy multiproduct multistage scheduling problem (FMMSP). The FMMSP with the objective of minimizing makespan is close to practical manufacturing circumstances in terms of the uncertainty in processing time. Backtracking searching algorithm (BSA) is a new proposed meta-algorithm for continuous optimization problems. To solve the FMMSP, an improved discrete BSA, called discrete BSA with local search (DBSA-LS), is developed. The information of the global best solution is incorporated into the mutation process to improve the convergence speed of discrete BSA. A local search related to the FMMSP enhances the exploitation ability of the improved discrete BSA. Left shift operation is applied to improve the solution quality when a hybrid encoding string is decoded into the scheduling scheme. The influence of the key parameter on the performance of the proposed algorithm is tested using different size instances. Sixteen different scales of instances are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed DBSA-LS. Several comparisons are conducted between DBSA-LS and three other algorithms.
