Abstract:In this paper we study the Cauchy problem for the generalized Boussinesq equation with initial data in modulation spaces $M^{s}_{p^\prime ,q}(\mathbb {R}^n),$$n\ge 1.$ After a decomposition of the Boussinesq equation in a $2\times 2$-nonlinear system, we obtain the existence of global and local solutions in several classes of functions with values in $ M^s_{p,q}\times D^{-1}JM^s_{p,q}$-spaces for suitable p, q and s, including the special case $p=2,q=1$ and $s=0.$ Finally, we prove some results of scattering and asymptotic stability in the framework of modulation spaces.

Abstract:The study of low regularity Cauchy data for nonlinear dispersive PDEs has successfully been achieved using modulation spaces $M^{p,q}$ in recent years. In this paper, we study the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation (INLS) $$iu_t + \Delta u\pm |x|^{-b}|u|^{\alpha}u=0,$$ where $\alpha, b>0,$ on whole space $\mathbb R^n$ in modulation spaces. In the subcritical regime $(0<\alpha< \frac{4-2b}{n}),$ we establish local well-posedness in $L^{2}+M^{\alpha+2,\frac{\alpha+2}{\alpha+1}}( \supset L^2 + H^s \ \text{for} \ s>\frac{n\alpha}{2(\alpha+2)}).$ By adapting Bourgain's high-low decomposition method, we establish global well-posedness in $M^{p,\frac{p}{p-1}}$ with $2<p$ and $p$ sufficiently close to 2. This is the first global well-posedness result for INLS on modulation spaces, which contains certain Sobolev $H^s$ $(0<s<1)$ and $L^p_s-$Sobolev spaces.

Abstract:In this paper we derive time-decay and Strichartz estimates for the generalized Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equation on the framework of modulation spaces $M^s_{p,q}.$ We use this results to analyze the existence of local and global solutions of the corresponding Cauchy problem with rough data in modulation spaces. The results improve known results in Sobolev spaces in some sense.

Abstract: In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation whose nonlinearity is $|u|^{k}u$ in the modulation space, where $k$ is not an integer. Our method can be applied to other equations whose nonlinear parts have regularity estimates. We also study the global solution with small initial value for the Klein-Gordon-Hartree equation. By this we can show some advantages of modulation spaces both in high and low regularity cases.

Abstract:We study the Cauhcy problem for space-time fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a general nonlinearity. We prove the local well-posedness of it in fractional Sobolev spaces based on the decay estimates and Hölder type estimates. Due to the lack of the semigroup structure of the solution operators, we deduce the decay estimates and Hölder type estimates via the asymptotic expansion of the Mittag-Leffler functions and Bessel functions. In particular, these results also show the dispersion of the solutions.

Modulational Stability of Wave Trains in the Camassa-Holm Equation

Abstract:In this paper, we study the nonlinear wave modulation of arbitrary amplitude periodic traveling wave solutions of the Camassa-Holm (CH) equation. Slow modulations of wave trains is often described through Whitham's theory of modulations, which at leading order models the slow evolution of the fundamental wave characteristics (such as the wave's frequency, mass and momentum) through a disperionless system of quasi-linear partial differential equations. The modulational stability or instability of such a slowly modulated wave is considered to be determined by the hyperbolicity or ellipticity of this Whitham modulation system of equations. In work by Abenda \& Grava, the Whitham modulation system for the CH equation was derived through averaged Lagrangian methods and was further shown to always be hyperbolic (although strict hyperbolicity may fail). In this work, we provide an independent derivation of the Whitham modulation system for the CH equation through nonlinear WKB / multiple scales expansions. We further provide a rigorous connection between the Whitham modulation equations for the CH equation and the spectral stability of the underlying periodic wave train to localized (i.e. integrable on the line) perturbations. In particular, we prove that the strict hyperbolicity of the Whitham system implies spectral stability in a neighborhood of the origin in the spectral plane, i.e. spectral modulational stability. As an illustration of our theory, we examine the Whitham modulation system for wave trains with asymptotically small oscillations about their total mass.

Abstract:We consider parabolic Schrödinger type equations associated to fractional powers of uniformly elliptic 2m-order operators with constant coefficients. Potentials and initial data are considered in suitable Morrey spaces. By means of perturbation techniques we prove that several properties of the problem with no potential are preserved. We also prove continuous dependence of solutions with respect to perturbations. To carry out the analysis a general abstract perturbation approach is developed, which broadens the results known in the literature.

Abstract:Modulational instability has been used to explain the formation of breathers and rogue waves qualitatively. In this paper, we show modulational instability can be used to explain the structure of them in a quantitative way. In the first place, we develop a method to derive general forms for Akhmediev breathers, rogue waves and their multiple or high order ones in a N-component nonlinear Schrödinger equations. The existence condition for each pattern is clarified clearly with a compact algebraic equation. Moreover, we show that the existence condition of ABs and RWs is consistent with the dispersion relation of the linear stability analysis on the background solution. The results further deepen our understanding on the quantitative relations between modulational instability and homoclinic orbits solutions.

Abstract:We prove that the fundamental semi-group $e^{it\left( {m^2 I + \left| \Delta \right|} \right)^{1/2} }$ (m ≠ 0) of the Klein-Gordon equation is bounded on the modulation space M p,q s (ℝ n ) for all 0 < p, q ⩽ ∞ and s ∈ ℝ. Similarly, we prove that the wave semi-group $e^{it\left| \Delta \right|^{1/2} }$ is bounded on the Hardy type modulation spaces µ p,q s (ℝ n ) for all 0 < p, q ⩽ ∞, and s ∈ ℝ. All the bounds have an asymptotic factor t n|1/p−1/2| as t goes to the infinity. These results extend some known results for the case of p ⩾ 1. Also, some applications for the Cauchy problems related to the semi-group $e^{it\left( {m^2 I + \left| \Delta \right|} \right)^{1/2} }$ are obtained. Finally we discuss the optimum of the factor t n|1/p−1/2| and raise some unsolved problems.

Abstract:We obtain local wellposedness for the Vlasov‐Riesz‐Fokker‐Planck system in Modulation space, as well as a regularity‐enhancing property of the system. We provide an estimate of the nonlinear term in Modulation space with higher regularity. The proof primarily relies on exploiting the properties of operators in Modulation space, while also drawing upon a proof analogous to that of the Bernstein multiplier theorem.

Abstract:In this article, we conduct a comprehensive investigation into the global existence, blow-up and stability of standing waves for a $ L^{2} $-critical Schrödinger-Choquard equation with harmonic potential. First, by taking advantage of the ground-state solutions and scaling techniques, we obtain some criteria for the global existence and blow-up of the solutions. Second, in terms of the refined compactness argument, scaling techniques and the variational characterization of the ground state solution to the Choquard equation with $ p_{2} = 1+\frac{2+\alpha}{N} $, we explore the limiting dynamics of blow-up solutions to the $ L^{2} $-critical Choquard equation with $ L^{2} $-subcritical perturbation, including the $ L^{2} $-mass concentration and blow-up rate. Finally, the orbital stability of standing waves is investigated in the presence of $ L^{2} $-subcritical perturbation, focusing $ L^{2} $-critical perturbation and defocusing $ L^{2} $-supercritical perturbation by using variational methods. Our results supplement the conclusions of some known works.

Abstract:We study the stability properties of periodic solutions to the Nonlinear Schr\"odinger (NLS) equation with a periodic potential. We exploit the symmetries of the problem, in particular the Hamiltonian structure and the $\U(1)$ symmetry. We develop a simple sufficient criterion that guarantees the existence of a modulational instability spectrum along the imaginary axis. In the case of small amplitude solutions that bifurcate from the band edges of the linear problem this criterion becomes especially simple. We find that the small amplitude solutions corresponding to the band edges alternate stability, with the first band edge being modulationally unstable in the focusing case, the second band edge being modulationally unstable in the defocusing case, and so on. This small amplitude result has a nice physical interpretation in terms of the effective mass of a particle in the periodic potential. We also consider, in somewhat less detail, some sideband instabilities in the small amplitude limit. We find that, depending on the Krein signature of the collision, these can be of one of two types. Finally we illustrate this with some exact calculations in the case where $V(x)$ is an elliptic function, where all of the relevant calculations can be done explicitly.

Abstract:The local well-posedness with small data in H-s (R-n) (s >= 3 + max(n/2,1(+))) for the Cauchy problem of the fourth order nonlinear Schrodinger equations with the third order derivative nonlinear terms were obtained by Huo and Jia [17]. In this paper we show its global well-posedness with small data in the modulation space M-2,1(7/2) and in Sobolev spaces Hn/2+7+/2. Abstract:The local and global well-posedness for the one dimensional fourth-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation are established in the modulation space $M^{s}_{2,q}$ for $s\geq \frac12$ and $2\leq q <\infty$. The local result is based on the $U^p-V^p$ spaces and crucial bilinear estimates. The key ingredient to obtain the global well-posedness is that we achieve a-priori estimates of the solution in modulation spaces by utilizing the power series expansion of the perturbation determinant introduced by Killip-Visan-Zhang for completely integrable PDEs.

Abstract:In this paper, under the exponential/polynomial decay condition in Fourier space, we prove that the nonlinear solution to the quasi-periodic Cauchy problem for the weakly nonlinear Schrödinger equation in higher dimensions will asymptotically approach the associated linear solution within a specific time scale. The proof is based on a combinatorial analysis method present through diagrams. Our results and methods apply to {\em arbitrary} space dimensions and general power-law nonlinearities of the form $\pm|u|^{2p}u$, where $1\leq p\in\mathbb N$.
