Abstract:The high temperature soft magnetic properties of Fe85.2Zr3.5Nb3.5B6.8Cu1 amorphous and nanocrystalline alloy were investigated. A Hopkinson peak was observed in the amorphous alloy, which was not observed in the nanocrystalline alloy, and this has been explained by the combination of the anisotropy reduction and the deterioration of magnetic properties. A rapidly decrease in permeability at the Curie temperature of amorphous (Tcam) was observed in amorphous and partial crystallized nanocrystalline alloys, this phenomenon was disappeared in the highly crystallized nanocrystalline alloys, which was illustrated by the intergrain exchange magnetic coupling through a thin amorphous layer in the two-phase nanocrystalline alloy.

Abstract:FexCo81-xNi19/CNTs nanocomposites with controllable composition were fabricated using wet chemistry method.The samples were characterized by XRD,TEM,SAED,EDX spectroscopy and VSM.The results show that FexCo81-xNi19 alloy nanoparticles attached on CNTs are granular and dispersed uniformly.During the composition range(x=21,33,46),fcc and bcc structure coexist obviously.The magnetic properties of FexCo81-xNi19 alloy nanoparticles vary with alloy composition.With increasing Fe content,Hc decreases while Ms increases dramaticly.The alloys of a composition of Fe46Co35Ni19 own the optimal magnetic property.

Abstract:In the present work, different synthesis procedures have been demonstrated to fill carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with $\mathrm{Fe}_{1-x}\mathrm{Ni}_x$ alloy nanoparticles (x = 0.33, 0.5). CNTs act as templates for the encapsulation of magnetic nanoparticles, and provide a protective shield against oxidation as well as prevent nanoparticles agglomeration. By variation of the reaction parameters, the purity of the samples, degree of filling, the composition and size of filling nanoparticles have been tailored and therefore the magnetic properties. The samples were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Bright-field (BF) TEM tomography, X-ray powder diffraction, superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The Fe1-xNix-filled CNTs show a huge enhancement in the coercive fields compared to the corresponding bulk materials, which make them excellent candidates for several applications such as magnetic storage devices.
Preparation and Properties of Fe-Co-Ni Alloy/co0.5ni0.5fe2o4 Magnetic Composite Nanofibers

Abstract:A series of Fe-Co-Ni alloy/Co0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 composite nanofibers with average diameters from 67 to 85 nm and various alloy contents were synthesized by hydrogen-thermal reduction of Co0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 nanofibers prepared via sol-gel methode and electrospinning. The obtained nanofiber samples were characterized by TG-DTA, XRD, FE-SEM, TEM and VSM. The results show that the mass fraction of Fe-Co-Ni alloys in the reduced products progressively increases from 15.2%to about 95.7%with increasing the reduction temperature of Co0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 nanofibers from 290℃to 350 ℃. Meanwhile, the fiber diameter gradually decreases and the fiber surface morphology evolves toward the bead-like structures. The magnetic field dependence of the magnetization behaves as if the as-prepared Fe-Co-Ni alloy/Co0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 composite nanofibers are single-phase magnetic materials, which indicates that the two magnetic phases in composites are effectively exchange-coupled and that the magnetization of both phases reverses cooperatively. The saturation magnetization and remanence of the samples increase monotonically with the increase of Fe-Co-Ni alloy content, while the corresponding coercivity shows a trend of first increase and then decrease. The formation of Fe-Co-Ni alloy phase can not only obviously improve the soft magnetic performance of the composite nanofibers, but also effectively realize the wide-range control for the magnetic parameters through adjusting the Fe-Co-Ni alloy content in composites.

Abstract:Carbon-encapsulated Fe nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized by a two-step procedure method of hydrothermal and subsequent thermal reduction process. The introduction of hydrogen atmosphere helps to obtain pure α-Fe phase and the lower annealing temperature (at 550°C). The morphological characterization indicates that the nanoparticle presents a quasi-spherical shaped, core–shell structure with diameter ranged from 10 to 20nm and a carbon shell of about 4nm. The results of X-ray diffraction and Raman spectrum demonstrate that carbon in the as-synthesized product is in amorphous phase. Magnetic measurements reveal the ferromagnetic behavior of the product.

Abstract:Highly stable Fe–Ni alloy nanoparticles encapsulated in carbon nanotubes have been synthesized by in situ catalytic decomposition of benzene over Fe–Ni alloy nanoparticles generated through procedures of sol–gel fabrication and hydrogen reduction. The phases of graphite and γ-FeNi solid solution (face centered cubic) were identified by X-ray diffraction. The results of FE-SEM and HRTEM characterization revealed that Fe–Ni nanoparticles encapsulated in carbon nanotubes are generated in large quantity. The composites are highly stable in air and show soft magnetic property, with saturation magnetization affected by the composition of Fe–Ni alloy and the temperature of benzene decomposition.

Abstract:FeNi alloy nanoparticles with controllable sizes were attached on the multiwalled carbon nanotubes by adjusting the atomic ratio of metal to carbon in the mixed solution of nitrate with Fe:Ni=1:1 (atomic ratio) via wet chemistry. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution TEM indicated that quasi-spherical FeNi alloy nanoparticles with sizes in the range 12–25nm are obtained. FeNi alloy composed of major face center cubic (fcc) and minor body center cubic (bcc) structures, which is proved by the X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). Magnetization measured by vibrating sample magnetometer demonstrated that both the coercive force and saturation magnetizations decrease as the size of the FeNi alloy nanoparticles decreased. The chemical method is promising for fabricating FeNi alloy nanoparticles attached on carbon nanotubes for magnetic storage and ultra high-density magnetic recording applications.

Abstract:Despite intensive research on optimizing the methods for depositing carbon encapsulated ferromagnetic nanoparticles, the effect of the carbon cages remains unclear. In the present work, the effect of the graphitic cages on the magnetization of the ferromagnetic core has been studied by comparing the magnetic properties of pure and carbon encapsulated Ni particles of the same size. The carbon encapsulated Ni particles were formed using an electric arc discharge in de-ionized water between a solid graphite cathode and an anode consisting of Ni and C in a mass ratio of Ni:C = 7:3. This method is shown to have potential for low cost production of carbon encapsulated Ni nanoparticle samples with narrow particle size distributions. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) analysis were used to study the crystallography, morphology, and size distribution of the encapsulated and pure Ni nanoparticle samples. The availability of encapsulated particles with various sizes allowed us to elucidate the role of carbon cages in size-dependent properties. Our data suggest that even though encapsulation is beneficial for protection against hostile chemical environments and for avoiding low proximity phenomena, it suppresses the saturation magnetization of the Ni cores.

Abstract:A series of Ni1-xCuxFe2O4 (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) nanofibers have been synthesized employing electrospinning method at 650°C. The effect of Cu substitution on structural, morphology and magnetic properties of NiFe2O4 nanofibers is reported. The XRD analysis showed the formation of single-phase cubic spinel Ni-Cu ferrite and an increasing behavior of lattice constant. The surface morphology is characterized by SEM, it is investigated that nanofibers have uniform and continuous morphology. The VSM results showed Cu substitution played an important role in magnetic properties of Ni1-xCuxFe2O4. The saturation magnetization (Ms) decreases linearly with increasing Cu2+ content, while coercivity (Hc) has slowly decreased before x ≤ 0.5, and then sharply increased to 723.9 Oe for x = 1.0. The magnetic properties of Ni1-xCuxFe2O4 can be explained in Neel’s model, cation distribution and shape anisotropy.
Crystallization kinetics and magnetic properties of Fe 63.5Co10Si13.5B9Cu 1Nb3 nanocrystalline powder cores

Abstract:Amorphous ribbons of the alloy Fe63.5Co10Si13.5B9Cu1Nb3 were prepared by the standard single copper wheel melt spinning technique in air and their crystallization kinetics was analyzed by non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements. The crystallization activation energies (Ex, Ea1 and Ea2) of amorphous ribbons calculated from Kissinger model were 448, 385 and 396kJ/mol for the first and the second crystallizations, respectively. The Avrami exponent n was calculated from the Johnson–Mehl–Avrami (JMA) equation and was used to identify the crystallization mechanism for the amorphous ribbons. The ribbons were milled into different sized flakes, which were molded subsequently to cores using 3wt.% epoxy as a binder. The effective permeability of the cores showed high frequency stability and increased with the size of the flakes. For the cores made from small sized flakes (−75μm), the quality factor was increased at high frequencies, which was attributed to the reduction in the eddy current loss.

Abstract:Fe1−xNix alloy nanoparticles (x=0.25, 0.50, 0.75), with diameters in the range of 12–15nm were uniformly attached on the surface of carbon nanotubes by wet chemistry, which were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction. When x=0.25, fcc and bcc structure coexist obviously, while when x=0.50, 0.75, most of Fe1−xNix alloy nanoparticles have fcc structure. Fe1−xNix alloy nanoparticles attached on carbon nanotubes have soft magnetic in nature, and the coercivity decreases with increasing Ni concentration and with decreasing the nanoparticles size, the saturation magnetization varies with the Ni concentration changes. These demonstrate that the chemical method here is promising for fabricating Fe–Ni alloy nanoparticles coated on carbon nanotubes for magnetic storage applications.

Abstract:The microstructure morphology, static magnetic properties, and electromagnetic absorption characteristics of nano FexCoNi alloy particles prepared by chemical liquid deposition with five different Fe content levels are investigated in this paper. The results show that spherical FexCoNi alloy particles with an average particle size of about 100–200 nm and a face-centered cubic crystal structure were obtained. All five samples exhibited soft magnetic behavior, with the saturation magnetization intensity showing an increasing-then-decreasing trend with increasing Fe content, peaking at 141.8 emu/g for Fe content x = 1.0. The dielectric constants (real and imaginary parts) of the prepared alloy particles exhibit significant differences with respect to the variation of Fe content, while the changes in the real and imaginary parts of the magnetic permeability show less pronounced effects with increasing Fe content. As the electromagnetic wave frequency increases, the real parts of the dielectric constants for all composites show minimal fluctuations, and the real parts of the magnetic permeability exhibit a decreasing trend. Moreover, the imaginary parts of the dielectric constants and magnetic permeability show an increasing followed by a decreasing trend as the frequency rises. The material with Fe content x = 1 demonstrated optimal dielectric loss performance and relatively excellent magnetic loss performance, with a sample thickness of 1.9 mm exhibiting the highest reflection loss (RLmax) of −24.2 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth of 4.48 GHz.

Abstract:A series of Fe-Ni alloy/Ni-ferrite composite nanofibers with average diameters of 60～70 nm were successfully fabricated using electrospinning combined with the hydrogen-thermal reduction method.The thermal decomposition behavior of electrospun precursor nanofibers and crystal structures,phase compositions,morphologies and magnetic properties of the resultant products were characterized by means of thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis,X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,selected area electron diffraction,and vibrating sample magnetometer.It is found that both the preparation temperature of the pristine Ni-ferrite nanofibers and the reduction temperature have considerable influences on the phase compositions and magnetic properties of the corresponding reduction products.With increasing reduction temperature from 270 to 400 ℃ for the Ni-ferrite nanofibers prepared at 550 ℃,the content of Fe-Ni alloy in the reduction products increases gradually,the saturation magnetizations,remanences and coercivities increase initially,respectively reaching a maximum value of 203.0 emu g-1,54.9 emu g-1 and 42.7 kA m-1 for the composite obtained after reduction at 320 ℃,with a mass fraction of about 82% for Fe-Ni alloy,and then decrease with a further increase in reduction temperature.As the preparation temperature of the pristine Ni-ferrite nanofibers decreases from 700 to 400 ℃,the saturation magnetizations of the corresponding products obtained at the same reduction condition(i.e.,reduction at 300 ℃ for 1h) increase gradually,while their remanences and coercivities show a trend of first increase and then decrease,and the reduction product of Ni-ferrite nanofibers synthesized at 500 ℃ has a maximum remanence and coercivity of 62.2 emu g-1 and 47.8 kA m-1,respectively.Compared to the pristine Ni-ferrite nanofibers,the prepared Fe-Ni alloy/Ni-ferrite composite nanofibers exhibit more excellent soft magnetic properties with much enhanced saturation magnetization due to introduction of Fe-Ni alloy phase.Furthermore,the composite nanofibers composed of three magnetic phases in crystallography show a good single-phase magnetic behavior,implying that these magnetic phases in composites are well exchangecoupled with each other.The observed changes in magnetic properties for the prepared composite nanofibers can be explained on the basis of the differences in intrinsic magnetic properties between Fe-Ni alloy and Ni-ferrite phases and the changes in grain size,phase composition and magnetic interactions.These novel magnetic composite nanofibers have potential application prospects in flexible magnets,sensing devices,catalysis,microwave absorption and electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding.

Abstract:Depending on the Ni:Co molar ratio, composites of NiCo/carbon nanorods and NiCo/carbon nanotubes can be synthesized through catalytic decomposition of benzene at 500 °C over NiCo nanoparticles derived from sol–gel synthesis followed by hydrogen reduction. According to x-ray diffraction results, the average grain size of NiCo31 is 11.2 nm, whereas that of NiCo13 and NiCo22 is 24.9 nm. Field-emission scanning electron microscopic and high-resolution transmission electron microscopic images reveal that over NiCo13 and NiCo22, the carbon nanomaterials are mainly in the form of nanorods, whereas over NiCo31, they are in the form of nanotubes. The composites of carbon and NiCo alloy are highly stable in air and show soft magnetic property and almost equal coercivity. It is observed that the saturation magnetization is affected by the composition of NiCo alloy.
Structure, morphology and magnetic performance of (Fe 65 Co 35 )x@(Ni 0.5 Zn 0.5 Fe 2 O 4 ) 100-x nanocomposite thin films

Abstract:A bi-magnetic phase (Fe65Co35)x@(Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4)100-x nanocomposite thin film was created by combining Fe65Co35 alloy nanoclusters produced through plasma gas condensation with Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 thin film prepared via RF magnetron sputtering. The study revealed that the Fe65Co35 alloy nanoclusters, with an average particle size of approximately 6 nm, are surrounded by the amorphous ferrite phase, forming a granular 'core-shell' structure. As the proportion of Fe65Co35 alloy nanoclusters increased from 5.9 wt.% to 35.4 wt.%, the grain size of the nanocomposite thin films decreased from 24 nm to 10.4 nm. Magnetic analysis demonstrated that the nanocomposite thin films displayed soft magnetic properties at room temperature. With an increase in Fe65Co35 content, the saturated magnetization of the nanocomposite thin films escalated from 68 emu/cm3 to 214 emu/cm3, significantly surpassing that of the corresponding NiZn ferrite films (~17 emu/cm3). The fluctuation of coercivity is intricately linked to the grain size of the nanocomposite thin films, and at 24.5 wt.% of Fe65Co35 alloy nanoclusters, the coercivity is minimized to 14 Oe. The ferromagnetic resonance spectra of the nanocomposite films exhibited some asymmetric broadening and shift. As the Fe65Co35 content increased, the resonance field initially decreased and then rose, while the resonance linewidth gradually decreased.

Abstract:. In this study, FeNi 3 /Al 2 O 3 core-shell nanocomposites, where individual FeNi 3 nanoparticles were coated with a thin layer of alumina, were fabricated by a modified sol-gel method. Several physical characterizations were performed on the samples of FeNi 3 /Al 2 O 3 nanocomposites with different thickness of Al 2 O 3 shell. The encapsulation of FeNi 3 nanoparticles with alumina stops FeNi 3 agglomeration during heat treatment, and prevents interaction among the closely spaced magnetic FeNi 3 nanoparticles. The Al 2 O 3 insulating shell improves the soft magnetic properties of FeNi 3 . The study of the complex permeability of the samples shows that the real part μ’ of the permeability of the sample with Al molar content of 20% (Al/(Fe+Ni)) is as high as 12, and independent of frequency up to at least 1 GHz. The tunneling magnetoresistance arising from the presence of the Al 2 O 3 shell have also been studied.

Abstract:This paper reports the synthesis of carbon-encapsulated Fe3O4, γ-Fe2O3, and Fe nanostructures using FeOOH as a precursor and carbon nanocapsules (CNCs) as nanoreactors via controllable thermal transformation processes. The magnetic property investigation reveals that the as-synthesized Fe3O4-CNCs, γ-Fe2O3-CNCs, and Fe-C nanostructures all exhibit ferromagnetic behavior with quite high saturation magnetizations. Moreover, the Fe3O4-CNCs with a controlled carbon coating are prepared and their comparative lithium storage properties are investigated. It is found that optimized Fe3O4-CNCs exhibit high capacity and good cycling performance.

Abstract:20 nm diameter Fe-Co nanowire arrays with different composition were fabricated by electrodeposition. A nanoporous anodized aluminium oxide film was used as the substrate. The microstructure and magnetic properties were studied by x-ray fluorescence, transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction and vibrating sample magnetometry. Both the coercivity H, and the spontaneous magnetization M-s increase when the Co content in Fe-Co alloy increases from 0 to about 30 at.%, and then decrease with further increase in the Co content. A model called the 'chain of crystals' is developed and solved to explain the experimental results.

Abstract:A novel synthetic process has been developed to fabricate the magnetic alloy/spinel ferrite composite nanofibers. By employing the electrospinning technique and subsequent partial reduction, Fe-Ni alloy/ nickel ferrite composite nanofibers with an average diameter of around 170 nm were successfully prepared. The synthesized composite nanofibers consist of the face centered cubic and body centered cubic phases of Fe-Ni alloy and the spinel phase of nickel ferrite, and have novel magnetic properties with much enhanced coercivity and saturation magnetization as compared with the pristine nickel ferrite nanofibers.
