Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents of Rhododendron seniavinii.METHOD:Compounds were isolated from the aqueous extract of the leaves of R. seniavinii by using Sephadex LH-20, ODS open column chromatography and other means. Their structures were elucidated according to spectral data and physiochemical properties.RESULT:Thirteen compounds were isolated from R. seniavinii and identified as 5-methoxydehydroconiferyl alcohol (1), dehydroconiferyl alcohol (2), (-)-syringaresinol (3), (-)-lyoniresinol (4), (+)-lyoniresinol 3alpha-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (5), (-)-lyoniresinol 3alpha-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (6), 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl-1-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (7), nikoenoside (8), 3,5,7-trihydroxychromone-3-0-alpha-L-rhamnopyranoside (9), 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenol (10), scopoletin (11), scopolin (12) and quercitrin (13).CONCLUSION:Compounds 1-12 were obtained from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the chemical constituents from the roots and rhizomes of Rhodiola sachalinensis. Methods The chemical constituents were isolated by repeated silica gel chromatography, medium pressure column chromatography, and semi-preparative liquid chromatography, and their structures were elucidated by chemical properties and spectroscopic analyses. Results Eighteen compounds were isolated and identified to be gallic acid (1), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (2), salidroside (3), benzyl-O-β-D-glucopyranodide (4), phenylethyl-8-O-β-D-glucopyranodide (5), cinnamyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (6), sachalinol (7), quercetin (8), quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (9), kaempferol (10), kaemferol-7-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (11), kaempferol 7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (12), kaemnpferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnoside (13), kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside-7-O-α-L-rhamnoside (14), tricin (15), tamarixetin (16), herbacetin-7-O-α-L-rhamnoside (17), and herbacetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside-7-O-α-L rhamnoside (18). Conclusion Compounds 9, 12, and 16 are obtained from the plants in Rhodiola L. for the first time. Compounds 2, 7, 8, 14, and 18 are obtained from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Ten compounds were isolated from the stems of Rhododendron delavayi Franch.by various chromatographic techniques.By spectroscopic methods,their structures were elucidated as isorhamnetin(1),nectandrin B(2),resveratrol-3-O-β-D-glucoside(3),lysidiside N(4),19α-hydroxyasiatic acid(5),betulinic acid(6),3β-hydroxylup-12-en-28-oic-acid(7),obtusalin(8),methyl 2,4-dihydroxy-6-methylbenzoate(9),and 2,5-dihydroxy-3-methoxytoluene(10),respectively.Compounds 2-9 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Objective:To study the chemical constituents of Rhododendron irroratum Franch.Methods: Compounds were isolated by silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and the structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral characteristics.Results: Eleven compounds were isolated and identified from R.irroratum Franch.as β-daucosterol(1),aurantiamid acetate(2),β-daucosterol(3),oleanolic acid(4),3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid(5),2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid(6),gallic acid(7),kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucoside(8),kaempferol-3-O-β-D-galactoside(9),quercitrin(10),myricetin-3-O-β-D-glucoside(11).Conclusion: All the eleven compounds were obtained from this plant for the first time,and compounds 2,5~7,9 and 11 were isolated from Rhododendron for the first time.

Abstract:An unusual natural product named 2,4,6-trihydroxacetophenone-3, 5-di-C-beta-D-glucoside (18) were isolated from aerial parts of Rhododendron lepidotum grows in Tibet, along with other 17 known compounds: hopenol-B (1), lupeol (2), ursolic acid (3), avicularin (4), quercetin (5), myricetin (6), hyperoside (7), myricetin-3'-O-beta-D-xyloside (8), (+)-taxifolin-3-O-alpha-L-arabinopyranoside (9), (+)-taxifolin-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (10), lyoniside (11), confluentin (12), 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-ethyltriacontanoate (13), 2, 6-dimethoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl-1-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (14), (-)-2-hydroxy-5-(2-hydroxyethyl) phenyl-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (15), (-)-isola-riciresinol (16) and isofraxoside (17). All the compounds were firstly isolated from this plant as well as compounds 1, 13-18 were reported occurrence in R. spp. for the first time. The structures were identified based on analyses of spectroscopic data and physico-chemical evidences.

Abstract:Objective: To study the chemical constituents in the root of Rheum wittrochii. Method: Chromatography and spectroscopic analysis were used to isolate and elucidate the chemical constituents in the plant. Result: Six compounds, namely chrysophanol, physcion, emodin, chrysophanol-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, physcion-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside and β-sitosterol, have been isolated from petroleum ether and ethyl acetate fractions. Conclusion: All the above-cited compounds were isolated from the title plant for the first time, and anthraquinone compounds are some of the major constituents of R. wittrochii.

Abstract:A new chromone glycoside, 3,5,7-trihydroxylchromone-3-O-α-L-arabinopyranoside ( 1 ), together with quercetin ( 2 ), (+)-catechin ( 3 ), (−)-epi-catechin ( 4 ) were isolated from the aerial parts of Rhododendron spinuliferum . The structure of 1 was elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic and 2D-NMR spectral analysis. In addition, 1 exhibited mild inhibitory effect on NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To determine the chemical constituents of Gentiana rhodantha.METHOD:To isolate the constituents, column chromatography over silica gel, MCI, Sephadex LH-20 and C18 reverse-phased silica gel were used. Spectroscopic methods were used to elucidate the structures of the isolated compounds.RESULT:Sixteen compounds were isolated and elucidated as ten phonemic compounds, namely 1,3,7,8-tetrahydroxylxanthone (1), rhodanthenone D (2), 1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxylxanthone (3), 1,3,7-trihydroxy-4,8-dimethoxyxanthone (4), quercetin (5), isoorientin (6), mangiferin (7), norswertianolin (8), gallic acid ethyl ester (9) and salicylic acid (10), and six triterpenes including alpha-amyrin (11), erythrodiol 3-O-palmitate (12), ursolic aldehyde (13), uvaol 3-O-acetyl (14), ursolic acid (15) and 2alpha-hydroxyursolic acid (16).CONCLUSION:Compounds 4-6, 8, 10-12, 15 and 16 were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compounds 1 and 3 were obtained firstly from the genus Gentiana and compounds 9, 13-14 were firstly from the family Gentianaceae.

Abstract:Seven compounds were isolated from the extraction fraction of ethyl acetate which is extracted from the 70% ethanol extract of Rhodiola bupleuroides rhizome by silic gel column chromatography and preparative thin layer chromatography(Prep-TLC),and structurally identified by spectral technology and chemical methodology.They are gallic acid(1),kaempferol-7-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside(2),rhodiosin(3),quercetin(4),syringic acid(5),3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxy benzene carbonic-7-O-β-D-pyranglucose(6),β-sitosterol(7).All the compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time,and 5,6 were isolated from this genus for the first time.

Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents from the leaves of Rhododendron spiciferum and their immunomodulatory activities. Methods The chemical constituents were isolated by various chro-matography techniques and their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. The immunomodulatory activity of some compounds was examined by Balb/c mouse spleen lymphocyte proliferation through MTT. Results Twelve known flavonoids were isolated and identified as: quercetin-3-O-α-L-ara-binfuranside (1) , quercetin-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (2), frans-taxifolin-3-O-α-crarabinopyranoside (3), astilbin (4), 3-O-rhamnoside engeletin (5), naringenin (6), (2S)-5, 7, 4'-trihydroxy-8-methylflavanone (7), epicatechin-(2β→O→7,4β→8)-ent-epicatechin (8), proanthocyanidin A-l (9), bis-8, 8'-catechiny-lmethane (10), catechin (11), and epicatechin (12). The results showed that compounds 8, 9, and 11 alone or combined with ConA or LPS could significantly enhance the proliferation of spleen lymphocytes in a certain dose range. Conclusion This is the first report on the chemical constituents from R. spiciferum. Compounds 8,9, and 11 are found to be effect on increasing immunomodulatory activity.

[Study on the chemical constituents in the volatile oils of the flowers of Tibetan medicine Rhododendron anthopogon]

Abstract:Objective: To study the chemical constituents of the volatile oils from the flowers of Rhododendron anthopogon D. Don. Methods: The volatile oils from the flowers of Rhododendron anthopogon D. Don were extracted by water steam distillation and its chemical constituents were separated and identified by GC-MS. The content of each constituent was determined by area normalizetion method. Results: Fifty peaks were separated and forty seven components were identified, which constituted about 97.44% of the total essential oils. Conclusions: The main compounds are N-acetyl-1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydro-isoquinoline (29.23%), 2-Ethoxypropane (12.47%), 3-Methyl-6-tert-butylphenol (10.83%), 3-Methyl-5-phenyl-isothiazole (6.38%), Diphenylamine (4.20%), N-ethyl-1, 2,3,4-tetrahydro-naphthalenamine (3.62%), Pentacosane (3.12%) and Tricosane (3.06%).
