Abstract:We investigate ground states of a (nonlocal) nonlinear Schrodinger equation which generalizes classical (fractional, relativistic, etc.) Schrodinger equations, so that we extend relevant results and study common properties of these equations in a uniform way. To obtain the existence of ground states, we first solve a minimization problem and then prove that the solution of the minimization problem is a ground state of the equation. After examining the regularity of the solutions to the equation, we demonstrate that any ground state is sign-definite.

Abstract:In this paper we study the following nonlinear Schrodinger equation {-Delta u+a(x)u=f(x,u), u epsilon H-1(R-N), where a is periodic with respect to x and f(x,u) is superlinear in u. Suppose that 0 lies in a gap of the spectrum sigma(-Delta+a). Without periodic assumption on f, we prove the existence of ground state solution for the system. Moreover, we obtain some sufficient conditions for the nonexistence of ground state solution.

Abstract:We study ground states of a nonlinear Schrodinger equation driven by the infinitesimal generator of a rotationally invariant Levy process. The equation includes many special cases such as classical Schrodinger equations, fractional Schrodinger equations and relativistic Schrodinger equations, etc. It is proved that the equation possesses ground states in a suitable space of functions, then the regularity of solutions to the equation is examined, in particular, any solution is Holder continuous, and, if the process involves diffusion terms, any solution is twice differentiable further. Finally, we show that any ground state is either positive or negative.

We take advantage of the critical point theorem developed by Jeanjean (Proc. R. Soc. Edinburgh Sect A., 1999, 129: 787–809) and combine it with Pohožaev identity to obtain the existence of a ground-state solution, which is the non-trivial solution with the least possible energy.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the following nonlinear Chern–Simons–Schrödinger system $$\begin{aligned} {\left\{ \begin{array}{ll} -\Delta u+ V(|x|)u+\lambda \left( \int ^\infty _{|x|}\frac{h(s)}{s}u^2(s)ds+\frac{h^2(|x|)}{|x|^2}\right) u=|u|^{p-2}u~~ \text {in}~ {\mathbb {R}}^2,\\ u(x)=u(|x|)\in H^1({\mathbb {R}}^2), \end{array}\right. } \end{aligned}$$ where $$\lambda >0$$ , the Chern–Simons term $$h(s)=\int _0^s\frac{r}{2}u^2(r)dr=\frac{1}{4\pi }\int _{B_s}u^2(x)dx$$ and V(|x|) is an external potential. Under some suitable conditions on the external potential, we prove the existence of a positive ground state solution for $$p\in (6,+\infty )$$ via the Pohožaev–Nehari manifold method and the global compactness lemma. The novelty of this works with respect to some recent results is that we establish a key lemma which is analogous to the Br $$\acute{e}$$ zis–Lieb convergence lemma. Furthermore, we also prove concentration of these ground state solutions. As its supplementary results, we give the several nonexistence results of nontrivial solutions.

Lack of any symmetry property of \begin{document}$ a $\end{document} and \begin{document}$ K $\end{document}, we present some new sufficient conditions to guarantee the existence of a positive ground state solution of above system. Our results extend and complement the ones of [G. Cerami, G. Vaira, J. Differential Equations 248 (2010)] in which \begin{document}$ p\in (4,6) $\end{document}, \begin{document}$ a $\end{document} and \begin{document}$ K $\end{document} need to satisfy additional integrability conditions.

Abstract:Abstract We consider ground states of the nonlinear fractional Schrödinger equation with potentials (-Δ)s⁢u+V⁢(x)⁢u=f⁢(x,u),s∈(0,1),(-\Delta)^{s}u+V(x)u=f(x,u),\quad s\in(0,1), on the whole space ℝN{\mathbb{R}^{N}}, where V is a periodic non-negative nontrivial function on ℝN{\mathbb{R}^{N}} and the nonlinear term f has some proper growth on u. Under uniform bounded assumptions about V, we can show the existence of a ground state. We extend the result of Li, Wang, and Zeng to the fractional case.

Abstract:We study the following doubly critical Schrödinger system $$-\Delta u -\frac{\la_1}{|x|^2}u=u^{2^\ast-1}+ \nu \al u^{\al-1}v^\bb, \quad x\in \RN, -\Delta v -\frac{\la_2}{|x|^2}v=v^{2^\ast-1} + \nu \bb u^{\al}v^{\bb-1}, \quad x\in \RN, u, v\in D^{1, 2}(\RN),\quad u, v>0 in $\RN\setminus{0}$},$$ where $N\ge 3$, $\la_1, \la_2\in (0, \frac{(N-2)^2}{4})$, $2^\ast=\frac{2N}{N-2}$ and $\al>1, \bb>1$ satisfying $\al+\bb=2^\ast$. This problem is related to coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations with critical exponent for Bose-Einstein condensate. For different ranges of $N$, $\al$, $\bb$ and $\nu>0$, we obtain positive ground state solutions via some quite different methods, which are all radially symmetric. It turns out that the least energy level depends heavily on the relations among $\al, \bb$ and 2. Besides, for sufficiently small $\nu>0$, positive solutions are also obtained via a variational perturbation approach. Note that the Palais-Smale condition can not hold for any positive energy level, which makes the study via variational methods rather complicated.

Abstract:In this article we prove the existence of ground state solutions for the quasilinear Schrodinger equation -Delta u + V(x)u - Delta(u(2))u = g(u), x is an element of R-N, where N >= 3, V is an element of C-1(R-N , [0, infinity)) satisfies mild decay conditions and g is an element of C(R, R) satisfies Berestycki-Lions conditions which are almost necessary. In particular, we introduce some new inequalities and techniques to overcome the lack of compactness.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the following Schrodinger-Poisson system: {-Delta u + V(x)u + lambda K(x)phi u = =f(x,u), x is an element of R-3, -Delta phi = K(x)u(2), x is an element of R-3, where lambda > 0 is a parameter, K is an element of L-p(R-3) with 2 <= p <= + infinity, and the function f(x, s) may not be superlinear in s near zero and is asymptotically linear with respect to s at infinity. Under certain assumptions on V, K, and f, we give the existence and nonexistence results via variational methods. More precisely, when p is an element of [2, + infinity], we obtain that system (SP) has a positive ground state solution for lambda small; when p = + infinity, we prove that system (SP) has a positive solution for lambda small and has no any nontrivial solution for lambda large. Abstract:We study a coupled Schrödinger system with general nonlinearities. By using variational methods, we prove the existence and asymptotic behaviour of ground state solution for the system with periodic couplings. Moreover, we prove the existence and nonexistence of ground state solution for the system with non-periodic couplings via Nehari manifold method. Especially, the ground state solution with both nontrivial components is obtained, and the sign of nontrivial components is considered.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we study the existence and concentration of positive ground state solutions for the semilinear Schrödinger-Poisson system where ε > 0 is a small parameter and λ ≠ 0 is a real parameter, f is a continuous superlinear and subcritical nonlinearity. Suppose that b(x) has a maximum. We prove that the system has a positive ground state solution for all λ ≠ 0 and sufficiently small ε > 0. Moreover, for each λ ≠ 0 we show that uε converges to the positive ground state solution of the associated limit problem and concentrates to a maximum point of b(x) in certain sense as ε → 0. Furthermore, we obtain some sufficient conditions for the nonexistence of positive ground state solutions.
