Abstract:The present paper aims to introduce the authors' research on their improvement of the recently developed pharmaceutical wastewater processing method by regulating the gas/water ratio and hydraulic stop time of BAF as well as the influence of hydraulic and the contained organic loading on the removing rate of COD_(Cr). Compared with the traditional activated sludge processing approach, the main advantages of BAF is more powerful in treating capacity, better in treating effect, less influenced by the temperature. It is also higher in capacity for shock load absorption, with no need for second-time deposition tank. There is no need to use complicated technology. As a new method of pharmaceutical wastewater treatment, BAF can also be used for the advanced sewage treatment. The main objective of the present research is to study how to start BAF, the gas/water ratio, and the influence of hydraulic organic loading on the removing rate of COD_(Cr). The influential organic loading was among 323～1 021 mg/L. The experiment results show that there is no a simple linear relationship between the removal rate of COD_(Cr) and hydraulic or gas/water ratio. In our experiments, we have found eight kinds of materials fit for the filtering process. First of all, we compared the particle size, density, intensity and aeration resistance of the above mentioned eight materials. Then the removal rate of COD_(Cr) was compared in the different hydraulic and water quality conditions. The best and most efficient filter material has been finally discovered.
