Abstract:Due to the deterioration of water pollution and increasing stringent water quality standards, ultrafiltration (UF) has become one of the best alternatives replacing conventional drinking water treatment technologies. In this study, the modified photocatalytic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes were prepared by adding different doses of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and TiO2 nanoparticles through the phase inversion process (PIP) method, and were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The rejection and membrane fouling of PVDF-PEG (P-P) and PVDF-PEG-TiO2 (P-P-T) membranes were investigated during filtration of humic acid (HA). Results indicated that TiO2-doped photocatalytic separation membrane could improve the rejection of natural organic matter (NOM) and reduce the membrane fouling at the same time. The higher the intensity of UV irradiation, the better the anti-fouling characterization of P-P-T membrane was. In addition, when the initial concentration of HA solution was lower during UF, the flux decline of membrane could be decreased more effectively by photocatalysis.
