Abstract:Dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]thiophene (DTT) derivative contains three annulated thiophene rings, which have attracted great attention in the field of materials due to its planar and conjugated molecular, structural rigidity, and increased solubility. Herein, the one-step modular construction of a series of structurally well-defined 2,6-disubstituted dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]thiophenes (2,6-DTT) involves Pd/Cu(I)-catalyzed Sonogashira coupling and LiNH2-mediated ring-closing reaction with element sulfur was reported. The method allows the selective and straightforward introduction of different aryl substitution into DTT without otherwise tedious separation and purification processes. The preliminary study of the thermal and photophysical properties demonstrated that the introduction of substituent in phenyl has great impact for the parent molecule, which enable this protocol to synthesis high-performance 2,6-DTT through the different alkynes.

Abstract:An effective synthetic method to achieve difluoromethylated oxazolidin-2-imine has been developed via visible-light promoted three-component tandem reaction of aryl allylamines, 2-BTSO2CF2H (BT = Benzothiazole) and isocyanates. This method features mild reaction conditions and good functional group tolerance, and the reaction mechanism was confirmed by experiments and interpreted by quantum chemical calculations.

Abstract:Abstract The Baeyer-Villiger reaction is used extensively in organic chemistry. Sila- and bora-variants have also been documented widely, with these processes underpinning, for example, the Fleming-Tamao oxidation and hydroborative alkene hydration, respectively. By contrast, the development of thia-Baeyer-Villiger reactions involving sulfoxides has long been considered unlikely because competitive oxidation to the sulfone occurs exclusively. Here, we disclose a photoinduced thia-Baeyer-Villiger-type oxidations; specifically, we find that exposure of dibenzothiophene (DBT) derivatives to an iron porphyrin catalyst under Ultraviolet irradiation in the presence of t -BuOOH generates sulfinic esters in up to 87% yield. The produced sulfinic esters are transformed to a variety of biphenyl substrates including biphenyl sulfoxides, sulfones and sulfonamides in 1-2 steps. These results provide a mild process for the selective functionalization of sulfur compounds, and offer a biomimetic approach to convert DBT into 2-hydroxybiphenyl under controllable stepwise pathway. Based upon experimental evidences and DFT calculation, a mechanism is proposed.

Abstract:A novel and efficient Cu(I)/Ag(I)-mediated synergistic annulation reaction of [60]fullerene with diary-lethanones, benzoylacetonitriles, and beta-dicarbonyl compounds has been developed for the direct construction of diverse disubstituted dihydrofuran-fused [60]fullerene derivatives. This transformation exhibits a remarkably broad substrate scope and functional group tolerance and provides a useful method to a scarce class of fullerene derivatives.

Abstract:A Lewis acid-catalyzed tandem nucleophilic addition/C-S cleavage/intramolecular annulation of ketene 1,3-dithietanes with aldehydes and photo-induced cycloaddition of ketene 1,3-dithietanes with alkynes were developed in this work. The readily available ketene 1,3-dithietanes were demonstrated as a promising sulfur-containing synthon for the facile construction of the thiophene ring. Moreover, these processes feature simple operation, good functional tolerance and mild reaction conditions. Also, the possible mechanisms are proposed in this study.

Abstract:A very simple and atom‐economical method for the synthesis of vicinal trifluoromethyl thioethers via DBN‐catalyzed hydrothiolation of α‐trifluoromethyl styrenes with thiols was reported. The reaction proceeded smoothly under mild reaction conditions and provided the β‐CF3‐thioethers in moderate to good yields in an anti‐Markovnikov manner.

Abstract:A highly diastereoselective intermolecular [3 + 2] annulation of 1,4-dithiane-2,5-diol to maleimides has been developed by using DABCO as a catalyst, which provides a series of highly functionalized biheterocyclic tetrahydrothiophene derivatives containing tetrahydrothiophene and pyrolidine backbones in excellent yields and diastereoselectivities (up to 98% yield and >20:1 d.r.). The cascade Michael-aldol reaction is capable of tolerating organic solvents as well as water.

Abstract:Fluoranthenes have attracted tremendous attention due to their unique optoelectronic properties and ex-tensive applications.Although several synthetic methodologies have been developed for the preparation of fluoranthene derivatives,it is still unfavorable to functionalize the fluoranthene framework at different positions due to the relatively low selectivity and reactivity.Herein,a catalyst-free intramolecular[4+2]annulation between thiophenes and alkynes is developed towards the synthesis of fluoranthenes.Alto-gether 20 examples have been demonstrated using this method.Various functional groups can be pre-cisely introduced into the fluoranthene skeleton at different positions by simply tuning the substituents on the thiophenes and alkynes.The conjugation of the fluoranthene can be facilely extended through different directions.Furthermore,the feasibility of this[4+2]annulation reaction is also investigated by density functional theory calculations.Therefore,this protocol provides not only a synthetic methodol-ogy towards fluoranthenes with substituents functionalized at different positions,but also an effective pathway to construct large polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons containing fluoranthene moieties.

Abstract:Benzobisthiazole and thiazolothiazole derivatives are useful components in a variety of organic electronics devices resulting from their absorption, electroluminescence, and charge-transport properties. A convenient synthesis of these molecules via palladium/copper cocatalyzed C-H bond functionalization is described. Reaction conditions were optimized in a bromobenzene/benzobisthiazole system that allowed for the one-pot functionalization of both thioimidate positions of benzobisthiazole. The extension of this methodology to the synthesis of cruciform architectures and the functionalization of thiazolothiazole is also described.

Abstract:A straightforward method was developed for construction of aromatic compounds with a triphenylene core. The method involves Pd-catalyzed annulative dimerization of o-iodobiaryl compounds by double C-I and C-H bond cleavage steps. Simple reaction conditions are needed, requiring neither a ligand nor an oxidant, and the reaction tolerates a wide range of coupling partners without compromising efficiency or scalability. Significantly, the tetrachloro-substituted synthon, 1,6,11-trichloro-4-(4-chlorophenyl)triphenylene, can be generated and used to prepare a series of fully fused, small graphene nanoribbons by a late-stage arylation with arylboronic acids and a subsequent Scholl reaction. The synthetic strategy enables bottom-up access to extended π-systems in a controlled manner.

Abstract:An efficient method to prepare dibenzothiophene S -oxides is disclosed. Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling of 2-bromoaryl sulfinate esters with arylboronic acids selectively at the bromo group followed by electrophilic cyclization of the resulting sulfinate ester moiety provides diverse dibenzothiophene S -oxides. Further transformations including Pummerer-type C–H propargylation and aryne reactions realize to synthesize highly functionalized dibenzothiophene derivatives.

Abstract:Highly strained bifunctionalized dialkyl 2H-thiete-2,3-dicarboxylate 1,1-dioxides are directly synthesized from readily available sulfonyl chlorides and dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates via the pyridine-mediated [2 + 2] annulation. In the annulation, pyridine first eliminates HCl from sulfonyl chlorides to generate sulfenes and then nucleophilically attacks the sulfenes to form zwitterionic intermediates, which nucleophilically attack dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates followed by an intramolecular cyclization and isomerization to produce the final dialkyl 2H-thiete-2,3-dicarboxylate 1,1-dioxides. Pyridine serves as both base and nucleophilic catalyst. The current method is an efficient strategy for direct synthesis of highly strained bifunctionalized 2H-thiete 1,1-dioxide derivatives from readily available starting materials.

Abstract:Direct structural modification of small‐molecule fluorophores represents a straightforward and appealing strategy for accessing new fluorescent dyes with desired functionalities. We report herein a general and efficient visible‐light‐mediated method for the direct C‐H functionalization of BODIPY, an important fluorescent chromophore, using readily accessible and bench‐stable aryl and alkenylthianthrenium salts. This practical approach operates at room temperature with extraordinary site‐selectivity, providing a step‐economical means to construct various valuable aryl‐ and alkenyl‐substituted BODIPY dyes. Remarkably, this protocol encompasses a broad substrate scope and excellent functional‐group tolerance, and allows for the modular synthesis of sophisticated symmetrical and asymmetrical disubstituted BODIPYs by simply employing different combinations of thianthrenium salts. Moreover, the late‐stage BODIPY modification of complex drug molecules further highlights the potential of this novel methodology in the synthesis of fluorophore‐drug conjugates.
