Abstract:A silver-catalyzed Minisci-type acylation reaction is reported here. Acylation of electron-deficient N-heterocycles is achieved in aqueous solution through dehydrogenation cross-coupling of aldehydes and N-heteroarenes in open air without external Brønsted acid. Selectfluor® is used as a mild oxidant. This method has been successfully employed in acylation of a variety of N-heteroarenes with aldehydes. This strategy provides an efficient and mild method for acylation of N-heteroarenes.

Abstract:<p>Silver-catalyzed decarboxylative C–H alkylation of cyclic aldimines with abundant aliphatic carboxylic acids has been realized under mild reaction conditions generating the corresponding products in moderate to good yields (32%-91%). In addition, a gram-scale reaction, late-stage modification of drug, synthetic transformation of the product, and further application of the catalytic strategy were also performed. Preliminary studies indicate that the reaction undergoes a radical process.</p>

Abstract:A novel silver-catalyzed decarboxylative acylation of alpha-oxo-carboxylic acids was developed, by which various 3-acyl quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones were synthesized by direct C-H bond acylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones. In this method, alpha-oxo-carboxylic acids served as efficient acylating reagents to in situ generate the required active acyl radical. Its excellent chemoselectivity allowed the molecular diversity of 3-acyl quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones to be achieved by convenient functionalizations of both N1- and C3-positions.

Abstract:A photoredox-catalyzed sequential decarboxylative/defluorinative aminoalkylation of CF3-alkenes with N-arylglycines is described. This metal-free and redox-neutral protocol provided efficient access to the monofluoroalkenyl-1,5-diamines in good yields with excellent functional group compatibility. Mechanistic studies revealed that the reaction proceeds via a radical pathway with the gem-difluoroalkenyl amine as an intermediate.

Abstract:Abstract A Rh-catalyzed electrochemical vinylic C–H annulation of acrylamides with alkynes has been developed in an undivided cell, affording cyclic products in good to excellent yield. Divergent syntheses of α-pyridones and cyclic imidates are accomplished by employing N-phenyl acrylamides and N-tosyl acrylamides as substrates, respectively. Additionally, excellent regioselectivities are achieved when using unsymmetrical alkynes. This electrochemical process is environmentally benign compared to traditional transition metal-catalyzed C–H annulations because it avoids the use of stoichiometric metal oxidants. DFT calculations elucidated the reaction mechanism and origins of substituent-controlled chemoselectivity. The sequential C–H activation and alkyne insertion under rhodium catalysis leads to the seven-membered ring vinyl-rhodium intermediate. This intermediate undergoes either the classic neutral concerted reductive elimination to produce α-pyridones, or the ionic stepwise pathway to produce cyclic imidates.

Abstract:Chemoselective oxa-Diels-Alder reactions between electrically neutral 1,3-dienes and various aldehydes were achieved using the commercially available silver tetrafluoroborate (AgBF4) as catalyst. This catalytic process has high functional group tolerance. Heteroatoms at the beta-position of the aryl aldehydes can greatly promote the reactivity of the substrates even with heterocyclic aldehydes that were previously believed to be unreactive for the oxa-Diels-Alder reaction. In addition, acroleins with beta-heteroatom substitution are also good substrates. High chemoselectivity and regioselectivity were achieved at room temperature for the oxa-Diels-Alder reaction between acroleins and stoichiometric simple 1,3-dienes.

Abstract:After systematic realization of decarboxylative functionalization of carboxylic acids under heating conditions in our group, we herein reported an electrochemical method for Ni-catalyzed decarboxylative oxygenation of arylacetic acids under open air conditions. The protocol provided corresponding carbonyls including aldehydes and ketones in moderate to satisfactory yields with good functional group tolerance, furthermore, the practicability and advantage of the method was highlighted through Ni-catalyzed oxidative decarboxylation of carboxylic acid-containing drugs and preformation of scalable transformation. Mechanistic studies demonstrated that the possible involvement of free radical intermediate in the conversion.

Abstract:Decarboxylative cross-coupling of aliphatic acid anhydrides with vinyl triflates or halides was accomplished via nickel catalysis. This methodology works well with a broad array of substrates and features abundant functional group tolerance. Notably, our approach addresses the issue of safe and environmental installation of methyl or ethyl group into molecular scaffolds. The method possesses high chemoselectivity toward alkyl groups when aliphatic/aromatic mixed anhydrides are involved. Furthermore, diverse ketones could be modified with our strategy.

Abstract:Cobalt-catalyzed regioselective three-component arylcarboxylation of acrylate with aryl bromides and carbon dioxide has been developed. The reaction is carried out by using cobalt chloride as a precatalyst and zinc powder as a reducing reagent under CO2 (1 atm) at 40 degrees C. A range of aryl bromides are used for this reaction, leading to a series of valuable carboxylic acids with high regioselectivity and functional-group compatibility. Mechanistic experiments and DFT calculations indicate that this arylcarboxylation reaction involves the reaction of CO2 with a cobalt enolate intermediate to form the C-C bond.

Abstract:A rhodium(I)‐catalyzed decarboxylative hydroacylation of readily available vinylethylene carbonates with salicylaldehydes for regioselective preparation of esters has been developed. Reaction optimization reveals that methacrylamide might promote the hydroacylation by bidentate chelation assistance to the cationic rhodium. Mechanistic findings suggest this one‐pot coupling reaction proceeds via Markovnikov hydrorhodation‐initiated site‐selective β‐C−O bond cleavage with concurrent release of CO2.
