Abstract:The exploration of inexpensive and stable heterogeneous catalysts and application of green solvents for Ullmann C-N coupling reaction remain challenging. We present a facile fabrication of copper nanoparticles on hydrochar as prepared from natural, inexpensive and renewable chitosan together with in-situ reduction of copper salt in a one-pot hydrothermal carbonization process. The copper nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed on hydrochar by choosing block copolymer F127 as surfactant. Moreover, maleic acid was introduced to improve the hydrophilicity of hydrochar. The most active copper nanocomposite catalyst, that is, Cu/HCS-MA-F127, exhibited excellent catalytic activity for Ullmann C-N coupling reaction in water. The nature of the Cu/HCS-MA-F127 was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, TG, XRD, SEM and XPS. Moderate to excellent yields of aimed products were gained by using this catalytic strategy. Moreover, the Cu/HCS-MA-F127 catalyst can be reused by simple centrifugal recovery with a stable performance.

Abstract:A facile, high-yielding and straightforward methodology for the copper-catalyzed synthesis of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles in water, using in situ prepared copper nanoparticles (NPs) on modified poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) [SMA] catalyst, is reported. The polymer support was easily prepared from the reaction of SMA with 4-aminopyridine and subsequently underwent reaction with CuI NPs. The catalyst was applied for the preparation of triazoles under air, followed by chromatographic separation of the products. The polymer-supported catalyst not only showed high catalytic activity but also showed high 1,4-regioselectivity for the [3 + 2] Huisgen cycloaddition in water as solvent. The products were obtained in good to excellent yields in all cases. The catalyst can be used without pre-activation and reloaded for at least five runs without significant decrease in its activity. The catalyst was characterized by SEM, energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis of X-rays, and inductively coupled plasma.

Abstract:The azide-alkyne click polymerization (AACP) has emerged as a powerful tool for the synthesis of functional polytriazoles. While, for the Cu(I)-catalyzed AACP, the removal of the catalytic Cu(I) species from the resulting polytriazoles is difficult, and the research on the recyclability and reusability of the catalyst remains intact. Herein, we reported the first example of using recyclable and reusable supported Cu(I) catalyst of CuI@A-21 for the AACP. CuI@A-21 could not only efficiently catalyze the AACP but also be reused for at least 4 cycles. Moreover, pronounced reduction of copper residues in the products was achieved. Apart from being a green and cost-effective polymer synthesis strategy, this method will also broaden the application of AACP in material and biological sciences and provide guidelines for other polymerizations with metal catalysts.

Abstract:A green,efficient,and recyclable catalytic protocol for Ullmann C—N reaction in water was developed.The catalyst Chi-Gly@CuI was prepared by the cross-linking reaction of chitosan bead with glyoxal and subsequently anchored with copper salt.Chi-Gly@CuI bead of 0.3 mm in mean diameter possesses porous micro-structure demonstrated by scanning electron microscope (SEM).The structure of Chi-Gly@CuI was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR),thermogravimetric analysis (TG),X-ray diffraction (XRD),inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).This catalytic protocol for Ullmann reaction in water exhibited high applicability,from which the corresponding coupling products were afforded in good to excellent yields.Chi-Gly@CuI could be easily separated from products by simple filtration almost without weight loss.Most notably,after 10 times of recycling,its catalytic activity and chemical stability were still maintained.

Abstract:The Cu(I)-catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition (CuAAC) has been developed into a powerful polymerization reaction for the synthesis of new polytriazoles with versatile properties. However, research on recyclable and reusable copper catalyst for click polymerization to meet the requirement of green chemistry was rarely reported. Copper nanoparticles were reported to be capable catalysts for CuAAC. Replacing conventional copper catalyst with copper nanoparticles may realize the recycle and reuse of the copper catalyst in click polymerization. In this paper, copper nanoparticles were prepared and used as an effective catalyst for click polymerization, and soluble polytriazoles with high molecular weights were obtained in excellent yields under optimized reaction conditions. Importantly, the copper nanoparticles can be recycled and reused for up to 11 times for the click polymerization. Moreover, introducing aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-active moiety of tetraphenylethylene into the monomers makes the resultant polymers retain the AIE feature. This work not only provides an efficient recyclable catalytic system for the azide-alkyne click polymerization, but also might inspire polymer chemists to use recyclable copper species to catalyze other polymerizations.

Abstract:An air-stable supported Cu(I) catalyst, CuI@PS-Phen, was designed and synthesized. CuI@PS-Phen can efficiently catalyze the click polymerization of diynes a and diazides b to produce soluble and thermally stable polytriazoles with high molecular weights ( M w up to 30800), and low copper residue content (down to 190 ppm) in high yields (up to 94.2%) under mild reaction conditions without the exclusion of oxygen.

Abstract:Introduction: An effective Cu-complex, [Cu(NH3)4SO4 • H2O] was prepared conveniently from the inexpensive and easily available starting reagents in a simple route. Materials and methods: Excellent reactivity of the catalyst was observed towards two competent clickcycloadditions: (a) oxidative cycloaddition of azides with electron-poor olefins and (b) one-pot cycloaddition of alkynes with boronic acid and sodium azide under "click-appropriate" conditions. Results: No external oxidant, short reaction time, high product yield, wide substrate scope, and aqueous solvent media make the azide-olefin cycloaddition approach a greener route in contrast to the reported methods. Conclusion: The newly developed mild, green, and rapid three-component strategy shows product diversity with superb yields at room temperature by reducing the synthetic process time and using only 1 mol % of the synthesized copper complex.

Abstract:The synthesis of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles through copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction has gained much attention due to its versatility and broad range of applications. In this study, we report two novel heterogeneous copper catalysts based on dehydroacetic acid chitosan Schiff base (DCSB) for the CuAAC reaction in water. The DCSB was synthesized through the condensation reaction of dehydroacetic acid and chitosan, and was subsequently used to support Cu(II) ions and CuO nanoparticles (CuO NPs). The prepared compounds were characterized using FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, EDX, BET, and TGA analyses. The performance of the catalysts was evaluated in a model reaction involving the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of benzyl chloride, phenylacetylene, and sodium azide for the synthesis of 1,2,3-triazoles. After optimizing the reaction conditions, the scope of the reaction was extended to various substituted benzyl chlorides and alkyne molecules. Moreover, the recyclability of the catalysts was studied for up to four cycles.

Abstract:The synthesis of novel porous polymeric materials with active coordinating motifs is one of the most interesting topics in the field of heterogeneous catalysis and materials chemistry. This study adopts a post-modification strategy to construct three CuI-modified covalent triazine frameworks with different micropores. Bipyridine coordination sites are formed in the porous polymeric structures when the monomers are polymerized into covalent triazine frameworks. Cuprous iodide is uploaded into the skeleton via Cu–N/Cu–I cooperative coordination and forms a metal catalytic site. Furthermore, the uniformly anchored [(N^N) CuI] metal catalytic site donates CTFs to catalyze the azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction in an aqueous solution, with high efficiency, excellent tolerance (>70% isolated yield for seven examples), and good recyclability, at room temperature.

Abstract:A transition-metal- and oxidant-free amination/cyclization reaction to access 1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyridines was realized in water by using amino diphenylphosphinate as amino source. A broad array of readily accessible N-(pyridyl)amides could be converted into the products featuring a diverse set of functional groups. The sustainable methodology was successfully applied to the late-stage functionalization of natural products and drugs.

Abstract:Generation of value-added materials from waste product is in high demand for sustainable chemistry. In order to reduce the use of toxic chemicals in the synthesis of metal nanoparticles, alternative green methods are in demand. Herein, we report the synthesis of copper oxide nanoparticles from plant extract of Colocasia esculenta leaves which is thrown as waste after cultivation. The synthesized nanoparticle was characterized using UV, FT-IR, EDX, TEM, AAS, DLS, and XPS. The synthesized nanoparticles were used as heterogenous catalyst for carrying out the click reaction of azide and alkyne. The catalyst showed good catalytic activity for the synthesis of various 1,2,3-triazoles with very low catalyst loading (0.535 mol% of copper) giving excellent yield of various triazoles. The catalyst could be easily separated from the reaction medium and recycled several times without losing much catalytic activity. The catalyst showed good TON (177.6) and TOF (29.6 h−1) for the optimized reaction. Thus, the method has several advantages such as synthesis of the nanoparticle from cheap sources (plant extract of waste Colocasia esculenta leaves), use of the water as environmentally benign solvent for carrying out the click reaction, one-pot reaction, low catalyst loading, recyclability of catalyst, and high yield of 1,2,3-triazole products.

Abstract:The selective conversion of alkynes into bromotriazoles over a single-component catalyst is highly desirable but presents significant challenges. In this study, we developed a robust copper-bonded polyoxomolybdates-based framework [Cu 2 (Mo 6 O 20 )]·2H 2 O ( CPF-1 ), and it integrates the catalytic ability of Cu(I) site with the multielectron-transfer ability of polyoxometalates. As a result, CPF-1 exhibits favorable bifunctional catalytic activity for click chemistry and achieves 99% yield in the conversion of corresponding products to bromotriazoles. To our knowledge, CPF-1 represents the first heterogeneous catalyst that significantly enhances cascade reaction with excellent efficiency and sustainable recyclability. Additionally, the possible cascade catalytic mechanisms of these two reactions are also proposed.

Abstract:The Cu(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne click polymerization has become a powerful tool for the preparation of functional polytriazoles. However, copper residues in the products could harm the performance of optoelectronic devices and be cytotoxic in biological applications. The complete removal of these residues after reaction from the polymers is therefore necessary but difficult. The metal-free azide-alkyne click polymerization (MFCP) provides a solution to this problem. Currently, the MFCP is facilitated by activated alkynes, and no activated comonomer, i.e. azide, has been reported. In this paper, an activated azide, 4,4'-diazidoperfluorobenzophenone , was designed and synthesized. Compared to the ordinary azide, such a monomer can remarkably accelerate the MFCP with alkynes. Thus, a new MFCP of activated azide and alkyne was established, and polytriazoles with high regioregularity (fraction of 1,4-isomer higher than 82%) and satisfactory molecular weights (M-w up to 34 000) were produced in high yields (up to 95.1%).

Abstract:A one-pot, highly efficient procedure was reported for the synthesis of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles in water as a green solvent using Cu@KCC-1-NH-CS2 as a novel nanoreactor. Different methods such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and adsorption/desorption analysis (BET equation) have been used for the characterization of engineered nanocatalyst. High surface area (133 m2 g−1) and porous structure of the nanocatalyst, excellent catalytic performance in ecofriendly and green solvent with very short reaction times (5–20 min), easy work up, no use of toxic solvents, and suitable reusability of the catalyst are advantages of this presented work.Graphic abstract

Abstract:A hydrazone ligand, (E)-6-(2-((2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl)methylene)hydrazinyl)nicotinohydrazide (H2L), was synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic methods. The reaction of H2L with CuCl2·2H2O in methanol gave Cu(II) coordination compound, [Cu(HL′)(Cl)]·CH3OH (1), which was characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods (Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and UV–vis). The structure of 1 was also determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis. Structural studies confirmed the formation of esteric group during the synthesis of 1. Compound 1 was immobilized on 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS)-functionalized silica gel through the amidification reaction and the obtained heterogeneous coordination compound was utilized as a catalyst for the three-component azide–epoxide–alkyne cycloaddition reaction in water as a green solvent. The structural properties of the heterogeneous catalyst were characterized by a combination of FT-IR, UV–vis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS) analyses. The effect of the amount of catalyst and temperature on the cycloaddition reaction was studied, and the obtained 1,2,3-triazoles were characterized by spectroscopic studies and single-crystal X-ray analysis. The catalytic investigations revealed that this catalytic system has high activity in the synthesis of β-hydroxy-1,2,3-triazoles. It was also found that the aromatic and aliphatic substituents on the alkyne and epoxide together with the reaction temperature have considerable effects on the activity and regioselectivity of this catalytic system.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:Click chemistry focuses on the development of highly selective reactions using simple precursors for the exquisite synthesis of molecules. Undisputedly, the Cu-I-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) is one of the most valuable examples of click chemistry, but it suffers from some limitations as it requires additional reducing agents and ligands as well as cytotoxic copper. Here, we demonstrate a novel strategy for the azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction that involves a photoredox electron-transfer radical mechanism instead of the traditional metal-catalyzed coordination process. This newly developed photocatalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction can be performed under mild conditions at room temperature in the presence of air and visible light and shows good functional group tolerance, excellent atom economy, high yields of up to 99 %, and absolute regioselectivity, affording a variety of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazole derivatives, including bioactive molecules and pharmaceuticals. The use of a recyclable photocatalyst, solar energy, and water as solvent makes this photocatalytic system sustainable and environmentally friendly. Moreover, the azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction could be photocatalyzed in the presence of a metal-free catalyst with excellent regioselectivity, which represents an important development for click chemistry and should find versatile applications in organic synthesis, chemical biology, and materials science.

Abstract:Here, a novel nanostructured catalyst based on CuO included hallow mesoporous silica spheres (CuO–HMSS) was prepared for synthesis of 1,2,3-triazole compounds. The hallow silica spheres were synthesized via the hydrothermal procedure.
