Abstract:Ruthenium catalysts supported on alumina were synthesized by microwave irradiation and used to catalyze ozonation of dimethyl phthalate in water. The catalysts enhanced greatly the TOC (total organic carbon) removal. The contribution of catalysis and adsorption to the overall TOC removal were 33% and 50%, respectively. 300W was the optimal irradiation power for catalyst preparation. Moisture content had little effect on the catalytic activity. Compared to conventional irradiation, microwave irradiation benefited the catalytic activity because it provided a homogeneous dispersion of metal on the support. It is a promising thermal treatment method for developing the catalysts used in catalytic ozonation.
