Abstract:Cardiovascular CT angiography (CTA) has been widely used for ruling out significant coronary artery stenoses in selected populations. However, the associated high X-ray radiation dose in CTA imaging has caused a significant concern in CT fields. In this paper, in order to reduce the radiation dose in CTA imaging, the normal-dose scan induced nonlocal means (ndiNLM) method was adapted for low-mAs scanned CTA image restoration. Specifically, the ndiNLM exploits the redundancy of information in the unenhanced normal-dose scan by optimizing the non-local weight in the nonlocal means (NLM) filtering strategy. Qualitative and quantitative evaluations were carried out on clinical CTA scans in terms of accuracy and resolution properties. Compared with the original NLM filtering, the evaluations clearly demonstrate that the ndiNLM method achieves higher accuracy and lower noise, while well preserving the diagnostic structures.
