Abstract:Phosphine-catalyzed intermolecular sequential [4 + 3] domino annulation/allylic alkylation of MBH carbonates and N-tosyl azadienes is reported. A series of functionalized benzofuran-fused seven-membered nitrogen-heterocyclic compounds with one quaternary center were obtained in good to excellent yields. In this sequential reaction, three new bonds were formed in one pot, and the MBH carbonates serve as 1,2,3-C3 synthon and C1 synthon at the same time.

Abstract:A novel protocol for the facile synthesis of chiral 3-substituted 1,3,4,5-tetrahydrobenzo[e] [1,4]diazepin-2-ones via a domino reaction has been developed, which involves a cascade of S(N)2 nucleophilic substitution and copper-catalyzed C-N coupling reactions of a-amino acid amides and orthohalobenzyl halides. This protocol has some merits, such as one-pot process, easy operation, a wide scope of substrates. Furthermore, no heavy racemization occurs during the reaction.

Abstract:A novel phosphine-catalyzed domino reaction of salicyl N-thiophosphinyl imines and allylic carbonates was developed. The allylic carbonate, in this reaction, serves as a new kind of 1,1-dipolar synthon. Abstract:Phosphine-catalyzed divergent [4+3] domino annulations of fluorinated imidoyl chlorides with MBH carbonates were developed. Two classes of perfluoroalkylated benzazepines were obtained in moderate to good yields via an interesting dearomatization/rearomatization sequence. Remarkably, the fluorinated imidoyl chlorides could be utilized for the first time as a new four-atom building block in phosphine catalysis. Moreover, the proposed mechanism is supported by capturing the intermediate.

Abstract:A computational examination of the phosphine-catalyzed domino reaction of α-benzyl allenoate with 5-phenylmethylene thiazolone has been carried out at the SMD(toluene)M06-2X/6-311+G(d,p)//M06-2X/6-31G(d) level. Various possible reaction pathways have been located and compared. Computations show that the preferred mechanism consists of four reaction steps: (I) the nucleophilic attack of phosphine catalyst to α-benzyl allenoate and generation of dienolate intermediate; (II) the nucleophilic conjugate addition to 5-phenylmethylene thiazolone; (III) the intramolecular cyclization, and (IV) the liberation of catalyst. The first step is the rate-determining step with an overall free energy barrier of 29.4 kcal/mol, and the second step is found to be the stereoselectivity-determining step. The predicted high enantioselectivities are in good agreement with the experimental observations. The present study should be useful for understanding this kind of reaction in the future.
