Abstract:The Gromov-Witten invariants of $ {\mathbb{C}}^3 $ with branes is encoded in the topological vertex which has a very complicated combinatorial expression. A simple formula for the topological vertex was proposed by Aganagic et al. in the fermionic picture. We will propose a similar formula for the framed topological vertex and prove it in the case when there are one or two branes.

Abstract:We present a mathematical proof of a conjectural formula due to Aganagic, Dijkgraaf, Klemm, Mariño and Vafa, expressing the topological vertex as a Bogoliubov transform of the fermionic vacuum. In our proof we introduce a boson-fermionic field assignment which generalizes the well-known boson-fermion correspondence. The proof also works for the generalization to the framed topological vertex made by Deng and Zhou. As a consequence, partition functions of toric Calabi-Yau threefolds are related to tau-functions of multi-component KP hierarchy.

Abstract:We outline a proof of a remarkable conjecture of Labastida-Mari{\~n}o-Ooguri-Vafa about certain new algebraic structures of quantum link invariants and the integrality of infinite family of new topological invariants. Our method is based on the cut-and-join analysis and a special rational ring characterizing the structure of the Chern-Simons partition function.

Abstract:We construct a global B-model for any quasi-homogeneous polynomial f that has properties similar to the properties of the physic's B-model on a Calabi-Yau manifold. The main ingredients in our construction are K. Saito's theory of primitive forms and Givental's higher genus reconstruction. More precisely, we consider the moduli space M-mar degrees of the so-called marginal deformations of f . For each point sigma is an element of M-mam degrees mar we introduce the notion of an opposite subspace in the twisted de Rham cohomology of the corresponding singularity f(sigma) and prove that opposite subspaces are in one-to-one correspondence with the splittings of the Hodge structure in the vanishing cohomology of f(sigma). Therefore, according to M. Saito, an opposite subspace gives rise to a semi-simple Frobenius structure on the space of miniversal deformations of f(sigma). Using Givental's higher genus reconstruction we define a total ancestor potential A(sigma) ((h) over bar, q) whose properties can be described quite elegantly in terms of the properties of the corresponding opposite subspace. For example, if the opposite subspace corresponds to the splitting of the Hodge structure given by complex conjugation, then the total ancestor potential is monodromy invariant and it satisfies the BCOV holomorphic anomaly equations. The coefficients of the total ancestor potential could be viewed as quasi-modular forms on M-Mar degrees in a certain generalized sense. As an application of our construction, we consider the case of a Fermat polynomial W that defines a Calabi-Yau hypersurface X-w in a weighted-projective space. We have constructed two opposite subspaces and proved that the corresponding total ancestor potentials can be identified with respectively the total ancestor potential of the orbifold quotient X-W/(G) over tilde (W) and the total ancestor potential of FJRW invariants corresponding to (W, G(W)). Here G(W) is the maximal group of diagonal symmetries of W and (G) over tilde (W) is a quotient of G(W) by the subgroup of those elements that act trivially on X-W. In particular, our result establishes the so-called Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for the pair (W, G(W)).

Abstract:The theory of the topological vertex was originally proposed by Aganagic, Klemm, Mariño and Vafa as a means to calculate open Gromov-Witten invariants of toric Calabi-Yau threefolds. In this paper, we place the topological vertex within the context of relative Gromov-Witten invariants of log Calabi-Yau manifolds and describe how these invariants can be effectively computed via a gluing formula for the enumeration of tropical curves in a singular integral affine space. This richer context allows us to prove that the topological vertex possesses certain tropical symmetries. These symmetries are captured by the action of a quantum torus Lie algebra that is related to a quantisation of the Lie algebra of the tropical vertex group of Gross, Pandharipande and Siebert. Finally, we demonstrate how this algebra of symmetries leads to an explicit description of the topological vertex and related Gromov-Witten invariants.

Abstract:We introduce a deformed topological vertex and use it to define deformations of the topological string partition functions of some local Calabi-Yau geometries. We also work out some examples for which such deformations satisfy a deformed Gopakumar-Vafa integrality and can be identified with the equivariant indices of some naturally defined bundles on the framed moduli spaces.

Abstract:For any finite abelian group G, the equivariant Gromov-Witten invariants of C^r/G can be viewed as a certain kind of abelian Hurwitz-Hodge integrals. In this note, we use Tseng's orbifold quantum Riemann-Roch theorem to express this kind of abelian Hurwitz-Hodge integrals as a sum over Feynman graphs, where the weight of each graph is expressed in terms of descendant integrals over moduli spaces of stable curves and representations of G. This expression will play a crucial role in the proof of the remodeling conjecture (arXiv:0709.1453, arXiv:0807.0597) for affine toric Calabi-Yau 3-orbifolds in arXiv:1310.4818.
Structure of Higher Genus Gromov-Witten Invariants of Quintic 3-folds

Abstract:There is a set of remarkable physical predictions for the structure of BCOVu0027s higher genus B-model of mirror quintic 3-folds which can be viewed as conjectures for the Gromov-Witten theory of quintic 3-folds. They are (i) Yamaguchi--Yauu0027s finite generation, (ii) the holomorphic anomaly equation, (iii) the orbifold regularity and (iv) the conifold gap condition. Moreover, these properties are expected to be universal properties for all the Calabi-Yau 3-folds. This article is devoted to proving first three conjectures. The main geometric input to our proof is a log GLSM moduli space and the comparison formula between its reduced virtual cycle (reproducing Gromov--Witten invariants of quintic 3-folds) and its nonreduced virtual cycle. Our starting point is a Combinatorial Structural Theorem expressing the Gromov-Witten cohomological field theory as an action of a generalized $R$-matrix in the sense of Givental. An $R$-matrix computation implies a graded finite generation property. Our graded finite generation implies Yamaguchi-Yauu0027s (nongraded) finite generation, as well as the orbifold regularity. By differentiating the Combinatorial Structural Theorem carefully, we derive the holomorphic anomaly equations. Our technique is purely A-model theoretic and does not assume any knowledge of B-model. Finally, above structural theorems hold for a family of theories (the extended quintic family) including the theory of quintic as a special case.

Abstract:In this paper we propose a definition of torsion refined Gopakumar–Vafa (GV) invariants for Calabi–Yau threefolds with terminal nodal singularities that do not admit Kähler crepant resolutions. Physically, the refinement takes into account the charge of five-dimensional BPS states under a discrete gauge symmetry in M-theory. We propose a mathematical definition of the invariants in terms of the geometry of all non-Kähler crepant resolutions taken together. The invariants are encoded in the A-model topological string partition functions associated to non-commutative (nc) resolutions of the Calabi–Yau. Our main example will be a singular degeneration of the generic Calabi–Yau double cover of and leads to an enumerative interpretation of the topological string partition function of a hybrid Landau–Ginzburg model. Our results generalize a recent physical proposal made in the context of torus fibered Calabi–Yau manifolds by one of the authors and clarify the associated enumerative geometry.

Abstract:We present an orbifold topological vertex formalism for PT invariants of toric Calabi-Yau 3-orbifolds with transverse $A_{n-1}$ singularities. We give a proof of the orbifold DT/PT Calabi-Yau topological vertex correspondence. As an application, we derive an explicit formula for the PT $\mathbb{Z}_{n}$-vertex in terms of loop Schur functions and prove the multi-regular orbifold DT/PT correspondence.

Abstract:We study gapped boundaries characterized by “fermionic condensates” in 2+1 d topological order. Mathematically, each of these condensates can be described by a super commutative Frobenius algebra. We systematically obtain the species of excitations at the gapped boundary/junctions, and study their endomorphisms (ability to trap a Majorana fermion) and fusion rules, and generalized the defect Verlinde formula to a twisted version. We illustrate these results with explicit examples. We also connect these results with topological defects in super modular invariant CFTs. To render our discussion self-contained, we provide a pedagogical review of relevant mathematical results, so that physicists without prior experience in tensor category should be able to pick them up and apply them readily.
Universal Topological Data for Gapped Quantum Liquids in Three Dimensions and Fusion Algebra for Non-Abelian String Excitations

Abstract:Recently we conjectured that a certain set of universal topological quantities characterize topological order in any dimension. Those quantities can be extracted from the universal overlap of the ground state wave functions. For systems with gapped boundaries, these quantities are representations of the mapping class group $MCG(\mathcal M)$ of the space manifold $\mathcal M$ on which the systems lives. We will here consider simple examples in three dimensions and give physical interpretation of these quantities, related to fusion algebra and statistics of particle and string excitations. In particular, we will consider dimensional reduction from 3+1D to 2+1D, and show how the induced 2+1D topological data contains information on the fusion and the braiding of non-Abelian string excitations in 3D. These universal quantities generalize the well-known modular $S$ and $T$ matrices to any dimension.

Abstract:By exploiting new mathematical relations between Pandharipande-Thomas (PT) invariants, closely related to Gopakumar-Vafa (GV) invariants, and rank 0 Donaldson-Thomas (DT) invariants counting D4-D2-D0 BPS bound states, we rigorously compute the first few terms in the generating series of Abelian D4-D2-D0 indices for compact one-parameter Calabi-Yau threefolds of hypergeometric type. In all cases where GV invariants can be computed to sufficiently high genus, we find striking confirmation that the generating series is modular, and predict infinite series of Abelian D4-D2-D0 indices. Conversely, we use these results to provide new constraints for the direct integration method, which allows to compute GV invariants (and therefore the topological string partition function) to higher genus than hitherto possible. The triangle of relations between GV/PT/DT invariants is powered by a new explicit formula relating PT and rank 0 DT invariants, which is proven in an Appendix by the second named author. As a corollary, we obtain rigorous Castelnuovo-type bounds for PT and GV invariants for CY threefolds with Picard rank one.

Abstract:In this paper we prove a mirror symmetry conjecture based on the work of Brini et al. (Ann Henri Poincaŕe 13(8):1873–1910, 2012) and Diaconescu et al. (Commun Math Phys 319(3):813–863, 2013). This conjecture relates open Gromov–Witten invariants of the conifold transition of a torus knot to the topological recursion on the B-model spectral curve.

Abstract:A bstract We make a proposal for calculating refined Gopakumar-Vafa numbers (GVN) on elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau 3-folds based on refined holomorphic anomaly equations. The key examples are smooth elliptic fibrations over (almost) Fano surfaces. We include a detailed review of existing mathematical methods towards defining and calculating the (unrefined) Gopakumar-Vafa invariants (GVI) and the GVNs on compact Calabi-Yau 3-folds using moduli of stable sheaves, in a language that should be accessible to physicists. In particular, we discuss the dependence of the GVNs on the complex structure moduli and on the choice of an orientation. We calculate the GVNs in many instances and compare the B-model predictions with the geometric calculations. We also derive the modular anomaly equations from the holomorphic anomaly equations by analyzing the quasi-modular properties of the propagators. We speculate about the physical relevance of the mathematical choices that can be made for the orientation.

Abstract:We consider the boundary dual of AdS3xS3xK3 for NS5-flux Q5=1, which is described by a sigma model with target space given by the d-fold symmetric product of K3. Building on results in algebraic geometry, we address the problem of deforming it away from the orbifold point from the viewpoint of topological strings. We propose how the 't Hooft expansion can be geometrized in terms of Gromov-Witten invariants and, in favorable settings, how it can be summed up to all orders in closed form. We consider an explicit example in detail for which we discuss the genus expansion around the orbifold point, as well as the divergence in the strong coupling regime. We find that within the domain of convergence, scale separation does not occur. However, in order for the mathematical framework to be applicable in the first place, we need to consider "reduced" Gromov-Witten invariants that fit, as we argue, naturally to topologically twisted N=4 strings. There are some caveats and thus to what extent this toy model captures the physics of strings on AdS3xS3xK3 remains to be seen.

Non-perturbative topological strings from resurgence

Abstract:The partition function of topological string theory on any family of Calabi-Yau threefolds is defined perturbatively as an asymptotic series in the topological string coupling and encodes, in a holomorphic limit, higher genus Gromov-Witten as well as Gopakumar-Vafa invariants. We prove that the partition function of topological strings of any CY in this limit can be written as a product, where each factor is given by the partition function of the resolved conifold with shifted arguments, raised to the power of certain sheaf invariants. We use this result to put forward an expression for the non-perturbative topological string partition function in this limit, as a product over analytic functions in the topological string coupling which correspond to the Borel sums for the resolved conifold found previously. The non-perturbative corrections to the partition function are identified with Stokes jumps of a Borel summation. They depend only on genus zero GV invariants and can be expressed entirely in terms of a single function which is introduced as a deformation of the prepotential.
