Abstract:In this paper, we present explicit expressions for the Moore-Penrose inverse of the perturbation matrix under the rank condition in the real field. Then we estimate the error between Moore-Penrose inverse and dual Moore-Penrose generalized inverse (DMPGI) and obtain an upper bound of the error. Furthermore, we discuss the above results under several special conditions.

Abstract:Let H and K be Hilbert spaces and let T, (T) over tilde = T + delta T be bounded operators from H into K. In this article, two facts related to the perturbation bounds are studied. The first one is to find the upper bound of parallel to(T) over tilde (+) - T+parallel to, which extends the results obtained by the second author and enriches the perturbation theory for the Moore-Penrose inverse. The other one is to develop explicit representations of projectors parallel to(T) over tilde(T) over tilde (+) - TT+parallel to and parallel to(T) over tilde (+)(T) over tilde - T+T parallel to . In addition, some spectral cases related to these results are analyzed.

Abstract:In this paper, we define the Moore-Penrose inverse of tensors with the Einstein product, and the explicit formulas of the Moore-Penrose inverse of some block tensors are obtained. The general solutions of some multilinear systems are given and we also give the minimum-norm least-square solution of some multilinear systems using the Moore-Penrose inverse of tensors.

Abstract:The paper aims to play an expository role, providing a tailored introduction to the theory of matrix generalized inverses determined by the so-called Penrose equations, with the Moore--Penrose inverse as the jewel in the crown. The tailoring is made taking into account applicability of the inverses to solvability of a system of linear equations, which covers, inter alia, the least squares method. The method is introduced in a formal, though compendious way, with an intention to support researchers who want to consciously utilize it in their investigations. Additionally, the paper points out various links between the generalized inverses and theory of projectors, indicating issues which are relevant from the perspective of physics. The article can be viewed as a sequel of [O.M. Baksalary and G. Trenkler, ``The Moore--Penrose inverse -- a hundred years on a frontline of physics research,'' Eur. Phys. J. H {\bf 46}, 9 (2021)], the paper prepared to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first definition of the Moore--Penrose inverse, which shades a spotlight on the role the inverse plays in physics.

Abstract:Moore–Penrose inverse emerges in statistics, neural networks, machine learning, applied physics, numerical analysis, tensor computations, solving systems of linear equations and in many other disciplines. Especially after the 2000s, the topic of Moore–Penrose inverse has started to attract great attention by researchers and has become a popular subject. In this paper, we investigate the Moore–Penrose inverse of the conditional matrices via convolution product formula. In order to use convolution formula effectively, we derive some useful identities by using some properties of the generalized conditional sequence. Moreover, we express the Moore–Penrose inverse of the conditional matrices in the form of block matrices. Finally, we not only present more general results compared to earlier works, but also provide many novel results using analytical techniques.

Abstract:The aim of this work is to characterize linear maps of infinite-dimensional inner product spaces where the Moore-Penrose inverse exists. This MP inverse generalizes the well-known Moore-Penrose inverse of a matrix $A\in \text{Mat}_{n\times m} ({\mathbb C})$. Moreover, a method for the computation of the MP inverse of some endomorphisms on infinite-dimensional vector spaces is given. As an application, the least norm solution of an infinite linear system from the Moore-Penrose inverse offered is studied.

Abstract:Expressions which include the Moore-Penrose (MP) inverse with various generalized inverses have been popular topic in numerical linear algebra. The most general case was the combination of the MP inverse with outer inverses A(R(B),N(C))((2)) , knownas thecomposite outer inverses. Starting from well-known and useful Urquhart representation of generalized inverses, in this research we consider Phi(1)-composite outer inverses which are based on the replacements of A(R(B),N(C))((2)) bythemoregeneralexpressions Phi(1) := B(CAB)C-(1). Algorithms for symbolic and numeric computation of Phi(1)-composite outer inverses are proposed and corresponding examples are developed. Abstract:This is the first paper of a two-long series in which we study linear generalized inverses that minimize matrix norms. Such generalized inverses are famously represented by the Moore-Penrose pseudoinverse (MPP) which happens to minimize the Frobenius norm. Freeing up the degrees of freedom associated with Frobenius optimality enables us to promote other interesting properties. In this Part I, we look at the basic properties of norm-minimizing generalized inverses, especially in terms of uniqueness and relation to the MPP. We first show that the MPP minimizes many norms beyond those unitarily invariant, thus further bolstering its role as a robust choice in many situations. We then concentrate on some norms which are generally not minimized by the MPP, but whose minimization is relevant for linear inverse problems and sparse representations. In particular, we look at mixed norms and the induced $\ell^p \rightarrow \ell^q$ norms. An interesting representative is the sparse pseudoinverse which we study in much more detail in Part II. Next, we shift attention from norms to matrices with interesting behaviors. We exhibit a class whose generalized inverse is always the MPP-even for norms that normally result in different inverses-and a class for which many generalized inverses coincide, but not with the MPP. Finally, we discuss efficient computation of norm-minimizing generalized inverses.

Abstract:Inversion of operators is a fundamental concept in data processing. Inversion of linear operators is well studied, supported by established theory. When an inverse either does not exist or is not unique, generalized inverses are used. Most notable is the Moore-Penrose inverse, widely used in physics, statistics, and various fields of engineering. This work investigates generalized inversion of nonlinear operators. We first address broadly the desired properties of generalized inverses, guided by the Moore-Penrose axioms. We define the notion for general sets, and then a refinement, termed pseudo-inverse, for normed spaces. We present conditions for existence and uniqueness of a pseudo-inverse and establish theoretical results investigating its properties, such as continuity, its value for operator compositions and projection operators, and others. Analytic expressions are given for the pseudo-inverse of some well-known, non-invertible, nonlinear operators, such as hard- or soft-thresholding and ReLU. We analyze a neural layer and discuss relations to wavelet thresholding. Next, the Drazin inverse, and a relaxation, are investigated for operators with equal domain and range. We present scenarios where inversion is expressible as a linear combination of forward applications of the operator. Such scenarios arise for classes of nonlinear operators with vanishing polynomials, similar to the minimal or characteristic polynomials for matrices. Inversion using forward applications may facilitate the development of new efficient algorithms for approximating generalized inversion of complex nonlinear operators.

Abstract:We study the Moore–Penrose inverse of perturbations by a proper symmetrically-normed ideal of a closed range operator on a Hilbert space. We show that the notion of essential codimension of projections gives a characterization of subsets of such perturbations in which the Moore–Penrose inverse is continuous with respect to the metric induced by the operator ideal. These subsets are maximal satisfying the continuity property, and they carry the structure of real analytic Banach manifolds, which are acted upon transitively by the Banach–Lie group consisting of invertible operators associated with the ideal. This geometric construction allows us to prove that the Moore–Penrose inverse is indeed a real bianalytic map between infinite-dimensional manifolds. We use these results to study the polar decomposition of closed range operators from a similar geometric perspective. At this point we prove that operator monotone functions are real analytic in the norm of any proper symmetrically-normed ideal. Finally, we show that the maps defined by the operator modulus and the polar factor in the polar decomposition of closed range operators are real analytic fiber bundles.

Abstract:The theory of generalized inverses of matrices and operators is closely connected with projections, i.e., idempotent (bounded) linear transformations. We show that a similar situation occurs in any associative ring $\mathcal{R}$ with a unit $1 \neq 0$. We prove that generalized inverses in $\mathcal{R}$ are related to idempotent group endomorphisms $\rho: \mathcal{R} \rightarrow \mathcal{R}$, called projectors. We use these relations to give characterizations and existence conditions for $\{1\}$, $\{2\}$, and $\{1,2\}$ inverses with any given principal/annihilator ideals. As a consequence, we obtain sufficient conditions for any right/left ideal of $\mathcal{R}$ to be a principal or an annihilator ideal of an idempotent element of $\mathcal{R}$. We then study some particular generalized inverses: Drazin and $(b,c)$ inverses, and in rings with involution, $(e,f)$ Moore-Penrose, $e$-core, $f$-dual core, $w$-core, $v$-dual core, right $w$-core, left $v$-dual core, and $(p,q)$ inverses.
