Abstract:ArA, EPA and DHA are main components of lecithin in ovary, phosphatidylethanolamine in sperm and oocyte , and so on . They can affect spawning, fecundation, diameter of ovum 、 volume of yolk sac 、hatch and survival, et al. These three required fatty acids are also important in cytoarchitecture, metabolism of substance and regulation of energy, so they can accelerate growth of aquatic animals by maintaining the permeability between cells and improving the activity of digestive enzymes; ArA, EPA and DHA also can affect phagocytic and respirtory burst activities, and improve the immunity ability of aquatic animals by controlling enzymatic activity correlative to immunity and the production of eicosanoid; ArA can improve resistance to diversified stress of aquatic animals by adjusting cortisol and other unknown approaches. These three kinds of fatty acids can greatly affect the aquatic animals, and this article reviews their effect on growth, propagation, immunologic function and resistance to stress, but also introduces the relationship between them, expecting to provide useful references for aquaculture.

Abstract:As an important aquaculture species, improving the immunity of cultured Apostichopus japonicus (A. japonicus) is vital for its health in aquaculture farming. It has been shown that ARA is an important metabolite for A. japonicus infected by Vibrio splendidus. In this study, we aimed to determine the effects of dietary exogenous ARA on healthy sea cucumber cultures, including assessments of immunity, growth, and fatty acid content. Five experimental diets containing 0.01%, 0.29%, 0.46%, 0.70%, and 1.09% ARA were tested. The specific growth rate (SGR) of sea cucumbers did not be significantly affected by exogenous ARA diet groups. The results showed that dietary ARA between 0.49 and 1.09% notably improved the survival rate of sea cucumbers infected by Vibrio splendidus compared with the control group without exogenous ARA. The results also showed the effects of dietary ARA on immune-related genes, enzymes, and oxidation indices; most of the exogenous ARA significantly upregulated the mRNA expression of the genes NFκB, TLR, TLR3, TRAF6, Toll, and MyD88. The activities of ACP, AKP, and lysozyme increased in the 0.49–1.09% ARA groups, especially the dietary 0.49% ARA group. The SOD1 and NOS activities were enhanced by dietary ARA between 0.29 and 0.70%. Compared with the control, the MDA content increased, but the 0.49% ARA-diet group had a lower MDA content. Based on these data, 0.49–0.70% ARA significantly enhanced immunity in cultured A. japonicus. Exogenous 0.49% and 0.70% ARA also elevated the ARA, total PUFA and n-6 PUFA in the body walls. In conclusion, the appropriate exogenous ARA (0.49%–0.70%) in diets could improve immunity and fatty acid content considerably. The results provide basic evidence that ARA can serve a useful immune enhancer for A. japonicus aquaculture.

Abstract:An 22-week feeding trial was performed to evaluate the effects of dietary arachidonic acid (ARA) on the growth performance, tissue fatty acid, ARA metabolites, sex steroid hormones and steroidogenesis-related gene expression in F-2 generation Chinese sturgeon. Four diets with different ARA levels (0.0 %, 0.5 %, 1.0 % and 2.0 % in the diets) were formulated. The results showed that dietary ARA did not affect final body weight (FBW), weight gain rate (WGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), survival rate (SR), hepatosomatic index (HSI), viscer-osomatic index (VSI), condition factor (CF) and gonadalsomatic index (GSI) (P > 0.05), while tissue ARA deposition was significantly effected by the dietary ARA (P < 0.05). In the ovary and liver, the metabolites of prostaglandin E-2 (PGE(2)) and 5-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (5-HETE) increased significantly with increasing dietary ARA (P < 0.05). In the muscle, the contents of the two metabolites in the 1.0 % ARA diet were significantly higher than that the 0.0 % and 2.0 % ARA diets (P < 0.05). Significantly decreased liver and ovary estradiol (E2), testosterone (T) levels were found in the 0.0 % ARA diet compared with 2.0 % ARA diet (P < 0.05). In the ovary and liver, the contents of vitellogen (Vtg) increased significantly with increasing dietary ARA (P < 0.05). E-2 and Vtg contents in the serum of fish fed the 1.0 % ARA diet were significantly higher than the 0.0 % ARA diet (P < 0.05). These results indicated that dietary ARA did not affect growth, but ARA levels greater than 1 % in the diets plays vital roles in the ARA deposition, metabolism, steroid regulation and Vtg synthesis in F-2 generation female Chinese sturgeon. The best efficiency was achieved 1 % ARA, based on roles or cost effective, which were beneficial to promote ovary development.

Abstract:In order to basically figure out the metabolism and demand on the fatty acids of rice field eel,Monopterus albus Zuiew,and provide a frame of reference on selective using different lipid sources for rice diets production of field eel,six isonitrogenous(44% crude protein) and isoenergetic(19.4 MJ/kg) experimental diets were formulated by using six different lipid sources:fish oil(FO),soybean oil(SO),and linseed oil(LO),ARA + peanut oil(APO),peanut oil(PO) and pork lard(PL).Female rice field eels(initial weight of 15.5 g) were fed with these diets for 10 weeks.The fats and fatty acid compositions in the muscle liver and ovary of these eels were analyzed by means of chloroform-methanol and gas chromatography(GC) and the growth performance were evaluated with the parameter of specific growth rate(SGR).The results showed that there were effects of different lipid sources on the growth performance of rice field eels.The SGR of rice field eels fed with PO without n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFAs) was significantly lower than those fed with SO and FO(P<0.05);the specific growth rate(SGR) of rice field eels fed with SO was significantly higher than those fed with LO,APO,PO and PL,except FO(P<0.05).There were positive linear correlation between the content both 18:3n-3 and 18:2n-6 in the various tissues of rice field eels and those in experimental diets.When the experiment diets were lack of eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA,20:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic acid(DHA,22:6n-3),there were positive logarithmic correlation between the content of EPA,DHA in ovaries and the content of 18:3n-3 in diets;while the ex-perimental diets were lack of Arachidonic acid(ARA,20:4n-6),there were positive linear correlation between the con-tent of ARA in muscle,liver and ovary and the content of 18:2n-6 in diets.The content of EPA and DHA in the various tissues of the rice field eels fed with diet(FO) with EPA and DHA were significantly higher than those of the rice field eels fed diets(LO,SO,PL,PO) without EPA and DHA(P<0.05).In general,the n-3PUFAs and appropriate n-6/n-3 ratio were important for the growth of rice field eels.Soybean oil,linseed oil and pork lard were feasible lipid resources for replace fish oil on growth of rice field eels and soybean oil is preferable lipid resources.The fatty acid(18:2n-6,18:3n-3,ARA,EPA and DHA) profiles of liver,muscle and ovary reflected profiles of the corresponding dietary lipid sources.The rice field eel only possess the infirmatory ability to synthesize EPA and DHA from linolenic acid(18:3n-3) and ARA from linoleic acid(18:2n-6) for the limitation in the capacity of fatty acid desaturation.

Abstract:A 93-day feeding trial was performed to evaluate the effects of dietary arachidonic acid (ARA) on the growth performance, antioxidative capacity, immunity and anti-stress capacity of juvenile abalone Haliotis discus hannai Ino with an initial mean body weight of 4.26 & PLUSMN; 0.11 g. Six practical diets with 0.04% (the control), 0.31%, 0.44%, 0.68%, 0.94% and 1.34% of ARA were designed. After the feeding trial, abalones were subjected to a heat stress test. The findings showed that the survival of abalone (91.7-96.7%) after the feeding trial was not significantly influenced by dietary ARA. The 0.31-0.44% of dietary ARA significantly increased the weight gain rate (WGR). The feed conversion ratio (FCR) was decreased by 0.31-0.68% of dietary ARA. The 0.44% of dietary ARA significantly enhanced the activity of trypsin, lipase and & alpha;-amylase in the intestine. Besides, dietary ARA supplementation significantly elevated the total antioxidative capacity and activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase and lysozyme in the cell-free hemolymph. Higher levels of dietary ARA (& GE;0.94%) significantly upregulated the mRNA levels of nuclear factor & kappa;B, inhibitor of & kappa;B & alpha; and transcription factor AP-1 in the digestive gland. The 0.68% of dietary ARA significantly decreased the falling rate of abalone after heat stress. In conclusion, appropriate dietary ARA levels improved the growth performance and feed utilization of abalone. The optimal dietary ARA content for juvenile abalone was 0.52% based on the quadratic regression analysis of WGR. The 0.44-0.68% of dietary ARA improved the antioxidative capacity, immunity and anti-heat stress of abalone.

Abstract:Arachidonic acid (ARA) is becoming increasingly important due to significant reductions in fishmeal (FM) and fish oil (FO), the primary sources of ARA, in aquafeeds. ARA is an essential omega-6 fatty acid in some fish species and plays a wide range of physiological roles. However, studies reported to date have demonstrated contrasting findings concerning the effects of ARA in fish growth and health, regardless of the fish's trophic level. Additionally, limited research has addressed energy allocation during reproduction and growth in sub-adult rainbow trout as they approach reproductive maturity. Therefore, a study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different levels of ARA on growth performance, the fatty acid composition of whole-body and ovary, intestinal inflammatory gene expression, gut histology, antioxidant activity, and non-specific immunity in sub-adult rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ). Four isonitrogenous (51% crude protein), isolipidic (15% crude lipid), and isocaloric (23 MJ/kg) diets were formulated and supplemented with ARA-enriched oil (40%), resulting in analyzed ARA levels of 0.10 (ARA 0.10 ), 3.95 (ARA 3.95 ), 7.67 ARA( 7.67 ), and 14.8% (ARA 14.8 ) of total fatty acid, respectively. Rainbow trout (307 ± 3.64 g) were fed to apparent satiation three times a day for 12 weeks to assess growth performance, feed utilization, and intestinal inflammatory response. The fish were then exposed to acute stress to evaluate circulating cortisol, prostaglandin E 2 , antioxidant activity, and non-specific immune response. The 12-week growth trial demonstrated that dietary ARA did not affect rainbow trout growth performance and feed utilization during the final grow-out. Whole-body fatty acid profiles reflected those of the diets except for eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) content being significantly lower in the ARA 14.8 group than in the ARA 0.10 and ARA 3.95 groups. EPA and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) contents in the ovary were less affected by dietary ARA supplementation, likely reflecting the selective deposition of those fatty acids in embryonic development. The expression of tnf-α was significantly downregulated in ARA 7.67 and ARA 14.8 groups relative to other treatment groups, and only distal intestinal villus height was significantly increased in the ARA 3.95 group, suggesting that dietary ARA supported intestinal health. Plasma superoxide dismutase, catalase, and lysozyme activity significantly increased in both pre- and post-stress groups due to incremental increases in dietary ARA. These results suggest that a moderate level of dietary ARA in low FM and FO-free enhances innate immune function and antioxidant responses while supporting intestinal health in sub-adult rainbow trout.

Abstract:A 12-week feeding trial was conducted to determine the effect of dietary arachidonic acid (ARA) levels on growth performance, feed utilization, muscle fatty acid composition and body proximate composition for juvenile Chinese mitten crab, Eriocheir sinensis. Six semi-purified diets containing 0.11% (control group, G1), 1.20% (G2), 2.37% (G3), 3.52% (G4), 4.76% (G5) and 7.39% (G6) ARA of total lipid content were formulated to feed six groups of crabs (the initial weight, 1.01 ± 0.12 g), respectively. Crabs in G3 showed the highest final weight, weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR). The highest feed conversion ratio (FCR) was found in crabs in G1. In addition, the fatty acid composition of muscle was significantly affected by dietary ARA levels. For ARA, 22:2 and 20:5n-3, with the dietary ARA level increased, their contents increased first and then decreased, the highest values were all found in crabs of G4. High dietary ARA significantly affected the fatty acid composition of muscle in E. sinensis by increasing the relative expression of Srebp, while decreasing the relative expression of FAS, FAD 6 and ELOVL 6. Based on the results of the quadratic regression analysis of SGR and FCR, the optimum level of ARA for E. sinensis was suggested to be 4.54% and 3.88% of total lipid content, respectively.
Dietary arachidonic acid decreases the expression of transcripts related to adipocyte development and chronic inflammation in the adipose tissue of juvenile grass carp, Ctenopharyngodon idella

Abstract:Overdevelopment of adipose tissue in cultured fish is one of the biggest issues plaguing current aquaculture industry, leading to unhealthy status of fishes and production losses. Diet supplemented with 0.30% arachidonic acid (ARA) has been found to reduce adipogenesis and inflammation in grass carp, but the potential mechanism is not comprehensively understood. To fully reveal the effects of dietary ARA on the mRNA profiles of adipose tissue, transcriptome techniques were applied in this study. A 10-weeks feeding experiment was performed using two isonitrogenous and isoenergetic purified diets, namely ARA-free (control) and 0.30% ARA (ARA group). Results showed increased ARA content and decreased intraperitoneal fat index and adipocyte size in the adipose tissue of fish fed ARA (P < 0.05). A total of 611 and 973 genes of the adipose tissue were significantly up-regulated and down-regulated, respectively, in fish fed ARA (P < 0.05). Dietary ARA upregulated LOX pathway but downregulated CYP450 pathway annotated genes expression. A total of 65 cell development annotated genes including 30 adipocyte proliferation, 21 adipocyte differentiation, and 14 cell apoptosis annotated genes were down-regulated in the ARA group. In addition, 19 lipid catabolism annotated genes were increased. The mRNA expression levels of 5 chemokines, 10 cytokines, 26 cytokine and chemokine receptors, 15 cell adhesion, 6 oxidative stress, and 6 angiogenesis annotated genes were all down-regulated in fish fed ARA. Finally, dietary ARA also decreased the expression of transcripts annotated with glucose transportation, glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. Overall, our results demonstrate that dietary ARA has a fat reducing role, and tends to retard adipocyte development and attenuate chronic inflammation based on these adipose transcript expression results in grass carp.

Abstract:A 12-week feeding experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary arachidonic acid (ARA) on growth, survival, immune response and tissue fatty acid composition of juvenile Japanese seabass (Lateolabrax japonicus) (mean initial weight 9.48±0.09g) in seawater floating net cages (1.5×1.5×2.0m). An ARA-enriched oil was supplemented into the basal diet to formulate six isonitrogenous and isoenergetic practical diets containing 0.08% (the control group), 0.22%, 0.36%, 0.56%, 1.33% and 2.12% ARA of dry weight, respectively. All diets had the same total n−3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (LC-PUFA) level and 22:6n−3/20:5n−3 ratio. Triplicate groups of 30 fish were fed to apparent satiation twice daily for 12weeks. The water temperature ranged from 22.5 to 31.5°C, the salinity from 28‰ to 33‰ and the dissolved oxygen content was approximately 6mgl−1 during the experimental period. The results showed that final weight (FW) and specific growth rate (SGR) significantly increased with increasing dietary ARA from 0.08% to 0.36% (P<0.01) and thereafter declined. The feed efficiency ratio (FER) had the similar pattern with SGR, and fish fed the diet with 0.36% ARA showed significantly higher FER than the control (P<0.05). No significant differences were found in survival rate among dietary treatments (P>0.05). The hepatosomatic index (HSI) decreased significantly with the increase of dietary ARA, and HSI in fish fed the diets with more than 0.22% ARA content were significantly lower than the control group (P<0.01). The serum lysozyme (LYZ), alternative complement pathway (ACP) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were significantly enhanced by the supplementation of ARA, especially in moderate supplementation (0.36–0.56%). However, there were no differences in both respiratory burst activity of head kidney macrophage and serum catalase (CAT) activity among dietary treatments. The body composition analysis showed that whole-body protein first increased, then decreased with increasing dietary ARA, while whole-body lipid content followed the opposite pattern. The fatty acid composition of whole body and liver reflected closely those of the diets, while liver EPA levels were inversely related to dietary ARA. These results suggested that dietary ARA, especially moderate ARA level (0.22–0.56% d.w.), significantly enhanced growth and immune response and modified the chemical composition of whole body and liver of Japanese seabass juvenile.

Abstract:10-week dietary arachidonic acid (ARA) feeding trials were conducted in 14-month-old swamp eel (Monopterus albus) to evaluate the effects on growth performance, gonadal development, tissue fatty acid profile, and gene expression related to lipid metabolism. The results showed that swamp eels fed diets supplemented with 1.4% or 2.8% ARA had a significantly higher weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) than those fed the control diet. Dietary supplementation with ARA improved oocyte development and maturation. Higher gonadosomatic index (GSI) was detected in 1.4% and 2.8% ARA groups. ARA supplementation delayed sexual reversal in females. The ARA content in the muscle, liver and gonads increased with increasing dietary ARA concentration; however, ARA supplementation significantly reduced the transcriptional expression of lipid metabolism-related genes in the gonads, such as fad2, pla2g4a, and elovl5. Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels in the ARA 1.4% group were significantly lower than those in the control and ARA 2.8% groups. Total cholesterol (T-CHO) and triglyceride (TG) levels were significantly lower in the 1.4% and 2.8% ARA groups than in the control group. Catalase (CAT) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) increased with dietary ARA concentrations. This study found that dietary ARA is important for improving growth, Ovarian development, and antioxidant capacity in swamp eels.

Abstract:Arachidonic acid is a kind of eicosanoic polyunsaturated fatty acid, which plays a special biological role and enjoys wide applications in pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics. The study of arachidonic acid production by microbial fermentation absorbs many people.The structure, physical and chemical character, metabolism, application and physiological function of arachidonic acid and the progresses in the research field of fermentation were reviewed.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to explore the effects of dietary arachidonic acid on serum fatty acid profile, hepatic antioxidant capacity, and lipid metabolism in pigeon squabs by supplementing arachidonic acid in their parental diets. A completely randomized design was conducted consisting of control group, 0.05% dietary arachidonic acid supplementation group, 0.1% dietary arachidonic acid supplementation group, and 0.2% dietary arachidonic acid supplementation group. Six randomly selected squabs from each group were sampled on Day 21 post-hatch. Results indicated that moderate level (0.05%) of arachidonic acid in parental diets for pigeon squabs improved lipid metabolism via regulation on serum lipid profile and fatty acid composition and tended to reduce hepatic lipid accumulation in the premise of negligible damage to antioxidant status. Unfortunately, excessive parental supplementation of dietary arachidonic acid might be harmful to squab health. The regulatory effects of arachidonic acid were sensitive to the arachidonic acid doses. In conclusion, parental dietary arachidonic acid at 0.05% could be beneficial for squabs to maintain health as reflective aspects in ameliorative serum lipid profile, fatty acid composition, and reduced hepatic lipid accumulation.

Abstract:An 8-week feeding experiment was conducted to determine the effect of dietary arachidonic acid (ARA) levels on growth performance, hepatic intermediary metabolism and antioxidant responses for juvenile Synechogobius hasta. Five isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets were formulated with arachidonic oil (containing 400 g ARA kg-1) at inclusion levels of 0, 2, 4, 8 and 16 g kg-1 to replace corn oil. Dietary ARA levels were 0.6, 8.6, 16.7, 32.7 and 64.8 g kg-1 total fatty acids (FAs), respectively. Fish fed the 8.632.7 g ARA kg-1 total FAs showed the highest weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR) and feed intake. By contrast, feed conversion ratio was the lowest for fish fed the 8.632.7 g ARA kg-1 total FAs. Increasing ARA and total n-6 fatty acid contents and declining linoleic acid content in liver were observed in fish fed the diet containing increasing dietary ARA levels. As a consequence, ?n-6/?n-3 ratios increased with increasing dietary ARA levels. Dietary ARA levels significantly influenced several enzymatic activities involved in hepatic intermediary metabolism, such as succinate dehydrogenase, lactate dehydrogenase, lipoprotein lipase and hepatic lipase. Superoxide dismutase activity increased with increasing dietary ARA levels. Glutathione peroxidase and catalase activities and malondialdehyde levels in liver tended to increase with increasing dietary ARA levels from 0.6 to 32.7 g ARA kg-1 total FAs then declined when dietary ARA levels further increased to 64.8 g ARA kg-1 total FAs. Broken-line regression analysis of SGR against dietary ARA level indicated that optimal dietary ARA requirement for juvenile S. hasta was 10.74 g kg-1 total FAs.

Transcriptome and Lipidomics Profiling of F2 Generation Female Chinese Sturgeon (acipenser Sinensis) in Response to Different Arachidonic Acid Diets

Abstract:Our previous study indicated that dietary arachidonic acid (ARA) inclusion levels higher than 1% in the diet play key roles in ARA deposition, steroid and vitellogenin (Vtg) synthesis in F2 generation female Chinese sturgeon, but the regulatory mechanism remains to be elucidated. As follow-up to our previous study (Aquaculture Reports, 21, 100818), the study further aimed to investigate the possible mechanisms of the effects of dietary ARA promoted steroid hormone synthesis in the ovary by transcriptomics and in the serum by lipidomics. RNA-Seq and lipidomics technology were employed to profile the ovary transcriptome and serum lipidomics after feeding four ARA supplemented diets (named CT, LT, MT and HT), and the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and key differential metabolites were identified. A total of 1018 DEGs, 853 DEGs, 2680 DEGs, 303 DEGs, 1185 DEGs and 409 DEGs were identified in the LT versus CT, MT versus CT, HT versus CT, MT versus LT, HT versus LT and HT versus MT comparisions, respectively. Gene ontology showed that the DEGS between the ARA-supplemented diet group and the unsupplemented diet group were enriched in regulation of cellular process, development process and reproduction. Pathways concerning steroid hormone biosynthesis and cholesterol biosynthesis in lipid metabolism and ovarian steroidogenesis as well as the nuclear-initiated estrogen signaling pathway in endocrine system were enriched. Furthermore, weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) identified six hub genes that regulate gonad development and cholesterol synthesis, namely, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK14), cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2), heat shock protein 8 (HSPA8), two forkhead boxes (FOXP3 and FOXJ3) and cytochrome P450 sterol 14α-demethylase (CYP51A1). Collectively, the molecular mechanism by which ARA regulates the synthesis of steroids, may be related to enhanced cholesterol ester metabolism and facilitation of steroidogenesis gene transcription, which ultimately benefits ovary development in F2 generation Chinese sturgeon.

Abstract:Arachidonic acid (ARA) plays important roles in regulating lipid metabolism, biological processes and immune response. This study aimed to elucidate the effects of ARA on lipid metabolism and health status of juvenile grass carp. A 60-day feeding experiment was conducted using three isonitrogenous and isoenergetic semi-purified diets containing 0.03% (control group), 0.30%, and 0.60% ARA. The FCR in the 0.30% group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05), and the 0.30% group showed significantly higher protein efficiency compared to the control group. Meanwhile, the IPF ratio in the 0.30% group was significantly lower compared with that in the control group, dietary ARA decreased the fat content in the hepatopancreas, and the whole body lipid content was significantly lower in the 0.30% group than in the other groups (P<0.05). The levels of LA, 18:3n−6, 22:4n−6, total n−6 PUFA and LNA in the hepatopancreas, whole body, kidney and IPF were significantly higher in the ARA groups (P<0.05). The lowest serum ALT and AST activities were found in the 0.30% group, and showed significant difference compared with the 0.60% group (P<0.05). The serum T-chol and LDL-c concentrations were significantly higher in the ARA groups (P<0.05). The serum TNFα and IL-6 concentrations decreased with the increased dietary ARA content and the 0.60% group showed significantly lower TNFα concentration compared with the control group (P<0.05). In the hepatopancreas, the mRNA expression of PPARγ showed significantly lower levels in the ARA groups (P<0.05), whereas in the IPF, the 0.30% group showed significantly lower mRNA expression levels of PPARγ (P<0.05). Both in the hepatopancreas and IPF, the mRNA expression levels of fatty acid synthase (FAS), fatty acid desaturase (FAD) and fatty acid elongase (ELO) were significantly lower in the ARA groups (P<0.05). The mRNA expression of TLR22 and MyD88 in the kidney showed the highest levels in the 0.30% group and the lowest levels in the control group (P<0.05). However, in the hepatopancreas, the ARA groups showed significantly lower mRNA expression levels of these two genes compared to the control group (P<0.05). Overall, the appropriate dietary ARA inclusion (0.30%) effectively suppressed the lipid accumulation and altered the key gene expression of lipid metabolism, improved the health status by decreasing the aminotransferase activities and pro-inflammatory cytokine concentrations in the serum and increased the expression of immune-related gene expression in the kidney of juvenile grass carp.
