Abstract:The propagation of mild singularities for the semilinear model of three-dimensional thermoelasticity is studied. It is shown that the propagation picture of such singularities of the solution to the semilinear model coincides with one of the solutions to the corresponding linear model. As a simple consequence of our method, a similar result for the full semilinear Cauchy problem of one-dimensional thermoelasticity is also presented.

Abstract:The propagation of high order weak singularities for the system of homogeneous thermoelasticity in one space variable is studied by using paralinearization and a new decoupling technique introduced by the author (Microlocal analysis in nonlinear thermoelasticity, to appear). For the linear system, one shows that the nonsmooth initial data for the parabolic part lead to singularities in the hyperbolic part of solutions, even when the initial data for that part are identically zero. Both the Cauchy problem and the problem inside of a domain for the semilinear system are considered. It is shown that the propagation of high order singularities is essentially dominated by the hyperbolic operator in the system of thermoelasticity.

Abstract:By using microlocal analysis, the propagation of weak singularities in Cauchy problems for quasilinear thermoelastic systems in three space variables are investigated. First, paradifferential operators are employed to decouple the quasilinear thermoelastic systems. Second, by investigating the decoupled hyperbolic–parabolic systems and using the classical bootstrap argument, the property of finite propagation speeds of singularities in Cauchy problems for the quasilinear thermoelastic systems is obtained. Finally, it is shown that the microlocal weak singularities for Cauchy problems of the thermoelastic systems are propagated along the null bicharacteristics of the hyperbolic operators.

Abstract:In this paper, the authors study the propagation of singlarities for a semilinear hyperbolic-parabolic coupled system, which comes from the model of thermoelasticity. Both of the Cauchy problem and the problem inside of a domain are considered. We obtain that the microlocal singularities of solutions to the semilinear hyperbolic-parabolic coupled system are propagated along null bicharacteristics of the hyperbolic operator by using the theory of paradifferential operators. Furthermore, for the Cauchy problem of the semilinear coupled system, if the initial data have singularities at the origin, we prove that the solutions have the same order regularity with respect to spatial variables as in hyperbolic problems in the forward characteristic cone issuing from the origin, which improves the previous results for semilinear systems in thermoelasticity.

Abstract:By using the diagonalization method of frequency analysis, propagation of singularities in interior domains for a quasilinear thermoelastic system in three space variables is investigated. First, by using paradifferential and quasidifferential operators, the quasilinear thermoelastic system is microlocally paralinearized and diagonalized. Second, by using the classical bootstrap argument and theories of hyperbolic and parabolic equations, it is proved that singularity in interior domains for the quasilinear thermoelastic system is propagated along a null bicharacteristic of the hyperbolic operator of the coupled system. Meanwhile, the authors also obtain that the time t can have a good regularity as the singularity of the initial data is propagated along the forward light conic of the hyperbolic operator.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the study of the propagation of singularities for semilinear hyperbolic–parabolic coupled systems in thermoelasticity. First, a linear transformation involving pseudodifferential operators for unknowns is introduced to decouple the hyperbolic and the parabolic operators. By using the decoupled system, we obtain that the semilinear system of thermoelasticity has finite speeds for the propagation of singularities. Furthermore, it is proved that the microlocal singularities of solutions to this semilinear hyperbolic–parabolic coupled system are propagated along null bicharacteristics of the hyperbolic operator by using the theory of nonsmooth pseudodifferential operators. Finally, the Cauchy problem for the semilinear system of thermoelasticity is investigated when the initial data have singularities.

Abstract:We consider evolution equations for two classes of generalized anharmonic oscillators and the associated initial value problem in the space of tempered distributions. We prove that the Cauchy problem is well posed in anisotropic Shubin--Sobolev modulation spaces of Hilbert type, and we investigate propagation of suitable notions of singularities.

Abstract:The goal of the paper is to analyse properties of solutions for linear thermoelastic systems of type III in one space variable. Our approach does not use energy methods, it bases on a special diagonalization procedure which is different in different parts of the phase space. This procedure allows to derive explicit representations of solutions. These representations help to prove results for well-posedness of the Cauchy problem, L-p-L-q decay estimates on the conjugate line and results for propagation of singularities. Abstract:The well-posedness, L-p-L-q decay estimates and propagation of singularities of solutions to the Cauchy problems of linear thermoelastic systems of type III in three space variables are studied. Firstly, the thermoelastic system is transformed into an equivalent one of first order in t by some special transformations. Secondly, we obtain the asymptotic behaviors of characteristic roots of the system for higher, middle, and lower frequencies, respectively, by using a diagonalization argument. From the behaviors of characteristics roots and the diagonalization procedure, we conclude the well-posedness, L-p-L-q decay estimates, and the propagation of singularitles of solutions to the Cauchy problem.

Abstract:In this paper, we analyze an abstract thermoelastic system, where the heat conduction follows the Cattaneo law. Zero becomes a spectrum point of the system operator when the coupling and thermal damping parameters of system satisfy specific conditions. We obtain the decay rates of solutions to the system with or without the inertial term. Furthermore, the decay rate of the system without inertial terms is shown to be optimal.

Abstract:This work is dedicated to the study of a linear model arising in thermoelastic rod of homogeneous material. The system is resulting from a coupling of a heat and a wave equation in the interval $(0,1)$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions at the outer endpoints where the parabolic component is degenerating at the end point $x=0$. Two models are considered the first is with weak degeneracy and the second is with strong degeneracy. We aim to study the well-posedness and asymptotic stability of both systems using techniques from the $C_{0}$-semigroup theory and a use a frequency domain approach based on the well-known result of Prüss in order to prove using some multiplier techniques that the energy of classical solutions decays uniformly as time goes to infinity.

Abstract:We study the local classical solvability of the Cauchy problem to the equations of one-dimensional nonlinear thermoelasticity. The governing model is a coupled system of a nonlinear hyperbolic equation for the displacement and a parabolic equation for the temperature of the elastic material. We allow the hyperbolic equation to degenerate at spacial infinity, which results that the coefficients of the coupled system are not uniformly bounded and then the previous methods for the strictly hyperbolic-parabolic coupled systems are invalid. We introduce a suitable weighted norm to establish the local existence and uniqueness of classical solutions by the contraction mapping principle. The existence time T of the solution is independent of the spatial variable.

Abstract:We consider the Cauchy problem for linear and semilinear thermoelastic systems with second sound in one space dimension with discontinuous initial data. Due to Cattaneo’s law, replacing Fourier’s law for heat conduction, the system is strictly hyperbolic. We investigate the behavior of discontinuous solutions as the relaxation parameter tends to zero, which corresponds to a formal convergence of the system to the hyperbolic-parabolic type of classical thermoelasticity. We obtain that the jump of the temperature goes to zero while the jumps of the gradient of the displacement and the spatial derivative of the temperature are propagated along the characteristic curves of the elastic fields when the relaxation parameter vanishes. Moreover, when certain growth conditions are imposed on the nonlinear functions, we deduce that these jumps decay exponentially when the time goes to infinity, more rapidly for small heat conduction coefficient.

Abstract:We study the propagation of singularities in solutions of linear convection equations with spatially heterogeneous nonlocal interactions. A spatially varying nonlocal horizon parameter is adopted in the model, which measures the range of nonlocal interactions. Via heterogeneous localization, this can lead to the seamless coupling of the local and nonlocal models. We are interested in understanding the impact on singularity propagation due to the heterogeneities of the nonlocal horizon and the local and nonlocal transition. We first analytically derive equations to characterize the propagation of different types of singularities for various forms of nonlocal horizon parameters in the nonlocal regime. We then use asymptotically compatible schemes to discretize the equations and carry out numerical simulations to illustrate the propagation patterns in different scenarios.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the study of asymptotic behavior in the propagation and reflection of discontinuous solutions to linear and semilinear thermoelastic equations with second sound in one space variable. When the relaxation parameter goes to zero, we obtain that the jump of temperature vanishes while jumps of elastic waves and heat flux are propagated and reflected with the elastic speeds. Furthermore, it is observed that these jumps decay exponentially when the time goes to infinity, and the decay rates not only depend on the growth rate of the nonlinear source terms and heat conduction coefficient, but also depend on the change rates of speeds of elastic waves.
