Abstract:Two new C31 triterpenes, polysimiaric acid A (1) and B (2) as well as one new clerodane diterpenoid, 16,16-dimethoxy-cleroda-3,13Z-dien-15-oic acid (3), together with six known compounds were isolated from Polyalthia simiarum. Their structures were determined by analysis of 1D and 2D NMR data. Three new compounds were tested for their cytotoxicity against five human tumour cell lines. Compound 3 showed cytotoxic activities against SMMC-7721 with the IC50 value of 22.43 μM.

Abstract:Two new dimeric lindenane-type sesquiterpenoids (1 and 2, named chlorasessilifols A and B, resp.), one new ent-podocarpane-type C17 norditerpenoid (3), and one new ent-torarane-type diterpenoid (4), along with seven known terpenoids, were isolated from the whole plant of Chloranthus sessilifolius. The new structures were established by means of spectroscopic methods and/or observed cotton effects in the circular dichroism spectra. Among the isolates, 3α,7β-dihydroxy-ent-abieta-8,11,13-triene (11) exhibited significant anti-neuroinflammatory activity by inhibiting the nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated murine BV-2 microglial cells, with an IC50 value of 4.3 μM.

Abstract:A phytochemical investigation on the aerial parts of Artemisia giraldii var.longipedunculata led to the isolation of 10 known sesquiterpenes,including 12-hydroxy-a-cyperone (1),1β,6a-dihydroxyeudesma-4(15)-ene (2),carainterol A (3),oplodiol (4),douglanin (5),1α-hydroxyisodauc-4-en-15-al (6),3α,6α-dihydroxybisabola-4,10-diene (7),4a,5β-dihydroxybisabola-2,10-diene (8),opposit-4(15)-ene-1β,7-diol (9),and saniculamoid D (10),respectively.Their structures were elucidated by analysis of the MS and NMR spectroscopic data and comparison with the literature.All the isolates were obtained from A.giraldii var.longipedunculata for the first time,and five of them were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time.Additionally,the 13C NMR data of 1 were fully assigned based on the 2D NMR data for the first time.

Abstract:Two diterpenoids and a few miscellaneous components (one phenethylpropanoid, one flavonoid, and one lignan) were isolated from the MeOH extract of the whole plant of the rare Chloranthaceae plant Chloranthus sessilifolius during a further phytochemical reinvestigation. Based on their spectroscopic data (i.e., IR, UV, 1D/2D NMR, ECD, and HR-ESIMS) and/or comparing with those reported physicochemical data in related literature, the structures were determined to be (3R,5S,6S,95,10S,135)-3,6,13-trihydroxy-ent-abieta-8(14)-en-7-one (1), 3 alpha,15-dihydroxy-13 alpha-methoxy-ent-abieta-8(14)-en-7-one (2), p-coumaroyl-beta-phenethyl amine (3), narigenin trimethyl ether (4), and (3R,4-R,3'R,4'R)-6,6'-dimethoxy-3,4,3',4'-tetrahydro-2H,2H'[3,3]-bichromenyl-4,4'-diol (5). Among them, compound 1 is new, while compounds 3 similar to 5 were isolated from the Chloranthus genus for the first time.

Abstract:A new dimeric guaianolide (8) and a new glaucolide (3), a seco-guaiaretic acid (4), two guaianolides (6 and 7), and five known sesquiterpene lactones (1, 2, 5, 9, and 10) were isolated from the aerial part of Artemisia anomala. Their structures were determined on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic analysis. In addition, their cytotoxic activities against five human cancer cell lines and anti-COX-2 effects in vitro were evaluated.

Abstract:Chloranthus spicatus (Thunb.) Makino (Chloranthaceae) has been used to treat aches, trauma, and bleeding in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Phytochemical investigation of the leaves of this plant led to the isolation an unusual new phenylethanoid diglycoside, spicaoside (1), and a new phenylpropanoid diglycoside, 1-allyl-3-methoxy-4- [apiofuranosyl(1⿿2)-glucopyranosyloxybenzene] (2), along with two known sesquiterpenoid glycosides, chloranoside A (3) and chloranthalactone E 8-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (4). Their structures were established by spectroscopic means. New compounds 1 and 2 showed moderate tyrosinase inhibitory activities with the IC50 value of 15.4μM and 29.1μM. This study represents the first report of glycoside from C. spicatus.

Abstract:Three novel triterpenoids named chinenols A-C (1-3), together with two known compounds, glutin-5-en-3beta-ol (4) and daucosterol (5), were isolated from the aerial part of Helwingia chinensis BATAL. The structures of 1-3 were determined on the basis of their HR-EI-MS, IR, H-1- and C-13-NMR (DEPT), and 2D (HMQC, HMBC, NOESY) data. Compounds 1-3 and 5 showed inhibition activity in an antibacterial assay.

Abstract:The present study is to investigate the chemical constituents from the aerial parts of Artemisia myriantha. The chemical constituents were isolated by column chromatographies over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS and Semi-prep HPLC, and the structures were identified by NMR and MS data. Thirteen known compounds were isolated and identified as: blumenol A (1),(+)-dehydrovomifoliol (2),(+)-3-hydroxy-β-ionone (3),(3R, 6R, 7E)-3-hydroxy-4, 7-megastigmadien-9-one (4),(-)-10-oxo-isodauc-3-en-15-oic acid (5),isoerivanin (6),eudesmafraglaucolide (7), artanomalide A (8),13-acetoxy-3β-hydroxy-germacra-1(10) E,4E,7(11)-trien-12,6α-olide (9),13-acetoxy-3β-tigloyl-germacra-1(10) E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (10),13-acetoxy-3β-(3-methylbutanoyl)-germacra-1(10)E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (11),3,9-diacetoxy-13-hydroxy-1(10), 4, 7(11)-germacratrien-12,6α-olide (12), and 8α-angeloyloxycostunolide (13). Compounds 1-6 and 13 were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and 7-9 and 12 were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compound 8 exhibited selective cytotoxicity against human colon cancer (HCT-8) and human gastric cancer (BGC-823) with IC₅₀ values of 2.33 and 4.53 μmol•L ⁻¹, respectively.

Abstract:The chemical constituents of the leaves and stems of Schisandra plena are described for the first time. This investigation has resulted in the isolation of a new sesquiterpenoid, plenoxide (1). In addition, eleven known compounds, including sesquiterpenoids, coumarins, flavanones, triterpenoids and steroids have also been isolated. The structure and stereochemistry of 1 has been determined on the basis of spectroscopic analysis. Detailed analysis of 2D NMR data led to the conclusion that the chemical shifts of earlier compounds similar to bullatantriol need revision.

Abstract:Three new terpenoids, pubinernoids A-C (1-3), together with six known sesquiterpenoids, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra pubescens var. pubinervis. The structures of the new compounds were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses, including application of 2D-NMR spectroscopic techniques. A plausible formation of the sesquiterpenoid 2 is proposed (Scheme 2), starting from guaianediol (4) as the biogenetic precursor, which was also present in the extract.

Abstract:Schisandra chinensis (Turcz) Baill. is sufficiently well known as a medicinal plant worldwide, which modern research shows has many pharmacological activities such as hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory effect, potent anti-HIV-1 activity, anti-tumor effect, and activity on the central nervous system. With considerable chemical investigation, three new triterpenoids (1–3), together with four known triterpenoids were isolated from the S. chinensis (Turcz) Baill. Their structures were elucidated by 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic analyses, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and high-resolution mass spectroscopy, which were identified as Schisanlactone I (1), Schinalactone D, (2), Schisanlactone J, (3) Kadsuphilactone B (4), Schisanlactone C (5), Schisphendilactone B (6), and Schinchinenlactone A (7). The cytotoxicity of those compounds (1–7) was tested against Hep-G2 cell lines, but no apparent antitumor activity was observed at 50 µg/mL using MTT method.

Abstract:12,15-Epoxy-5alpha H,9beta H-labda-8(17),13-dien-19-oic acid (1) and 14-methoxy-15,16-dinor-5alpha H,9alpha H-labda-13(E),8(17)-dien-12-one (2), two new labdane-type diterpenes, and 1alpha-hydroxy-8,12-epoxyeudesma-4,7,11-triene-6,9-dione (3), one new eudesmane-type sesquiterpene, were isolated from Chloranthus henryi Hemsl, along with two known compounds, 8beta H-eudesma-4(14),7(11)-dien-12,8-olide (4) and 8beta-hydroxyeudesma-4(14),7(11)-dien-12,8-olide (5). Their structures were established by a combination of 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic techniques. The new compounds 2, 3 and the known compound 4 exhibited antitumor activities against Hela and K562 human tumor cell lines.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation on the rhizomes of Homalomena occulta resulted in the isolation of five new sesquiterpenoids, namely cadinane-4β,5α,10α-triol (1), 5(11)-epoxycadinane-4β,5β,10β,11-tetraol (2), bullatantiol-1β-methyl malate (3), 1β,4β,7α-trihydroxyeudesmane-1β-methyl malate (6), and 1β,4α,7-trihydroxyeudes-mane (7), together with five known sesquiterpenoids, bullatantriol (4), acetylbullatantriol (5), 1β,4β,7α-trihydroxyeudesmane (8), 1β,4β,7β-trihydroxyeude-smane (9), and pterodontriol (10). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic evidences, including various 1D and 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS. The structure of 1 was further confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract:Two undescribed protostane triterpenoids, 11‐deoxy‐13(17),15‐dehydro‐alisol B 23‐acetate (2) and alisol S (3), together with 21 known ones (1, 4‐23), were isolated from the dried rhizome of Alisma plantago‐aquatica. Of these compounds, 13(17),15‐Dehydro‐alisol B 23‐acetate (1) and 11‐deoxy‐alisol Q 23‐acetate (2) are two protostane trierpenoids containing conjugated double bonds in the five‐membered ring D that are rarely found from nature resource, while alisol S (3) is a protostane triterpenoid with undescribed tetrahydrofuran moiety linked via C20‐O‐C24 at the side chain. Additionally, compound 18 is a new natural product, and cycloartenol triterpenoid 23 is a non protostane triterpenoid firstly isolated from genus Alisma. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectral analysis of the UV, IR, MS, 1D and 2D NMR, and comparison of the experimental and calculated CD curves.
