A Method for Dynamic Locally Weighting Based on Sequential Quadratic Programming

Abstract:To realize weighting in motion, a method for dynamic locally weighting based on sequential quadratic programming was put forward. The real-time measured signals were defined as numerical time series of measured values and its corresponding symbolic time series of theoretical values was solved by taking the moving force and simply supported beam as weighting physical model. The path between the two time series was extended from Euclidean distance path to dynamic time warping path. The recursive computation mathematical model of the dynamic locally weighting was established via taking the minimum of the square of deviance between the two series along the warping path as the goal. The sequential quadratic programming algorithm was employed to obtain the each moving force by means of solving the constrained nonlinear optimization model. The experimental results prove that the computation precision and calculation efficiency of the method are favorable enough for the practical requirements.

Abstract:Teaching-quality assessment is a significant content in teaching management of universities and colleges. There are some aspects should be improved in teaching-quality assessment that performed by students mainly. Firstly, the assessment content should be much more integrity and couldn't be localized to teachers' level assessment. Secondly, deviation and errors may be produced due to the characteristics difference of courses. And thirdly, the validity and reliability of the assessing data couldn' t be assured. In order to overcome these drawbacks, this paperproposes a new assessment system and introduces a series of methods to guarantee the validity and reliabilty of data for assessment.

Abstract:Based on evaluation vectors derived from single factor and the comprehensive evaluation results of some known typical objects, the sample data is classfied into different kinds, and the weight vector of the multi-factor comprehensive evaluation problem is transformed into the solution of an overdetermined systems, which consist of inconsistent linear equation constituted by the vectors of single factor evaluation and the comprehensive evaluation results. The approximate numerical relationship of the standard sample data from the typical objects is fitted with the least squares method, so that the weight vectors to different kinds of objects for comprehensive evaluation are obtained. A learning and correction way to find a multiple linear weighted synthesis model with minimum number of sub-model for the classification of object is presented. A typical object is employed as the center for every sub-model. In applications, the objects are assigned to that class whose center is closest to the objects firstly, and the evaluation result can be derived by the corresponding sub-model. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by an example.

Abstract:The methods of standard deviations,maximizing deviations,entropy weight and their improved methods were applied to solve the objective weight determination problem of multivariate indexes in performance evaluation.It made the weight determination selection more comprehensive.The conflict of the indexes was introduced to take account of the correlation between indexes.The case study was implemented in VOIP network.The samples used to compute weights were obtained by simulation.Six weight computing methods were compared for selecting more objective weight determination method.The results show that Criteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation(CRITIC) method can get better objective weights.

Abstract:It has been widely reported that in computerized adaptive testing some examinees may get much lower scores than they would normally if an alternative paper-and-pencil version were given. The main purpose of this investigation is to quantitatively reveal the cause for the underestimation phenomenon. The logistic models, including the 1PL, 2PL, and 3PL models, are used to demonstrate our assertions. Our analytical derivation shows that, under the maximum information item selection strategy, if an examinee failed a few items at the beginning of the test, easy but more discriminating items are likely to be administered. Such items are ineffective to move the estimate close to the true θ, unless the test is sufficiently long or a variable-length test is used. Our results also indicate that a certain weighting mechanism is necessary to make the algorithm rely less on the items administered at the beginning of the test.

Abstract:Based on the thoughts of artificial nonnested test,this paper develops a method to direct the choice between different spatial weights.The Monte Carlo simulation results using the structure of the provinces in China as the spatial weights show that the method developed here works well.The values of the spatial parameters,the specification of the models and whether the spatial weights have been row standardized will influence the results of the choice.

Abstract:From assigning the weights of multiple-index correctly, a new method based on minimal deviations and maximal joint-entropy is proposed, in which the weight vectors at different point of views determined by several evaluation method was considered and the whole-warp between the ideal combination of the estimated weight vectors and the combination determined by other methods became minimal. Other hand, the joint-entropy at the multi-indicator vectors the most by choosing the balancing element and the uncertainty at the overall situation was the least in this method. Thus, the optimization model about the weight vectors combination was constructed. An example is also given to demonstrate the precision and reliability and validity of the method.
The Application and Comparison of Different Nonlinear Fit Methods

Abstract:We used three different methods, that is, the curve linearization method, nonlinear least square method and the approximate nonlinear method, to analyze the same statistical problem and gave a comparison of these three methods. The regression model is proved of statistical significance by variance analysis, and the fitting effect is described quantitatively by determinant coefficient R2. The results suggest that the nonlinear least square method and the approximate nonlinear method can fit the curve perfectly and possess the similar determinant coefficient while the curve linearization method leads to a relatively worse result.

Abstract:A new soft sensor based on nonlinear principal component analysis (PCA)is developed.A three-layer feed-forward neural network model is established to approximate the relationship between the scores of the nonlinear principal components and the estimated variable.The proposed method is applied on an industrial crude oil atmospheric distillation tower and illustrated by comparisons with other familiar methods.The results show that the proposed method gives a better performance over the conventional PCA method and neural network method.

Abstract:Objective:To determine the weight of nursing quality evaluation index of nursing simulation teach-ing,and to provide the basis and direction of teaching reform for nursing educators.Methods:The analytic hier-archy process(AHP)and the importance assignment mean difference method were used to determine the Saaty scale.The importance matrix was constructed to determine the weight value of the nursing quality evaluation in-dex.Results:There were 5 first-level indicators including simulation instructor,simulation subj ect,simulation activity,simulation scenario,and simulation effect,and their weight values were 0.4109,0.2593,0.1812,0.0960, 0.0527 respectively.The weight values of 14 second-level indicators and 62 third-level indicators were deter-mined at the same time.The single-sort and overall sort of all indicators had a good logical consistency(CR<0.10).Conclusions:The AHP constructed matrix based on the importance assignment of mean difference meth-od was a scientific method and had a good feasibility for determining the weight of the index.The research re-sults played a great significance in the reform of the situation simulation teaching.

Abstract:In the identification of nonlinear system, the system inputs are usually non-uniformly distributed. The approach using orthogonal wavelet networks to resolve the problem is complex. This paper presents two approximative methods based on wavelet grid structure to handle this problem simply and effectively. The advantages of these methods are computationally efficient and easy to use. Finally, nonlinear systems are identified. The results of simulation show that the provided methods are effective and feasible.

Abstract:The assessment methods affecting the causal relation between students ’ evaluation grade of teaching and their per-formance are conducted with causal analysis, and an independent sample t-test of a course’s assessment method grouping is taken. The result shows that a faint correlation is found between students ’ scores and evaluation.The assessment methods of different courses have a significant negative correlation with students ’ evaluation but they have nothing to do with students ’ scores.There-fore, distinguishing students’ evaluation of courses with different assessment methods helps the teaching management department have a correct understanding of teachers’ proficiency and encourages teachers to devote themselves to teaching.
Analysis of Key Indicators in English Teaching Evaluation Based on Big Data Model

Abstract:With the advent of the era of big data, the traditional English teaching methods in the past can no longer accurately assess the comprehensive level of English teachers and classrooms because of various factors. In order to reexamine and plan English teaching content, based on the big data model, we will carefully analyze the key indicators in English teaching evaluation using computer technologies such as particle swarm optimization and support vector machine, hoping to dig out the characteristics of English education in a deeper way, so as to make a series of index adjustments to English classroom and improve English teaching level. The results of this study show the following: (1) The average accuracy of the evaluation index of the model designed in this study is as high as 96.56%; after 20 tests, the test time of this model method is the least, and the test time can be as low as 13.32 ms. (2) For eight first-class indexes of A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H and 29 second-class indexes, the expert scores are all greater than 3.66, and the standard deviation is all less than 1, which accords with the standard of reaching common opinions. The key index test system is reasonable. (3) We find that the weights of A2, D1, H1, and H2 are all higher than 0.5, the weights of A1, B3, C5, E5, F4, and G4 are all higher than 0.3, and the weights of other indexes are all less than 0.3. This shows that each index has a different weight and emphasis on English teaching evaluation. (4) Taking a certain teacher as an example to assess English proficiency can effectively analyze the key indicators of English teachers and enable the teacher to make corresponding improvements and formulate strategies. On the whole, the teacher has strong writing ability and listening ability; the ability of speaking and translating is slightly weak, both of which are about 0.8; for listening analysis, idiom and sentence ability are generally to be enhanced, about 0.8. (5) The comprehensive scoring of English teaching is carried out, large difference in scoring values is avoided, and fairer test results are given. It is found that after big data analysis, the key indicators of English are analyzed accurately, the classroom teaching is diversified, and the students’ final classroom evaluation reflects well, so this method has obvious advantages.

Abstract:The Box--Cox transformation model has been widely applied for many years. The parametric version of this model assumes that the random error follows a parametric distribution, say the normal distribution, and estimates the model parameters using the maximum likelihood method. The semiparametric version assumes that the distribution of the random error is completely unknown; existing methods either need strong assumptions, or are less effective when the distribution of the random error significantly deviates from the normal distribution. We adopt the semiparametric assumption and propose a maximum profile binomial likelihood method. We theoretically establish the joint distribution of the estimators of the model parameters. Through extensive numerical studies, we demonstrate that our method has an advantage over existing methods, especially when the distribution of the random error deviates from the normal distribution. Furthermore, we compare the performance of our method and existing methods on an HIV data set.

Abstract:There are many methods to compute index weight,AHP is one useful and convenient method of them.The paper introduces the main content of weight coefficient computing method based on AHP,and the step of root and sum of two judgement matrix disposal method.After the reasoning of the instance when the judgement matrix meet coherence condition,two conclusions are gained: it doesn't need do coherence verification;the finally weight coefficient is the judgement matrix's any column's unitary result.According to the conclusion and the AHP's principle,the paper discusses a convenient weight coefficient computing method and gives an example of applying.
A Non-Parametric Box-Cox Approach to Robustifying High-Dimensional Linear Hypothesis Testing

Abstract:The mainstream theory of hypothesis testing in high-dimensional regression typically assumes the underlying true model is a low-dimensional linear regression model, yet the Box-Cox transformation is a regression technique commonly used to mitigate anomalies like non-additivity and heteroscedasticity. This paper introduces a more flexible framework, the non-parametric Box-Cox model with unspecified transformation, to address model mis-specification in high-dimensional linear hypothesis testing while preserving the interpretation of regression coefficients. Model estimation and computation in high dimensions poses challenges beyond traditional sparse penalization methods. We propose the constrained partial penalized composite probit regression method for sparse estimation and investigate its statistical properties. Additionally, we present a computationally efficient algorithm using augmented Lagrangian and coordinate majorization descent for solving regularization problems with folded concave penalization and linear constraints. For testing linear hypotheses, we propose the partial penalized composite likelihood ratio test, score test and Wald test, and show that their limiting distributions under null and local alternatives follow generalized chi-squared distributions with the same degrees of freedom and noncentral parameter. Extensive simulation studies are conducted to examine the finite sample performance of the proposed tests. Our analysis of supermarket data illustrates potential discrepancies between our testing procedures and standard high-dimensional methods, highlighting the importance of our robustified approach.

Optimal Weighting for Exam Composition

Abstract:A problem faced by many instructors is that of designing exams that accurately assess the abilities of the students. Typically, these exams are prepared several days in advance, and generic question scores are used based on rough approximation of the question difficulty and length. For example, for a recent class taught by the author, there were 30 multiple choice questions worth 3 points, 15 true/false with explanation questions worth 4 points, and 5 analytical exercises worth 10 points. We describe a novel framework where algorithms from machine learning are used to modify the exam question weights in order to optimize the exam scores, using the overall final score as a proxy for a student’s true ability. We show that significant error reduction can be obtained by our approach over standard weighting schemes, i.e., for the final and midterm exam, the mean absolute error for prediction decreases by 90.58% and 97.70% for linear regression approach respectively resulting in better estimation. We make several new observations regarding the properties of the “good” and “bad” exam questions that can have impact on the design of improved future evaluation methods.

Abstract:Transformation of a response variable can greatly expand the class of problems for which the linear regression model or linear mixed-model is appropriate. Beginning with the fundamental work of Box and Cox, maximum-likelihood-like estimation has been applied to select a transformation from among a family of transformations, with the possible goals of achieving approximate normality, removing nonlinearity in a mean function, or stabilizing variance. The Box-Cox power family (BC) of transformations is by far the most common with the Box-Cox methodology, and it requires a strictly positive response. In this article we introduce a new family of transformations that we call the Box-Cox power with nonpositives (BCN) family that allows inclusion of a few nonpositive values. The BCN family is a modification of the basic power family that is inspired by the generalised log, or glog transformation, proposed for use with the more limited goals of stabilizing variance or achieving approximate normality. The glog transformation is itself a special case of the Johnson SU transformation, and we show that the BCN family derived from it is in turn a simple modification of the BC family. Computer code for implementing this family is included in the car package in R (Fox and Weisberg, 2011). The methodology is illustrated using a problem in clinical chemistry. Investigating weight constraint methods for causal-formative indicator modeling

Abstract:Causal-formative indicators are often used in social science research. To achieve identification in causal-formative indicator modeling, constraints need to be applied. A conventional method is to constrain the weight of a formative indicator to be 1. The selection of which indicator to have the fixed weight, however, may influence statistical inferences of the structural path coefficients from the causal-formative construct to outcomes. Another conventional method is to use equal weights (e.g., 1) and assumes that all indicators equally contribute to the latent construct, which can be a strong assumption. To address the limitations of the conventional methods, we proposed an alternative constraint method, in which the sum of the weights is constrained to be a constant. We analytically studied the relations and interpretations of structural path coefficients from the constraint methods, and the results showed that the proposed method yields better interpretations of path coefficients. Simulation studies were conducted to compare the performance of the weight constraint methods in causal-formative indicator modeling with one or two outcomes. Results showed that higher biases in the path coefficient estimates were observed from the conventional methods compared to the proposed method. The proposed method had ignorable bias and satisfactory coverage rates in the studied conditions. This study emphasizes the importance of using an appropriate weight constraint method in causal-formative indicator modeling.

Item-Weighted Likelihood Method for Measuring Growth in Longitudinal Study With Tests Composed of Both Dichotomous and Polytomous Items

Abstract:In this paper, a new item-weighted scheme is proposed to assess examinees' growth in longitudinal analysis. A multidimensional Rasch model for measuring learning and change (MRMLC) and its polytomous extension is used to fit the longitudinal item response data. In fact, the new item-weighted likelihood estimation method is not only suitable for complex longitudinal IRT models, but also it can be used to estimate the unidimensional IRT models. For example, the combination of the two-parameter logistic (2PL) model and the partial credit model (PCM, Masters, 1982) with a varying number of categories. Two simulation studies are carried out to further illustrate the advantages of the item-weighted likelihood estimation method compared to the traditional Maximum a Posteriori (MAP) estimation method, Maximum likelihood estimation method (MLE), Warm's (1989) weighted likelihood estimation (WLE) method, and type-weighted maximum likelihood estimation (TWLE) method. Simulation results indicate that the improved item-weighted likelihood estimation method better recover examinees' true ability level for both complex longitudinal IRT models and unidimensional IRT models compared to the existing likelihood estimation (MLE, WLE and TWLE) methods and MAP estimation method, with smaller bias, root-mean-square errors, and root-mean-square difference especially at the low-and high-ability levels.
