Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of the proximal femoral nail antirotation-asian type(PFNA-Ⅱ)for treatment of complex intertrochanteric fractures. Methods From January to June 2011,complex intertrochanteric fractures were treated with PFNA-Ⅱ in 16 cases, including 10 males and 6 females, aged 41 to 93 years, mean 66.6 years.According to Evans classification, type Ⅲ account for 12 and type Ⅳ for 4,respectively.Fracture healing and implant stability and relative complication were record in routine outpatient follow-up.All patients were evaluated with the use of Harris hip score system. Results All 16 cases got full follow-up visit for at least 6 months(6-14 months, mean 9.3±1.7 months). All cases got bony union, taking 3-6 months(mean 4.7±0.8 months) and could walk with normal gait at the last visit. No wound complications, loss of reduction, implant failure or stress fracture were noted during follow-up visits.According to Harris hip score system, the postoperative effects were excellent in 12 cases, good in 3 cases, fair in 1 case, excellent and good rate was 93.75%.Conclusions PFNA-Ⅱ is one optional treatment method for complex intertrochanteric fractures, with satisfactory results, low complication and easy to utilize. We recommend this method be considered for the stabilisation of complex intertrochanteric fractures in daily clinical practice.
