PFNA-Ⅱ Internal Fixation for the Treatment of Intertrochanteric Hip Fractures

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical results of intertrochanteric hip fractures treated with PFNA-Ⅱ.Methods Twenty patients with intertrochanteric hip fractures were treated with PFNA-Ⅱ.Among them,18 patients were treated with close reduction,open reduction was accepted in 2 patients.The clinical results and radiological results were evaluated 3 months postoperatively.Results The fractures of all the patients were healed in average 3 months postoperatively,there were no mechanical failure occurred.Twelve patients regained their preoperative level of function.There was no relativity between radiological results and function.Conclusion PFNA-Ⅱoffers the orthopaedic surgeons MIS way to treat intertrochanteric fractures,if a closed reduction cannot achieved after several attempt,limited open reduction is necessary.The improvement of the design facilitate the insertion of the nail,decrease the stress to the lateral wall,low profile nail end and end cap reduce soft tissue irritation.Most of the patients will regain their preoperative level of function.
