Abstract:Single crystal Ag nanorods and elegant highly ordered dendriticsupramolecular nanostructures (see Figure) of Ag nanoparticles have been prepared via a novel ultraviolet photoreduction technique at room temperature using poly(vinylalcohol) (PVA) as protection agent. The concentration of both the PVA and AgNO3 play a significant role in the growth of the nanorods and dendrites.

Abstract:Pure zinc oxide and Ag/ZnO thin films were prepared via two step method. The crystal structure, topography, chemical composition and optical properties were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectrophotometer and laser micro-Raman spectrometer. XRD, FE-SEM and XPS results indicated that Ag nanoparticles were successfully deposited on the zinc oxide nanorods. Ag nanoparticles on the zinc oxide nanorods would extend the photoabsorption region and reduce the electron transition from CB to VB. The photoelectrochemical performances of ZnO thin film could be effectively enhanced by moderate Ag nanoparticles modification. Under sunlight illumination, the photocurrent of the Ag-0.5/ZnO electrode was about three times as large as that of the zinc oxide electrode. The charge transfer process for the Ag/ZnO electrode under sunlight illumination has been discussed. With the increase of Ag content, the resistivity of the sample decreases sharply.

Abstract:Au and Ag Noble metals nanowire arrays have been successfully prepared by a photochemical method in porous anodic aluminum oxide template from an aqueous solution of HAuCl4 and AgNO3 in the presence of polymer capping materials PVA at room temperature. The products were characterized by XRD, TEM and SEM. These nanowires have uniform diameters of about 20nm, which correspond to the pore sizes of the templates used, and lengths are up to tens of micrometers. This approach can be used to fabricate crystalline nanowire arrays of a wide range of other metals and semiconductor materials.

Abstract:A new method of synthesis Ag/Au core/shell nanostructure with ultraviolet (UV) excimer laser was studied. It was found Ag/Au core/shell nanostructures with spherical shell could be prepared by UV excimer laser which is obviously confirmed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy. The surface plasma resonance of this nanostructure can be tuned by controlling thickness of the Au shell. Simulation based on Mie theory was in agreement with the result of the experiments. Moreover, it is indicated the Ag/Au core/shell nanostructure has excellent activity in surface-enhanced Raman scattering. This Ag/Au core/shell nanostructure may be applied to high sensitive trace detection in the future. (C) 2014 Laser Institute of America.

Abstract:A simple reduction/oxidation chemical solution approach at room temperature has been developed to synthesize ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals, in which NaBH4 is used as a reducing agent instead of mineralizers such as sodium hydroxide, ammonia, and alcohol. The morphology, structure, and optical property of the ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals have been characterized by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis (DSC-TGA), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. It is indicated that the uniform tetragonal ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals with the size below 2 nm have been fabricated at room temperature. The band gap of the ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals is about 4.1 eV, exhibiting 0.5 eV blue shift from that of the bulk SnO2 (3.6 eV). Furthermore, the mechanism for the reduction/oxidation chemical reaction synthesis of the ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals has been preliminary presented. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Shape-controlled gold nanoparticles were synthesized using a novel ultraviolet irradiation technique at room temperature. The very slow ultraviolet irradiation photoreduction process may favor the formation of the shaped gold nanoparticles. It was found that not only the concentration of gold cations and the irradiation time but also the concentration and the species of polymer capping materials play important roles in the morphology control of the gold nanoparticles.

Abstract:Aqueous dispersive colloidal Ag nanocubes are prepared by reducing silver nitrate with ascorbic acid in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB) and silver seeds.The morphologies and optical properties of Ag nanocubes are studied by UV-Visible spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy.Some factors affecting the size and shape of Ag nanocubes are studied such as the concentrations of CTAB and ascorbic acid,different pH values and the conditions of heat treatment.

Abstract:A simple chemical solution route for the synthesis of large-scale high-quality Ag nanoparticle functionalized molybdenum oxide nanowire at room temperature has been developed. In the synthesis, the protonated amine was intercalated into the molybdenum bronze layers to reduce the electrostatic force of the lamellar structures, and then the Ag nanoparticle functionalized long nanowires could be easily induced by a redox reaction between a molybdenum oxide-amine intermediate and Ag+ at room temperature. The intercalation lamellar structures improved the nucleation and growth of the Ag nanoparticles, with the result that uniform Ag nanoparticles occurred on the surface of the MoO3 nanowire. In this way Ag nanoparticles with average sizes of around 6 nm, and high-purity nanowires with mean diameter of around 50 nm and with typical lengths of several tens to hundreds of micrometers were produced. The heteronanostructured nanowires were intricately and inseparably connected to each other with hydrogen bonds and/or bridge oxygen atoms and packed together, forming a paper-like porous network film. The Ag-MoO3 nanowire film performs a promoted catalytic property for the epoxidation of cis-cyclooctene, and the heteronanostructured nanowire film sensor shows excellent sensing performance to hydrogen and oxygen at room temperature.

Abstract:Silver-modified ZnO nanorods array has been prepared and the effect of silver modification has been studied. ZnO nanorods array were fabricated through a wet chemical route and a photo deposition method was taken to fabricate silver nano particulate on the ZnO nanorods. The structural and optical properties were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscope, high resolution transmission electron microscope, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman, UV–vis and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. The UV photocatalytic activity of these materials was studied by analyzing the degradation of methylene blue (MB) in aqueous solution. The photocatalytic performance indicated that Ag deposit acted as not only electron sinks to enhance the separation of photoexcited electrons from holes, but also charge carrier recombination centers, so the optimized amount of Ag deposit was investigated.

Abstract:Rapid synthesis of silver nanowires(Ag NWs) with high quality and a broad processing window is challenging because of the low selectivity of the formation of multiply twinned particles at the nucleation stage for subsequent Ag NWs growth.Herein we report a systematic study of the water-involved heterogeneous nucleation of Ag NWs with high rate(less than 20 min) in a simple and scalable preparation method.Using glycerol as a reducing agent and a solvent with a high boiling point,the reaction is rapidly heated to 210 ℃ in air to synthesize Ag NWs with a very high yield in gram level.It is noted that the addition of a small dose of water plays a key role for obtaining highly pure Ag NWs in high yield,and the optimal water/glycerol ratio is0.25%.After investigating a series of forming factors including reaction temperature and dose of catalysts,the formation kinetics and mechanism of the Ag NWs are proposed.Compared to other preparation methods,our strategy is simple and reproducible.These Ag NWs show a strong Raman enhancement effect for organic molecules on their surface.

Abstract:Nanoscaled fibrous aggregates of gold nanoparticles have been synthesized by a simultaneous reduction-oxidation polymerization process using aniline as reducing agent as well as monomer in an ethanol medium. Time-dependent UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy was used to track the formation process of gold nanoparticles. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrum of the as-preapred products indicate these gold nanoparticles were binded by the oxidation polymerization resultant of aniline.

Abstract:Crystalline silver nanowires, with diameters of 100–500 nm and lengths up to tens of micrometer, were synthesized via a reaction of Cu2O and AgNO3 in aqueous solution mixed with ethanol at room temperature. Cu2O was used as reducing agent. The samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The possible mechanism for the formation of silver nanowires is discussed.

Abstract:In this work, we successfully prepared one dimensional (1D) AgBr@Ag nanostructures in high yield by a facile wet chemical method, and the plausible growth mechanism was discussed. The synthesis of as-prepared AgBr@Ag nanostructure is a dissolution and recrystallization process, and the PVP and DMSO have a synergistic and competitive effect on the preparation of 1D AgBr@Ag products. Moreover, the AgBr@Ag nanorods exhibit excellent photocatalytic activities under visible light illumination, which may be attributed to their large surface area as well as superior charge separation and transfer efficiency compared to AgBr@Ag particles.

Abstract:Needle-like ZnO nanorods (ZnO–NRs)/Ag nanoparticles (Ag–NPs) heterostructures with tunable silver contents have been successfully designed and constructed via a two-step hydrothermal approach on zinc foil. The as-fabricated heteroarchitectured composite was Ag–NPs with a size range about 30 to 50 nm in diameter assembled uniformly on the surface of needle-like ZnO–NRs, several micrometers long and about 480 nm wide near the half height of the nanorods. Through the variation of the reactant concentration such as silver nitrate, the silver content on the ZnO–NRs can be controllably tuned, which further greatly affected the photocatalytic performance of the decomposition of a representative dye pollutant of rhodamine B, and there is an optimum amount of secondary Ag–NPs. This facile method developed here also can be extended to construct other ZnO-based noble metal or semiconductor heterostructures on zinc substrates.

Abstract:The controllable synthesis of uniform silver nanocubes with high purity is pivotal for the fundamental study of self-assembly and further research on the hollow nanostructures,gold nanocages for instance.Here,Ag nanocubes of different sizes were synthesized by an improved polyol method.With addition of HCl solution,Ag nanocubes with size about 100 nm were obtained under an air atmosphere.And Ag nanocubes with size around50 nm can be produced in a short time under Argon atmosphere with the presence of NaHS instead of HCl.Meanwhile,uniform Ag nanocubes with size larger than 100 nm were also synthesized successfully via adjusting experiment parameters.Results of transmission electron microscopy（TEM）combined with selected area electron diffraction（SAED）show that the Ag nanocubes are single crystalline with six（200）surface plane.In the UV-Vis-NIR optical absorption spectrum,the diple moment resonance absorption peak is changed in the range of 420—500nm with the increase of Ag nanocubes size.

Abstract:Metal nanostructures with the size range of 1-100 nm, featuring unique physical and chemical properties that arise from their quantum size effects and high surface areas, have been the focus of recent scientific research. Among a variety of synthetic methods, the photoreduction method represents a promising strategy for controlled synthesis of metal nanostructures with different sizes, shapes and composition. In this review, the latest development on synthesis of metal nanostructures by UV radiation, γ-ray radiation, and laser radiation methods will be overviewed with specific examples to illustrate how to generate metal nanostructures with unusual structural specialty and complexity. The perspectives on combination of this method with solution processing and interfacial reactions are given.

Abstract:We describe an aggregation-based growth mechanism for formation of silver nanowires at room temperature. It is found that the pH of solution and the concentration of l-cysteine capping molecules have an important effect on the formation and growth of nanowires. Characterization by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and UV–vis spectroscopy recorded as time clearly shows that the silver nanowires are grown at the expense of nanoparticles.

Abstract:We report an ultrafast synthesis of wavy gold-silver (AuAg) nanowires with tunable diameters via a seed-mediated co-reduction. The success of current strategy relies on the use of an elevated reaction temperature to accelerate the synthesis to be completed within several minutes and the use of Au seeds with controlled sizes to enable the manipulation over their diameters in the range of 2-10 nm. The presence of chloride-contained quaternary ammonium surfactant and excessive reductant have been demonstrated to be critical for the high-yield formation of AuAg products with the unique morphology of wavy nanowire. Due to the advantage in size control, the size effect on the plasmonic behavior of AuAg alloy wavy nanowires is investigated, where the products with sub-5 nm diameter exhibit a broad shoulder absorbance peak in their spectrum.

Abstract:Ag nanostructures are widely used in catalysis, energy conversion and chemical sensing. Morphology-tailored synthesis of Ag nanostructures is critical to tune physical and chemical properties. In this study, we develop a method for synthesizing the morphology-tailored Ag nanostructures in aqueous solution at a low temperature (45 degrees C). With the use of AgCl nanoparticles as the precursor, the growth kinetics of Ag nanostructures can be tuned with the pH value of solution and the concentration of Pd cubes which catalyze the reaction. Ascorbic acid and cetylpyridinium chloride are used as the mild reducing agent and capping agent in aqueous solution, respectively. High-yield Ag nanocubes, nanowires, right triangular bipyramids/cubes with twinned boundaries, and decahedra are successfully produced. Our method opens up a new environmentally-friendly and economical route to synthesize large-scale and morphology-tailored Ag nanostructures, which is significant to the controllable fabrication of Ag nanostructures and fundamental understanding of the growth kinetics.
