Abstract:Next Generation Networks (NGNs) are aiming to integrate different access technologies for the accessibility of heterogeneous platform under the control of IP protocol. In such a complex environment, the availability of high data rates, high bandwidth, security, and end-to-end QoS are major challenges. In this paper cross-layer localized mobility management based on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and Hierarchical MIPv6 (HMIPv6) is proposed to support the providence of the end-to- end QoS; network and session mobility; reduce latency; and proper bandwidth management. The proposed scheme handles the mobility locally to minimize latency. Further, QoS manager is used for proper management of bandwidth. Performance analysis and numerical results demonstrate the efficiency and feasibility of proposed scheme for real time communication in terms of latency, packet loss, and traffic load. Abstract:Effective mobility management has become a critical problem in dealing with increasing number of mobile devices accessing the Internet.This paper presents a mobility management architecture which integrates the host identity protocol(HIP) and the session initiation protocol(SIP).The system uses joint optimization of the HIP and SIP to make better use of their advantages.Redundant entities for similar functions,such as registration,are merged to simplify the mobility management procedures.Various handoff schemes are proposed for different applications to reduce the handoff delay.Numerical results show that this solution outperforms the SHIP mobility architecture in term of signalling overhead and handoff delay.

Abstract:Since the demand for mobile real-time application grows fast, the handoff efficiency of mobile IP becomes extraordinarily important. Seamless handoff requires that users and applications do not suffer loss of connectivity or any noticeable interruption in traffic during handoffs. In this paper, we present a seamless handoff scheme for mobile IP, which is especially suitable for large open indoor environments where more than one access points tend to overlap. By introducing a decision making entity which we term control engine, redesigning part of the layer 3 message exchange among communicating entities and utilizing a handoff decision algorithm with pure software-based movement tracking techniques, this novel scheme is able to eliminate handoff latency and packet loss which may have been noticed by a mobile node during handoffs completely. Network simulator-2 was employed to validate the feasibility of this scheme, and the result shows that the performance in terms of latency is eliminated completely. More importantly, this scheme is capable of providing handoff between foreign agents with no packet loss. While the throughput is kept at a relatively high level, the end-to-end delay from correspondent node to mobile node is reduced obviously

Abstract:To deal with increasing number of the mobile devices and applications in the next generation all-IP wireless networks, effective mobility management has become a critical problem. In this paper, we propose a new mobility management architecture, named I-HSIP, which integrates Host Identity Protocol (HIP) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to handle TCP and UDP applications respectively. In this architecture, we utilize the joint optimization of HIP and SIP while exploring both of their advantages. The redundant entities for the similar function are merged to simplify the mobility management procedures such as registration, session initiation and handoff by reducing the system signaling. The simulation results show that I-HSIP outperforms the previous mobility architecture such as Integrated MIP-SIP and SHIP on the signaling overhead and handoff delay.

Abstract:Nowadays, mobile users wish to use their multi-interface mobile devices to access the Internet through network points of attachment (PoA) based on heterogeneous wireless technologies. They also wish to seamlessly change the PoAs during their ongoing sessions to improve service quality and/or reduce monetary cost. If appropriately handled, multihomed mobile nodes offer a potential solution to this issue. In this sense, the management of multihomed mobile nodes in heterogeneous environment is a key research topic. In this paper, we present an improvement of SIP mobility (pre-call plus mid-call mobility) to support seamless mobility of multihomed mobile nodes in heterogeneous wireless networks. Pre-call mobility is extended to associate user identifier (i.e. SIP URI) and interface identifiers (i.e. IP addresses). The multiple addresses of a mobile device are weighted by the user to create a priority list in the SIP server so as to guarantee resilient reachability of mobile nodes and to avoid unnecessary signaling through wireless links, thus saving radio resources. Then, three variations of mid-call mobility, called hard, hybrid and soft procedures, are also proposed. Their main aim is to minimize, or even avoid, packet losses during interface switching at the mobile node. The proposed solutions have been implemented in a wireless heterogeneous testbed composed of 802.11 WLAN plus 3.5 cellular network, which are fully controlled and configurable. The testbed has been used to study the performance and the robustness of the three proposed mid-call mobility procedures.

Abstract:With the development of hardware and software technologies, mobile computing has become popular and pervasive. As a result, user-created mobile contents overwhelmingly increase, and cont sharing becomes the most popular application in communication networks. In order to accommodate this technical trend, a new networking architecture - named data networking (NDN) -was proposed to optimize the performance of content sharing. However, NDN has little design consideration for mobile applications, especially for the real-time multimedia applications which are very sensitive to the end-to-end network delay. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a SIP-based mobility-enabled scheme for supporting mobile multimedia applications in NDN. We will give a new description based on SIP message exchange to support mobility in NDN. Then, two enhanced approaches are proposed to further improve the handoff performance in NDN for fast handoff and the low complexity of terminal. We evaluate the proposed scheme with the OPNET simulator. The results show that the proposed SIP-based scheme can well support mobility in NDN.

Abstract:As Modern Service Industry (MSI) improves with economic restructuring in China, emerging user-central applications bring enormous challenges to current communication networks characterized with heterogeneity. In this paper, the next generation heterogeneous network (NGHN), which offers such an integrated end-to-end IP-based infrastructure, is envisaged to support personal mobility and seamless service continuity across disparate access technologies in a transparent manner. Since the traditional single-layer-mobility methods cannot support user-central mobility, a novel scheme integrates the benefits of application-layer SIP mobility with transport-layer mSCTP mobility is proposed In our mobility scheme, location management mechanism of SIP is combined with dynamic address reconfiguration of mSCTP, and several new messages are designed to simplify the personal mobility and seamless service handover procedure.

Abstract:In the era of cloud and mobile social computing, a plethora of mobile applications demand mobile stations (MSs) seamlessly interact with the cloud anyplace in a real-time fashion. The mobility characteristic may cause a service on MS to be migrated between different Data Centers (DC); otherwise, a packet delay is increased due to the fact that a considerable geographical distance between MS and serving DC. With a current networking architecture, IP address of either MS or virtual machine (VM) is changed because of the VM migration, and an IP session between two peers is released and the service is disrupted as a result. In this paper, we leverage the emerging Content Centric Networking (CCN) as a straightforward solution to these issues. Based on unique content name identification, instead of IP address, service migration can be continuous. Furthermore, a seamless service migration framework is proposed to conduct the user’s service request to the optimal DC, which satisfies user requirements, minimizes the network usage and ensures application Quality of Experience (QoE).

Abstract:Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) has been grown by atomic layer deposition on n-type 4H-SiC with and without a thin silicon dioxide (SiO2) intermediate layer. By means of Capacitance Voltage and Thermal Dielectric Relaxation Current measurements, the interface properties have been investigated. Whereas for the samples with an interfacial SiO2 layer the highest near-interface trap density is found at 0.3 eV below the conduction band edge, Ec, the samples with only the Al2O3 dielectric exhibit a nearly trap free region close to Ec. For the Al2O3/SiC interface, the highest trap density appears between 0.4 to 0.6 eV below Ec. The results indicate the possibility for SiC-based MOSFETs with Al2O3 as the gate dielectric layer in future high performance devices.

Abstract:Roaming across heterogeneous wireless networks such as wireless wide area network (WWAN) and wireless local area network (WLAN) poses considerable challenges, as it is usually difficult to maintain the existing connections and guarantee the necessary quality-of-service. This paper proposes a novel seamless and proactive end-to-end mobility management system, which can maintain the connections based on the end-to-end principle by incorporating an intelligent network status detection mechanism. The proposed system consists of two components, connection manager (CM) and virtual connectivity (VC). The CM, by using novel media access control-layer and physical-layer sensing techniques, can obtain accurate network condition, while at the same time reducing the unnecessary handoff and ping-pong effect. The VC can make mobility transparent to applications without additional network-layer infrastructure support using a local connection translation, and can handle mobility well in the network address translator and simultaneous movement cases using a subscription/notification service. The proposed system enjoys several unique advantages: 1) capable of reacting to roaming events proactively and accurately; 2) maintaining the connection's continuity with small handoff delay; and 3) being a unified end-to-end approach for both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. We have built a prototype system and performed experiments to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed system.

Abstract:In recent years, multimedia technology and data communications technology has developed rapidly. Multi-party audio and video call is becoming popular. Multi-party audio and video call can solve the problem of long-distance communications. However, the existing call system does not combine the centralized and distributed media flow control modes effectively, which fails to give full play to the advantages of the two control methods. This paper presents a multi-party call dynamic control technology. It takes the client network bandwidth and the number of users as the transformation condition. And through the combination of star topology and mesh topology, the multi-call system can adaptively adjust the distribution method of media flow. Based on SIP conference control the system uses WebRTC technology to improve call quality. The experimental results show that the technology can effectively show the congestion and resource occupancy rate of each client in the system, and adjust the system media flow control in a timely manner, so that the media stream can be transmitted smoothly and call quality can be improved.

Abstract:Although the machine to machine (M2M) communication has been emerging in recent years, many vendors' specific proprietary solutions are not suitable for vital M2M applications. While the main focus of those solutions is management and provisioning of machines, real-time monitoring and communication control are also required to handle a variety of access technologies, like WiFi and LTE, and unleash machine deployment. In this paper, we present a new architecture addressing these issues by leveraging the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) deployed in operator's networks for RCS and VoLTE.

Abstract:The rapid development of terminal mobility technology cannot meet the progressively growing requirement of users, calling for the birth of a new sort of mobility. Compared with terminal mobility, this mobility is defined as service mobility, which concerns about the handoff between terminals or service providers. According to its characters, service can be classified into two main categories, communication service and information service. The former focuses on establishing communicating connection between users, while the later concerns about gaining resource information from providers. Their differences are shown in this paper by comparing with their theoretical frameworks. Then, for either category, a new concept of mobility is brought forward respectively. Communication service mobility studies the influence brought about by the change of terminals or access points, while information service mobility researches on issues about replacing the service sources. Moreover, theoretical prototypes are provided here to lend a base for the realization of both service mobilities. In each prototype, the holistic configuration of system and detailed structure of network entities are described and analyzed. Also, the working scheme of each model will be presented in this paper to show their effective support for service mobility.

Abstract:This paper proposes an agent-based architecture to realize personal mobility. Following terminal mobility, personal mobility is becoming another research hotspot in the area of mobility and mobility management. Through the comparison of the frameworks of these two sorts of mobility, two core issues of realizing personal mobility are brought forward. A new architecture, Double Agent Architecture, is proposed to support personal mobility. The holistic framework of this architecture and detailed structure of network entities are also stated. Two kinds of agents, managed by users and service providers respectively, are utilized in this model to fulfill these two corresponding key tasks. Moreover, the processes of communication establishment and handoff performance in the environment of this new architecture are described, also the advantages of this new network configuration and working scheme are pointed out.

Abstract:Recently many research efforts have been spent on applying Software Defined Networking (SDN) to mobile and wireless networking to make them adapt to the rapid development and popularity of the mobile Internet. SDN offers programmable devices and centralized control which help to realize customizable and adaptive solutions to meet requirements from diversified mobile networks, devices, applications and so forth. This paper focuses on extending SDN paradigm to mobility handling in the Internet which has been little studied, and proposes design, implementation and deployment of a software-defined IP mobility architecture. The paper also demonstrates evaluations and experiments of the proposal based on both the Mininet platform and a cross-domain SDN testbed. Results prove the feasibility, scalability and high adaptability of the proposal.

Mobility support in Multi-Path TCP

Abstract:Mobile devices are emerging with multiple interfaces with diverse access technologies. Simultaneously use multiple interfaces can bring lots of benefits to users. However, current TCP fails to support to simultaneously use multiple interfaces. Thus Multi-Path TCP is proposed to overcome the limitation. But MPTCP itself cannot provide mobility support, which may impose mobility restriction on mobile devices. We thus propose a mobility management scheme inside MPTCP protocol. We first propose several requirements for Multi-Path TCP mobility management and then present our solution. Our solution is based on the concept of ID/Locator separation. We use a permanent address and several temporary addresses to separate host identity and locations. By the cooperation of dynamic DNS and MPTCP, our solution has a good support in MPTCP mobility. Finally, we implement a real-world system of MPTCP with mobility support as a proof of feasibility of our approach.

Abstract:Mobility management is a key aspect to consider in future Internet architectures, as these architectures include a highly nomadic end-user which often relies on services provided by multi-access networks. In contrast, today's mobility management solutions were designed having in mind simpler scenarios and requirements from the network and where roaming could often be taken care of with previously established agreements. With a more dynamic behavior in the network, and also with a more prominent role from the end-user, mobility management has to deal with additional requirements derived from new Internet paradigms. To assist in understanding such requirements and also how to deal with them, this paper proposes a starting point to dismantle current mobility management notions. Our contribution is an initial proposal on defining mobility management in concrete functional blocks, their interaction, as well as a potential grouping which later can assist in deriving novel and more flexible mobility management architectures.

Abstract:Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) was designed as a part of theoverall IETF multimedia data and control architecture currently incorporating many other protocols. It is an application-layer control protocol used to establish, modify and terminate multimedia sessions or calls. SIP is not attached to any particular conference control protocol. It is designed to be independent of the lower-layer transport protocol, and can be extended with additional capabilities.
