Abstract:The interaction between De-NO and De-SO2 from flue gas in a pulsed corona discharge plasma (PCDP) reactor was studied experimentally. A mechanism and kinetic scheme of De-NO and De-SO2 inside the PCDP reactor has been proposed and verified by comparison of the simulated and experimental results. The dominant radicals and elementary reactions are confirmed through sensitivity analysis. It has been found that there is significant interaction between the De-NO and De-SO2 processes in a PCDP reactor, and that the De-NO reactions prevail over the De-SO2 ones. The interaction consists of competitive reactions between NO and SO2 involving oxidative radicals, as well as interaction reactions between NO, SO2 and their derivatives. Through sensitivity analysis it has been found that the most effective elemental reaction to De-NO is NO + HO2 < = > OH + NO2 and that the most helpful radical is HO2. The most effective reaction for De-SO2 is SO2 + O < = > SO3 and the most helpful radical is atomic O. The study reveals the interaction mechanism between De-NO and De-SO2 in PCDP and provides a theoretical basis to improve the performance of simultaneous NO and SO2 abatement in a PCDP reactor.

Abstract:The Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) combined with a pulsed power source can convert NO and SO2 to NO2 and SO3 with increased PM2.5 capture efficiency. Simultaneous removal of NO and SO2 from flue gas by pulsed corona discharge was experimentally investigated. This paper focuses on the main factors influencing NO and SO2 conversion efficiencies. The results indicated that by increasing pulse peak voltage, pulse frequency, number of electrodes, residence time and decreasing initial concentrations, the conversion efficiencies can be improved. High air humidity played an important role in SO2 conversion efficiency. The NO and SO2 conversion efficiencies reached 70% and 90% with initial concentrations of about 150×10-6 in the experimental system.

Abstract:Pulsed corona discharge can not only increase the capture efficiency of submicron particles effectively,but also remove other pollutants in flue gas.In a small test-bed,the influences of pulse peak voltage,pulse frequency,residence time and initial particle concentration on the particle charging,agglomeration and collection,and the influences of pulse peak voltage,pulse frequency,gas velocity,vapor volume fraction on the oxidation efficiency of SO2,NO,and Hg0 were investigated.The results show that good simultaneous removal efficiencies up to 90%,95%,50% and 50% were achieved for PM1,SO2,NO and Hg0,respectively.Then a pilot platform was designed and built.

In spite of attempts to reduce the amount of SO/sub 2/ and NO/sub x/ emitted, the density of SO/sub 2/ and NO/sub x/ in the atmosphere has remained on a stable level, or even become worse. Here, we designed a novel type of needle-water electrode corona discharge experiment model. In this paper, we emphasized the influence of water on removal rates of NO and SO/sub 2/ using this model. The experimental results show that the corona wind forming between a high-voltage electrode and water film by corona discharge enhances the cleaning efficiency of the flue gas because of the existence of the water film, and the cleaning efficiency will increase with the increase of dc applied voltage within a definite range. It not only improves the removal efficiency of SO/sub 2/ by up to 98%, but also by about 85% for NO/sub x/ removal under suitable conditions. This project is very significant for the prevention of acid rain and the treatment of dust of flue gas and an improvement on the traditional electrical dust precipitator.

Abstract:Pulsed discharge deNO (x) /deSO(2) process has been studied for over 20 years, but how to achieve higher removal rate at lower cost remains one of the crucial issues for realization of its industrial application. This paper presents a novel deNO (x) /deSO(2) process that combines a wire-plate type pulsed discharge reactor and a corona radical shower. Our aim is to increase the deNO (x) /deSO(2) rate of wire-plate type reactor by enhancing the generation of radicals with pulsed corona radical shower. Effect of a nozzle electrode on the production of OH radical was studied by emissive spectrum, and deNO (x) /deSO(2) experiments using a wire-plate reactor with pulsed corona radical shower were conducted. The experimental results demonstrated that corona radical shower could enhance the production of radicals and the deNO (x) /SO2 performance of a wire-plate reactor. This study will play a positive role in the industrial application of wire-plate pulsed discharge deNO (x) /deSO(2) reactor.

Abstract:As it has a simple system and a small floor area, flue gas simultaneous desulfurization and denitrification technology has a good development prospect, and related research has become a hot topic in the field of flue gas purification. In this work, a novel simultaneous removal technology of NO and SO2 from flue gas using a semi-dry microwave activation persulfate system was developed for the first time. A series of experiments and characterization analyses had been implemented to research the feasibility of this new flue gas purification technology. The oxidation products, free radicals, and mechanism of NO and SO2 simultaneous removal were revealed. The effect of the main technological parameters on NO and SO2 simultaneous removal was also studied. Relevant results demonstrated that an increase in the microwave radiation power, persulfate concentration, and O2 concentration enhanced NO and SO2 simultaneous removal. The increase of NO and SO2 concentrations weakened NO and SO2 simultaneous removal. The reagent dosage, pH value of the solution, and reaction temperature showed a dual influence on NO and SO2 simultaneous removal. Free-radical capture experiments revealed that both SO4-• and •OH that were produced by microwave activation of persulfate were the major active species and played very key roles in NO and SO2 simultaneous removal. The main products (sulfate and nitrate) and byproducts (NO2) in the tail gas were found. The process application and product post-treatment routes were also proposed. The result may provide the necessary inspiration and guidance for the development and application of microwave-activated advanced oxidation technology in the flue gas treatment area.

Abstract:Simultaneous desulfurization and denitrification of flue gas is a trend in the research and application for the pollution control technology. In this paper,we conduct the experiments according to the following thoughts. First,we ensure that the NO in flue gas oxidized to NO; by ozone injection. Then we use sulfite solution as the absorbent to analysis the absorption process. It was found that the removal efficiency of NO increased with the molar ratio ofO;/NO becoming higher,and when the molar ratio was 1. 1,the removal efficiency of NO reached 90%. During the absorption process,the removal efficiency of NO; reached 97% and remained unchanged under the condition of less than 80 ℃ in temperature and 10 in pH value. By analyzing the production of the absorption process,we can know that the redox reaction between NO; and SO;-3was the main reaction in De-NOxprocess. The mainly production in the mixture solution of Na2SO; and NaOH after the absorption process were SO;-4and N2.

Abstract:A sequential removal process of NO and SO2 in flue gas with low energy-consumption and high removal rate was put forward,and its feasibility was studied through reaction kinetics simulation.In this removal process,the active O atom which is produced by the reduction reaction between NO and activated N atom will be used to oxidize SO2 sequentially,and this process will go on the surfaces of some suitable adsorbents.Simulation of De-SO2 and De-NO was also carried out with the dry gas stream(NO/SO2/N2) without Ar.The simulation results indicate that NO can be removed remarkably.Only small amount of SO2 can be converted to SO3 and SO2 removal efficiency will increase with the increasing residence time.The above investigations indicate that the sequential removal NO and SO2 in flue gas is feasible.The key problem is to select some suitable adsorbent to control O2 concentration and residence time on the surface of it.

Abstract:Increasing fossil fuel burning has prompted serious concerns over acidifying compound emissions and air pollution has become a serious problem. Scientists and engineers have made numerous attempts to develop methods to control acid compound emissions. Non-thermal plasma, which is induced primarily by electric discharges, has been widely studied in the area of hazardous gas control. In this paper, the positive corona-induced removal of SO2 from the flue gas is studied based on the application of DC high voltage to a pin-plate electrode structure. The effect of discharge gap, discharge time and gas ingredient on SO2 removal rate was studied under positive pin-plate discharge condition. The results show that the removal rate of SO2 was decreased with the increasing discharge gap under the define DC high voltage.

Abstract:In this paper, four kinds of discharge at high pressure (>= 10(5)Pa) were discussed. The removal of SO2 from simulated flue gases was experimentally investigated using a DBD (dielectric barrier discharge) micro-gap discharge. Hydroxyl (OH center dot) radicals of high concentration was produced using the ionization of O-2 and H2O to further the conversion of SO2 into H2SO4 in the absence of any catalyst or absorbent. With the test and analysis, a number of H2SO4 droplets were captured using a semi-dry electrostatic precipitator (ESP). Therefore, a new gas-phase oxidation method for the removal of SO2 without NH3 additive is found.

The reactor is composed of needle-plate electrodes that are placed in a glass container filled with the flue gas, (the plate electrode is immersed in the water). The experimental results show that the NO removal rate significant increased with increasing applied DC voltage but the SO2 removal rate was not significantly affected by applied DC voltage and slightly improved in the present of water film. This project is very significant for the prevention of acid rain and the treatment of dust of flue gas and the improvement on the traditional electrical dust precipitator.

Abstract:A process capable of simultaneously oxidizing NO, SO2, and Hg0 was proposed, using a high-voltage and short-duration positive pulsed corona discharge. By focusing on NO, SO2, and Hg0 oxidation efficiencies, the influences of pulse peak voltage, pulse frequency, initial concentration, electrode number, residence time and water vapor addition were investigated. The results indicate that NO, SO2 and Hg0 oxidation efficiencies depend primarily on the radicals (OH, HO2, O) and the active species (O3, H2O2, etc.) produced by the pulsed corona discharge. The NO, SO2 and Hg0 oxidation efficiencies could be improved as pulse peak voltage, pulse frequency, electrode number and residence time increased, but they were reduced with increasing initial concentrations. By adding water vapor, the SO2 oxidation efficiency was improved remarkably, while the NO oxidation efficiency decreased slightly. In our experiments, the simultaneous NO, SO2, and Hg0 oxidation efficiencies reached to 40%, 98%, and 55% with the initial concentrations 479 mg/m3, 1040 mg/m3, and 15.0 microg/m3, respectively.

Abstract:Experiments on DeNOx were conducted in a lab-scale bubbling reactor with NaClO as the oxidant and sorbent.We studied the main factors influencing NO conversion efficiency,and propose a reaction mechanism of simultaneous removal of NO and SO2 by NaClO.The results indicated that initial pH was a significant factor in the denitrification process.The NO conversion efficiency was improved by increasing the NaClO concentration and the inlet NO concentration,while high solution temperature was not beneficial for the removal of NO.At pH 5.5,NaClO was an excellent scrubbing medium for the absorption of NO.The best absorption efficiency among the individual DeNOx experiments was 43.24%.The results of the combined DeSOx/DeNOx experiments showed that SO2 could improve the absorption of NO2,and the best DeNOx and DeSOx efficiencies reached 53.03% and 100%,respectively.Thus,NaClO could be an excellent oxidant and sorbent for simultaneous removal of SO2 and NO.

Abstract:One of the promising technologies is combined SO2/NOx removal system in flue gas cleaning. The aqueous catalyzed oxidation is discussed theoretically in this paper. Absorbing SO2/NOx by aqueous catalyzed oxidation and the catalyzed impact of transitional metal ions are overviewed. The possible reaction between SO2 and NOx when both of them exist in solution is discussed.

Abstract:Based on the technology of atmospheric pressure glow discharge plasma in air, a multilayer mesh-like contact type electrode structure was used to form a large-area, uniform and stable glow discharge in the flue. During the discharge process, particles with high oxidative activity (·OH, O, O3) were generated to remove the SO2 and NOx in flue gas. The characteristics of glow discharge plasma and the mechanism of desulfurization and denitrification with the contact electrode were discussed. The effects caused by different electrode layer numbers, oxygen concentrations and initial concentrations of gas to be treated were also analyzed. The results showed that removal rates of 96.3％ for SO2, 36.7％ for NOx, and oxidation rate of 91.2％ for NO were obtained in the following experimental conditions: the layer number of mesh-like electrodes was 6; the concentration of oxygen was 8％; the reaction time of flue gas was 1.2s.With its high density of charged particles, the glow discharge plasma showed good energy utilization efficiency in the flue gas treatment.
Investigation on the Pulse-Modulated Ratio Frequency Discharge and Its Application on the NOX Removal

Abstract:Summary form only given. In recent years, the pulse-modulated ratio frequency (rf) discharge at atmospheric pressure have drawn intensive attention 1, 2 because they possess not only the trait of high density of reactive species of rf voltage power sources but also good control of plasma parameters, particularly of overheating. In this work, the gas breakdown mechanisms, especially the roles of metastable species and the gas temperature in atmospheric pressure pulse-modulated rf barrier discharges were studied numerically using a self-consistent fluid model. The results firstly indicated that the electrons are produced mainly by energetic electron impact background neutrals during the pulse-on period while during the pulse-off period seed electrons for the next breakdown are overwhelmingly produced by the ionization associated with metastable species, and the molecular metastables play a decisive role in providing seed electrons compared to the atomic ones 3 . Secondly, it was shown that the gas temperature could be controlled effectively with the modulated pulse source, and the contributions from the Joule heating, elastic collisions, ion thermal flow and heavy particle reactions were also given and compared. Moreover, the application of this kind of power source on the NOX removal was also studied.
