Abstract:Ultra-short optical pulse sources are key components in optical time-division multiplexing(OTDM) system. In this paper, a wavelength and repetition frequency tunable actively mode-locked fiber ring laser based on cross-gain modulation in a Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier(RSOA) is demonstrated. Theoretical model for this scheme is also established and output characteristics are calculated. Stable picosecond pulse trains at 10-80 GHz repetition frequency are obtained. 30nm wavelength tuning range is achieved in our proposed actively mode-locked laser.

Abstract:We have for the first time experimentally demonstrated a high repetition-rate picosecond fiber laser source at 2 mu m by a spectrally masked phase modulation technique, where a phase modulator driven by a sinusoidal RF signal and a fiber Bragg grating are used to convert the output of a 2-mu m continuous-wave single-longitudinal-mode diode to a picosecond pulse train. The repetition-rate of this laser source can be continuously and flexibly tuned from 1 to 6 GHz by simply changing the RF signal. We achieved a shortest pulse width of similar to 60 ps and a high SNR of >75 dB at an operating frequency of 6 GHz. The simplicity and robustness of such a picosecond laser as well as the ability to synchronize with an external trigger make it a highly useful source for 2-mu m high speed optical data processing, communications, and metrology.

Abstract:A continuously tunable ring laser of repetition operation was successfully developed. The range of the tunable wavelength is 1535-1565 nm. The range of the repetition rates is 2.4-2.6 GHz. The time-bandwidth product is close to the transform limit. Optical pulses with a repetition rate of 5 GHz are obtained by changing the direct current bias voltage. The relative experimental principle was analyzed.

Abstract:An actively mode-locked laser with tunable repetition rate is proposed and experimentally demonstrated based on a programmable electrical pattern generator. By changing the repetition rate of the electrical patterns applied on the in-cavity modulator, the repetition rate of the output optical pulse sequences changes accordingly while the pulse width of the optical pulse train remains almost constant. In other words, the output ultra-short pulse train has a tunable duty cycle. In a proof-of-principle experiment, optical pulses with repetition rates of 10, 5, 2.5 and 1.25 GHz are obtained by adjusting the electrical pattern applied on the in-cavity modulator while their pulse widths remain almost unchanged.

Abstract:We have demonstrated a passively mode-locked fiber laser with a composite cavity structure for repetition rate control. An optical delay line is used to control the length so that the lengths of the main cavity and the sub-ring cavity are accurately co-prime. Using this method we have obtained 46th harmonic pulses with a fundamental repetition of 17.39MHz. The fundamental mode-locking is substantially suppressed. The SNR of rf spectrum is higher than 45 dB. Stable 800MHz repetition rate mode-locked pulses in duration of 14.27 ps are generated. The detuning phenomenon appears when two cavity's lengths are not matched. A larger pump power is required to maintain the oscillation.

Abstract:A compact and robust mode-locked fiber laser with a locked repetition rate is demonstrated in a polarization-maintain fiber ring cavity. The repetition rate is locked at 108 MHz and the standard deviation of the controlled signal is 0.997 mHz in a 10-hours test.

Abstract:We demonstrate a widely wavelength tunable high-repetition-rate mode-locked Yb-doped fiber laser, which implements a SESAM mode-locker and a tunable single grating filter. Different tuning approaches are investigated including tuning the mirror and angle of incidence of the filter, as well as changing the pump power. The maximum consecutive tuning range of the laser reaches 80.1 nm, from 1011.5 to 1091.6 nm at fundamental repetition rates varying from 576 to 578 MHz. To the best of our knowledge, this is the widest consecutive tuning range in the 1-μm region at a repetition rate above 100 MHz. Simultaneously, the pulse width varies from 3.1 to 6.8 ps with Gaussian profile assumed in the whole tuning range. The proposed widely tunable high-repetition-rate picosecond fiber laser would be a useful source for various applications in need of wavelength selective operation and high acquisition speed.

Driven by 2.5 GHz microwave signal the active mode-locked fiber ring laser can generate 2.5 GHz, 5 GHz and 7.5 GHz optical pulses by tuning the bias voltage and microwave power. Abstract:A novel configuration was demonstrated to realize dual-wavelength operation in an erbium-doped fiber ring laser by incorporating a pair of multiplexer/demultiplexer. The repetition rate of each channel can be separately changed by adjusting a delay line associated with that channel in the cavity without changing the radio frequency. Dual-wavelength pulses at 2.5 and 5 GHz respectively were simultaneously obtained with pulse widths of 17.7 and 13 ps.

Abstract:We have proposed and implemented a novel scheme to obtain high-precision repetition rate stabilization for a polarization-maintaining mode-locked fiber laser. The essential technique lies in the periodic injection of electronically modulated optical pulses into a nonlinear amplifying loop mirror within the laser resonator. Thanks to the nonlinear cross-phase modulation effect, the injected pulses referenced to an external clock serves as a stable and precise timing trigger for an effective intensity modulator. Consequently, synchronous mode-locking can be initiated to output ultrafast pulses with a passively stabilized repetition rate. The capture range of the locking system reaches to a record of 1 mm, which enables a long-term stable operation over 15 hours without the need of temperature stabilization and vibration isolation. Meanwhile, the achieved standard deviation is as low as 100 μHz with a 1-s sample time, corresponding to a fluctuation instability of 5.0×10-12. Additionally, the repetition rate stabilization performance based on the passive synchronization has been systematically investigated by varying the average power, central wavelength and pulse duration of the optical injection.

Abstract:A pulse-width-tunable continuously fiber laser is demonstrated in a 11.8m compact Brillouin/erbium fiber ring cavity based on actively mode-locked, only by changing the Brillouin pump power. In the experiment, the width of modelocked pulse can be adjusted continuously from 5ns to 30.6ns at 16.9MHz repetition rate, when the Brillouin pump power is adjusted from 12mW to 2.5mW. This actively mode-locked laser with continuously tunable-pulse-width is promising in the fields such as optical fiber sensing and communication.

Abstract:Here we demonstrated a dispersion stretched passively mode-locked fiber laser. The laser was mode-locked by nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) technical. Both dispersion managed soliton and noise-like pulses were observed in the experiment. Harmonic mode-locked noise-like pulses were observed. By changing the pump power or rotating the waveplates, noise-like pulse could split and always form equally spaced pulse train, thus the repetition rate of the output pulse could be switched among different orders of harmonic frequency. The experiment results were analyzed. We found that peak power clamping caused by NPR module led to pulse splitting, the pulse interaction through the Raman light drives the pulse to space equally.

Abstract:Pulsed fiber lasers with high repetition rates play a crucial role in applications such as high-efficiency processing and bio-optical imaging. However, many ring fiber mode-locked lasers primarily focus on shortening the cavity length to achieve high repetition rate pulse output. Attention is often directed towards the gain fiber and cavity structure, with less consideration given to the challenge of increasing mode-locking threshold power. In this study, we present a high-repetition-rate annular all-fiber laser system with dispersion management. Through strategic adjustment of the intracavity dispersion away from the near-zero dispersion region and careful control of the intracavity gain strength, we have successfully lowered the mode-locking threshold power. This approach can generate pulses with a repetition rate of 439.71 MHz and a mode-locking threshold power of approximately 600 mW. Following pulse compression, the achieved pulse width is 94.8 fs. Its time-bandwidth product is 0.368. To our knowledge, this represents the highest fundamental repetition rate currently attained using a ring all-fiber resonator, accompanied by the lowest mode-locking threshold. Our work introduces a ring fiber laser system characterized by a low mode-locking threshold and a high repetition rate, offering a valuable method for achieving higher fundamental repetition rate pulses.

Abstract:An actively mode-locked fiber ring laser with repetition rate of 10 GHz has been realized. Pulses train as short as 9 ps has been obtained at a wavelength of 1545 nm. The corresponding average output power was 1.6 mW. In addition, the optical fiber filter plays two roles in the fiber ring laser: wavelength selection and spectrum stabilization.

Abstract:We report a passive stabilization of the repetition rate for a mode-locked fiber laser by using an electro-optic modulator in a phase-biased nonlinear amplifying loop mirror. The underlying mechanism, in contrast to active feedback operations, lies in the cross-phase modulation between electrical and optical pulses within an electro-optic crystal. The resulting spectral shift can automatically compensate for the cavity-length drift via the group velocity dispersion. Consequently, the artificial actuator enables a capture range up to 2.3 mm, much longer than that achieved by index changes of the modulator. A robust and tight locking for the repetition rate is then realized with a standard deviation as low as 9 mu Hz with a 1-s sample time over 11 hours, corresponding to a fractional instability of 4.3 x 10(-13). Furthermore, a dynamic optical sampling by repetition-rate tuning has been manifested with a fast refresh rate at 100 kHz and a broad scanning range over 305 ps. The demonstrated passive servo action may provide a simple yet effective way to stabilize the repetition rate with high precision, large bandwidth, and wide tunability. Abstract:Mode-locked fiber laser with tunable repetition and pulse width is widely used in optical communication and measurement applications.Usually the repetition and pulse width of the active mode-locked fiber laser can not be tuned independently.It is difficult to shorten the pulse width for a given repetition.In this experiment,we use multiple frequency modulation mode-locking(MFM-ML)method to drive mode-locker.The signal which is mixed by sine wave and rectangular wave is used as drive signal.By changing the parameter of the signal we obtain 4 different output pulse respectively,the pulse width are 705 ps,500 ps,407 ps,330 ps.
