Abstract:The equations will be ill-conditioning when the polynomial order is large in the course of establishing structural frequency response function with rational fraction polynomials.To overcome the drawback a kind of improved discrete orthogonal polynomials have been proposed in fourier domain developed from relatives in real domain which not only overcomes the unnecessary computation incurred by negative frequencies but also makes the equations uncoupled.Overcoming this numerical problem has made this technique more effective.

Abstract:This paper introduces some properties of symmetric Laurent polynomials, and then extends Euclidean algorithm to symmetric Laurent polynomials. The new results are used to investigate factorization of polyphase matrix for biorthogonal finite filters. It is shown that there exists one and only one symmetric factorization of the polyphase matrix, and the symmetric factorization can be determined directly and efficiently by Euclidean algorithm for symmetric Laurent polynomials. Finally, symmetric implementation and matrix representation of biorthogonal wavelet transforms are introduced, and the study demonstrates that the symmetric implementation has the least multiplication number in all lifting implementations, and it is equivalent to a matrix transform on finite dimensional vector space.

Abstract:Wavelet analysis is a time-frequency analysis method, which assume multiple resolution and multiple analysis characteristics. Moreover, it has the function of characterization of localization of signal. Therefore, it is credited with telescope in the mathematics. Compact-support orthogonal wavelets have linear phase except the Haar wavelet, so th finite impulse signal is decomposed and reconstructed using biorthogonal wavelets by Mallat algorithm. Basing on the principle of the principle of wavelet transform equivalent to band-pass filer in fequency domain, it is filtered using wavelet transform in the time domain. A mathematical model is attained to demonstrate it. Results illustrate that the unwanted waveforms are basically suppressed. In the case the order problem of biorthogonal spline wavelets is discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, a new method is presented for designing M-band biorthogonal symmetric wavelets. The design problem of biorthogonal linear-phase scaling filters and wavelet filters as a quadratic programming problem with the linear constraints is formulated. The closed-form solution is given and a design example is presented.

Abstract:Biorthogonal multiple wavelets are generated from refinable function vectors by using the multiresolution analysis. Our characterizations are in the general setting and the main results of this paper are the real extensions of some known results.

Abstract:This paper presents a matrix factorization method for implementing orthonormal M-band wavelet reversible integer transforms. Based on an algebraic construction approach, the polyphase matrix of orthonormal M-band wavelet transforms can be factorized into a finite sequence of elementary reversible matrices that map integers to integers reversibly. These elementary reversible matrices can be further factorized into lifting matrices, thus we extend the classical lifting scheme to a more flexible framework.

Abstract:A new interpretation and applications of the 'Diophantine' and factorization properties of finite orthogonal polynomials in the Askey scheme are explored. The corresponding twelve polynomials are the ( q -)Racah, (dual, q -)Hahn, Krawtchouk and five types of q -Krawtchouk. These ( q -)hypergeometric polynomials, defined only for the degrees of 0,1,...,N , constitute the main part of the eigenvectors of N + 1-dimensional tri-diagonal real symmetric matrices, which correspond to the difference equations governing the polynomials. The monic versions of these polynomials all exhibit the 'Diophantine' and factorization properties at higher degrees than N . This simply means that these higher degree polynomials are zero-norm 'eigenvectors' of the N + 1-dimensional tri-diagonal real symmetric matrices. A new type of multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials belonging to these twelve polynomials could be introduced by using the higher degree polynomials as the seed solutions of the multiple Darboux transformations for the corresponding matrix eigenvalue problems. The shape-invariance properties of the simplest type of the multi-indexed polynomials are demonstrated. The explicit transformation formulas are presented.

Abstract:The symmetric biorthogonal low-pass filters of 4-band and the corresponding scaling functions are constructed by using the sum rules.Also,the symmetric or anti-symmetric biorthogonal wavelet filters of 4-band with high order vanishing moment and short support are obtained.Especially,the coefficients of filter constructed are all rational numbers and their denominators are all binary.Therefore,it is very convenient for these filters to be applied.At last,the smoothness index of the scaling functions constructed can be estimated by the method of Hanbin.

Abstract:The design and analysis of one-dimensional(1D) nearly-orthogonal symmetric wavelet filter banks has been studied. Methods for analyzing the correlation of the nearly-orthogonal filter banks are proposed. The basic idea is to impose multiple zeros at the aliasing frequency to a symmetric filter, minimize the deviation of the filter satisfying the orthogonal condition, then a nearly orthogonal filter bank can be obtained. Since multiple zeros are imposed, a scaling function may be generated from the minimized filter. The question is that what is the corresponding wavelet, since this nearly orthogonal filter bank is not perfect reconstructed. And besides, what is the degree of orthogonality of the wavelet bases. The way in this paper is to find a FIR complementary filter of the minimized filter and thus construct a perfect reconstructed biorthogonal filter bank. Then a corresponding wavelet filter bank can be generated and correlation analysis can also be conducted. The integer translates of the wavelet at the same scale is also nearly-orthogonal, the disadvantage is that orthogonal degree of the integer translates of the wavelet at different scale is lower than that of the semi-orthogonal filter bank.

Abstract:Polynomial factorization in conventional sense is an ill-posed problem due to its discontinuity with respect to coefficient perturbations, making it a challenge for numerical computation using empirical data. As a regularization, this paper formulates the notion of numerical factorization based on the geometry of polynomial spaces and the stratification of factorization manifolds. Furthermore, this paper establishes the existence, uniqueness, Lipschitz continuity, condition number, and convergence of the numerical factorization to the underlying exact factorization, leading to a robust and efficient algorithm with a MATLAB implementation capable of accurate polynomial factorizations using floating point arithmetic even if the coefficients are perturbed.

Abstract:This paper demonstrates how to explicitly construct a bidiagonal factorization of the banded recurrence matrix that appears in mixed multiple orthogonality on the step-line in terms of the coeffcients of the mixed multiple orthogonal polynomials. The construction is based on the $LU$ factorization of the moment matrix and Christoffel transformations applied to the matrix of measures and the associated mixed multiple orthogonal polynomials.

Abstract:Para-Hermitian polynomial matrices obtained by matrix spectral factorization lead to functions useful in control theory systems, basis functions in numerical methods or multiscaling functions used in signal processing. We introduce a fast algorithm for matrix spectral factorization based on Bauer$'$s method. We convert Bauer$'$ method into a nonlinear matrix equation (NME). The NME is solved by two different numerical algorithms (Fixed Point Iteration and Newton$'$s Method) which produce approximate scalar or matrix factors, as well as a symbolic algorithm which produces exact factors in closed form for some low-order scalar or matrix polynomial matrices, respectively. Convergence rates of the two numerical algorithms are investigated for a number of singular and nonsingular scalar and matrix polynomials taken from different areas. In particular, one of the singular examples leads to new orthogonal multiscaling and multiwavelet filters. Since the NME can also be solved as a Generalized Discrete Time Algebraic Riccati Equation (GDARE), numerical results using built-in routines in Maple 17.0 and 6 Matlab versions are presented.

Abstract:Parametric factorizations of linear partial operators on the plane are considered for operators of orders two, three and four. The operators are assumed to have a completely factorable symbol. It is proved that ``irreducible'' parametric factorizations may exist only for a few certain types of factorizations. Examples are given of the parametric families for each of the possible types. For the operators of orders two and three, it is shown that any factorization family is parameterized by a single univariate function (which can be a constant function).

Abstract:In this work, we develop two methods to obtain a factorisation as a product of bidiagonal matrices for the Hessenberg recurrence matrix of a system of multiple orthogonal polynomials. One method is based on the Gauss-Borel factorisation of the moment matrix of the system and of its Darboux transformations, and the other uses the connection of multiple orthogonal polynomials with production matrices and branched continued fractions. As a case study, we present an explicit bidiagonal factorisation for the Hessenberg recurrence matrix of the Jacobi-Piñeiro polynomials, using both methods, and of the multiple Laguerre polynomials of first kind, as a limiting case.

Abstract:A convergent algorithm for nonnegative matrix factorization with orthogonality constraints imposed on both factors is proposed in this paper. This factorization concept was first introduced by Ding et al. with intent to further improve clustering capability of NMF. However, as the original algorithm was developed based on multiplicative update rules, the convergence of the algorithm cannot be guaranteed. In this paper, we utilize the technique presented in our previous work to develop the algorithm and prove that it converges to a stationary point inside the solution space.

Abstract:This paper explores a factorization using bidiagonal matrices of the recurrence matrix of Hahn multiple orthogonal polynomials. The factorization is expressed in terms of ratios involving the generalized hypergeometric function ${}_3F_2$ and is proven using recently discovered contiguous relations. Moreover, employing the multiple Askey scheme, a bidiagonal factorization is derived for the Hahn descendants, including Jacobi-Piñeiro, multiple Meixner (kinds I and II), multiple Laguerre (kinds I and II), multiple Kravchuk, and multiple Charlier, all represented in terms of hypergeometric functions. For the cases of multiple Hahn, Jacobi-Piñeiro, Meixner of kind II, and Laguerre of kind I, where there exists a region where the recurrence matrix is nonnegative, subregions are identified where the bidiagonal factorization becomes a positive bidiagonal factorization.

Abstract:This paper proposes a new factorization algorithm for computing the phase factors of quantum signal processing. The proposed algorithm avoids root finding of high degree polynomials by using a key step of Prony's method and is numerically stable in the double precision arithmetics. Experimental results are reported for Hamiltonian simulation, eigenstate filtering, matrix inversion, and Fermi-Dirac operator.
