Abstract:Under the catalysis of anhydrous manganous chloride,p-methylphenylmagnesium chloride couplied with 2-chlorobenzonitrile to obtain high yield of 2-cyano-4′-methylbiphenyl in mixed solvent of THF and toluene,and the mixed solvent was recycled efficiently.

Abstract:4,4'-Bis(dimethoxyphosphonomethyl)-diphenyl was synthesized from trimethoxyfosfin and halogenated hydrocarbons.Effect of molar ratio,reaction time,temperature and amount of solvent on the yield was investigated.The experimental results showed that the yield of 4,4'-bis(dimethoxyphosphonomethyl)-diphenyl was about 91.5%,purity was 98.6% under the following conditions:dichloromethyl biphenyl∶trimethyl phosphite(molar ratio) was 3∶1,temperature was 110 ℃,time was 2 h and solventamount was 160 mL.

Abstract:1-Chloro-2,5-dimethoxybenzene was prepared from p-benzoquinone through chlorination and methylation with total yield of 78%. p-Benzoquinone was firstly converted catalytically to 1-chloro-2,5-dihydroxybenzene in the binary system of dichloroethane and hydrochloric acid at 35℃ with yield of 89%, then the final product was synthesized by methylation of obtained 1-chloro-2,5-dihydroxybenzene with dimethyl sulfate in the presence of sodium hydroxide. The intermediate 1-chloro-2,5-dihydroxybenzene and the obtained title compound 1-chloro-2,5-dimethoxybenzene were characterized by IR and GC-MS respectively. The results showed that their chemical structures were correct and the purity of title compound was over 98%.

Abstract:p-trifluoromethylbenzonitrile was prepared from p-(trifluoromethyl)chlorobenzene and potussium cyanide catalyzed by tris(triphenylphosphine)nickle(0), which was prepared from anhydrous NiCl2 and triphenylphosphine in the presence of zinc.And then, the produced intermideate, p-trifluoromethylbenzonitrile was treated with hydrogen sulfide to give p-(trifluoromethyl)thiobenzamide and the yield of 90% with the purity of 99.7% was obtained for the objective product.The structure is correct through IR and GC-MS testing.The operation process is simple and reaction condition is moderate.

Abstract:Improved synthesis of 4-benzylidene-2,6-di-tert-butylcyclohexa-2,5-dienone has been developed. The dropwise addition of secondary amines was shown to reduce the dosages of amines drastically. In optimized conditions, the dosages of the catalysts were only 0.3–0.5 M of 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol. Removing the water generated in the step of Mannich base formation was found to hugely accelerate the whole reaction and improve the product yield. The catalytic activity of several annular secondary amines including morpholine and piperidine in this reaction has been researched. Most of the amines led to good yields. Using this method, 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol reacted with a wide range of aromatic aldehydes to produce nine diverse 4-benzylidene-2,6-di-tert-butylcyclohexa-2,5-dienone derivatives of up to 75 % yield.

Abstract:A procedure for synthesis of 2-methoxyphenothiazine (1) has been developed, starting from resorcinol and aniline by condensation, following methylation and cyclization. p-Toluenesulfonic acid and polysubstituted aromatics were employed as the catalyst of condensation and the solvent of cyclization, respectively, to improve the yield. The use of parallel experiments, statistical experimental design, and multivariate modeling made the total yield of the procedure as high as 74.2%. J. Heterocyclic Chem., (2012).

Abstract:A convenient and efficient synthesis of 2-substituted benzo[b]thiophenes is described. This one-step reaction of alkylthiobenzaldehyde and activated electrophiles proceeded smoothly in toluene at 120 degrees C with magnesium oxide as a catalyst. The target 2-substituted benzo[b]thiophenes are obtained in moderate yields and the side reaction is inhibited via azeotropic distillation. According to the experiments, a plausible mechanism is presented.

Abstract:The chloromethylation reaction of 2-chloro-thiophene via phase transfer catalysis was carried out to synthesize 2-chloro-3-chloromethyl-thiophene, where the catalyst was tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB). The chloromethylation reagents used were paraformaldehyde and 37% concentrated hydrochloric acid. The structure of 2-chloro-3-chloromethyl-thiophene was confirmed by means of GC-MAS, IR and ^1H NMR spectrometries. The yield was 77.6%. The O-alkylation reactions between 1-(2,4-dichloro-phenyl)-2-(1-imidazol)-ethanol and 2-chloro-3-chloromethyl-thiophene were performed in a two -phase system of organic solvent/solid NaOH under phase transfer catalytic condition. At the end, the tioconazole nitrate was formed by the addition of nitric acid. The structure of tioconazole was confirmed with IR and ^1H NMR spectra. The yield of tioconazole was 53.0%.

Abstract:A facile and efficient domino cyclization between 3-aminocoumarins and arylglyoxal monohydrates in the presence of para-toluenesulfonic acid (p-TSA) as a promoter was employed for the synthesis of two libraries of chromeno[3,4-b]pyrrol-4(3H)-one derivatives. Simple workup procedures were used to obtain the products in moderate to excellent yields. The solvents toluene and ethanol served important roles in the selective formation of the pyrrolocoumarin derivatives characterized by their different substitution patterns.

Abstract:4-Methoxy-3-halogenated biphenyl was synthesized from p-dimethoxybenzidine via diazotization at -5～0℃ and Sandmeyer reaction with cuprous bromide or cuprous chloride at 90℃,some factors affected the reaction, such as the material ratio, the reaction time and temperature were discussed. The structure of the product was confirmed by melting point, IR and ~1HNMR.The resultsshow that the total yield of 3-chloro-4-methoxybiphenyl synthesized by this preparation procedure was 63% and 3-bromo-4-methoxybiphenyl was 51%.

Abstract:A novel method for carbamate-directed meta -C-H bond arylation of biphenyl derivatives employing diaryliodonium salts as the arylation agents was explored. Consequently, the Scholl reaction was utilized to cyclize the product, yielding 21 varieties of multifunctional triphenylene derivatives. The maximum yield achieved through this two-step process was 94%, offering an efficient synthesis route for the production of multi-substituted triphenylene derivatives.

Abstract:A novel approach to the synthesis of 2,2′,3,3′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride is described. The target compound was prepared by a nickel-catalyzed coupling reaction of dimethy 3-chlorophthalate (3-DMCP) for 4 h at 70–80 °C, followed by subsequent hydrolysis of tetra-ester in acid solution and dehydration of tetra-acid, with overall yield of 68%. The structures of the products were characterized by IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR respectively.

Abstract:Two dicyanopyridine derivatived compounds (I) (C14H10N4) and (II) (C15H16N4) were synthesized with high yields from each reaction of benzylidene malononitrile with dichloride zinc directly in methanol or ethanol solvent . Both the compounds were characterized by NMR, IR, ESI, elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Investigation of intermolecular interaction via Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that these close contacts are mainly ascribed to N-H···N hydrogen bonding. Frontier molecular orbital and natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis shows that compound (I) and (II) possess a relatively higher kinetic stability. Two Efficient Methods for the Preparation of 2-Chloro-6-methylbenzoic Acid

Abstract:Two efficient methods for the preparation of 2-chloro-6-methylbenzoic acid were developed: one based on nucleophilic aromatic substitution and the other based on carbonylation. In the first approach, 2-chloro-6-fluorobenzaldehyde was converted to its n-butylimine, then treated with 2 equiv of methylmagnesium chloride in THF to give, after hydrolysis, 2-chloro-6-methylbenzaldehyde. Subsequent oxidation of this compound gave the title compound in 85% overall yield. In the second approach, 3-chloro-2-iodotoluene was efficiently carbonylated in methanol to give methyl 2-chloro-6-methylbenzoate, which after hydrolysis afforded the title compound in 94% yield (84% yield after recrystallization). The carbomethoxylation proceeded smoothly even at a high substrate-to-Pd ratio of 10 000. Both methods do not require isolation of intermediates and are suitable for the preparation of kilogram quantities of 2-chloro-6-methylbenzoic acid.

Abstract:Benzothieno[2,3-b]thiophenes, [2,3-b:3′,2′-d]-dithienothiophenes, and their selenium derivatives were synthesized in good yields from readily available 3-ethynyllithio-benzo[b]thiophenyllithio compounds, sulfur or selenium, and 2equiv of acid chlorides. Two heteroarene rings were constructed by a twofold cyclization via an acid chloride-induced electrophilic ring closing and the McMurry cyclization using Zn/TiCl4 reagents.

Abstract:Using 2-amino-3-substituted benzoic acid as starting material, 4,5-disubstituted phenanthrene derivatives were synthesized via sequential reactions of diazotization-coupling reaction, esterification, reduction, oxidation and cyclization, and using reduced biphenyl intermediates as starting materials. 4,5-Disubstituted 9,10-dihydrophenanthrene derivatives were synthesized via sequential reactions of bromination, grinard reaction, using 4,5-disubstituted phenanthrene and 4,5-disubstituted 9,10-dihydrophenanthrene derivatives as starting materials. Liquid crystal monomer compounds were synthesized via sequential reactions of halogenations and coupling reaction, and the chemical structures of products were identified by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR spectra.

Abstract:New π-conjugated oligomers (1–3) combined of thiophene rings, CC units, and phenylene rings were synthesized. The monomer (1) was synthesized by Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction. Lithiation and oxidation of the monomer led to the formation of dimer (2) and trimer (3). Optical and electrochemical properties of compounds 1–3 were studied.
