Abstract:Recently Freed and Hopkins [11] proved that there is no parity anomaly in M-theory on pin(+) manifolds in the low-energy field theory approximation, and they also developed an algebraic theory of cubic forms. Earlier Witten [33] proved the anomaly cancellation for spin manifolds by introducing the E-8-bundle technique. Motivated by the cubic forms and the anomaly cancellation formulas of Witten-Freed-Hopkins, we give some new cubic forms on spin, spinc(e), spin(omega 2) and orientable 12-manifolds respectively. We relate them to eta-invariants when the manifolds are with boundary, and mod 2 indices on 10 dimensional characteristic submanifolds when the manifolds are spinc or spin(omega 2). Our method of producing these cubic forms is a combination of (generalized) Witten classes and the character of the basic representation of affine E-8. (C) 2021 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Abstract:We study a family of moduli spaces and corresponding quantum invariants introduced recently by Fan-Jarvis-Ruan. The family has a wall-and-chamber structure relative to a positive rational parameter is an element of. For a Fermat quasi-homogeneous polynomial W (not necessarily of Calabi-Yau type), we study natural generating functions packaging the invariants. Our wall-crossing formula relates the generating functions by showing that they all lie on the Lagrangian cone associated to the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten theory of W. For arbitrarily small parameter is an element of, a specialization of our generating function is a hypergeometric series called the big I-function which determines the entire Lagrangian cone. As a special case of our wall-crossing, we obtain a new geometric interpretation of the Landau-Ginzburg mirror theorem.

Abstract:We extend our earlier work in [TZ1], where an analytic approach to the Guillemin-Sternberg conjecture [GS] was developed, to cases where the Spin^c-complex under consideration is allowed to be further twisted by certain exterior power bundles of the cotangent bundle. The main result is a weighted quantization formula in the presence of commuting Hamiltonian actions. The corresponding Morse-type inequalities in holomorphic situations are also established.

Abstract:Let $M$ be a complex manifold with boundary $X$, which admits a holomorphic Lie group $G$-action preserving $X$. We establish a full asymptotic expansion for the $G$-invariant Bergman kernel under certain assumptions. As an application, we get $G$-invariant version of Fefferman's result about regularity of biholomorphic maps on strongly pseudoconvex domains of $\mathbb C^n$. Moreover, we show that the Guillemin-Sternberg map on a complex manifold with boundary is Fredholm by developing reduction to boundary technique, which establish ``quantization commutes with reduction" in this case.

Abstract:We construct a generalized Witten genus for spin$^c$ manifolds, which takes values in level 1 modular forms with integral Fourier expansion on a class of spin$^c$ manifolds called string$^c$ manifolds. We also construct a mod 2 analogue of the Witten genus for $8k+2$ dimensional spin manifolds. The Landweber-Stong type vanishing theorems are proven for the generalized Witten genus and the mod 2 Witten genus on string$^c$ and string (generalized) complete intersections in (product of) complex projective spaces respectively.

Abstract:To a complex symplectic manifold X we associate a canonical quantization algebroid. Our construction is similar to that of Polesello-Schapira's deformation-quantization algebroid, but the deformation parameter is no longer central. If X is compact, the triangulated category of regular holonomic quantization modules is a linear complex Calabi-Yau category of dimension 1 + dim X.

Abstract:We construct a mod 2 analogue of the Witten genus for 8k+2 dimensional spin manifolds, as well as modular characteristic numbers for a class of spinc manifolds which we call stringc manifolds. When these spinc manifolds are actually spin, one recovers the original Witten genus on string manifolds. These genera vanish on string and stringc complete intersections respectively in complex projective spaces.

We prove a quantization-commutes-with-reduction theorem in this context. Quantum modularity for a closed hyperbolic 3-manifold

Abstract:This paper proves quantum modularity of both functions from $\mathbb{Q}$ and $q$-series associated to the closed manifold obtained by $-1/2$ surgery on the figure-eight knot, $4_1(-1,2)$. In a sense, this is a companion to work of Garoufalidis-Zagier where similar statements were studied in detail for some simple knots. It is shown that quantum modularity for closed manifolds provides a unification of Chen-Yang's volume conjecture with Witten's asymptotic expansion conjecture. Additionally we show that $4_1(-1,2)$ is a counter-example to previous conjectures relating the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev invariant and the $\widehat{Z}(q)$ series. This could be reformulated in terms of a "strange identity", which gives a volume conjecture for the $\widehat{Z}$ invariant. Using factorisation of state integrals, we give conjectural but precise $q$-hypergeometric formulae for generating series of Stokes constants of this manifold. We find that the generating series of Stokes constants is related to the 3d index of Dimofte-Gaiotto-Gukov of $4_1(-1,2)$ proposed by Gang-Yonekura. This extends the equivalent conjecture of Garoufalidis-Gu-Mariño for knots to closed manifolds. This work appeared in a similar form in the author's thesis.

Abstract:In this paper, we define the spectral Einstein functional associated with the sub-signature operator for manifolds with boundary. Motivated by the spectral Einstein functional and the sub-signature operator, we relate them to the noncommutative residue for manifolds with boundary. And we give the proof of the Dabrowski-Sitarz-Zalecki type theorems for the spectral Einstein functional associated with the sub-signature operator on 4-dimensional manifolds with boundary.

Abstract:We observe a general structure theorem for quantum cohomology rings, a non-homogeneous version of the usual cohomology ring encoding information about (almost holomorphic) rational curves. An application is the rigorous computation of the quantum cohomology of Grassmannians. As purely algebraic consequence we prove a beautiful formula of Vafa and Intriligator for intersection numbers of certain compactifications of moduli spaces of maps from a Riemann surface (any genus) to G(k,n) which recently has excited many mathematicians. The formula generalizes to any Fano manifold whose cohomology ring can be presented as complete intersection.
On deformation quantization of the space of connections on a two manifold and Chern Simons Gauge Theory

Abstract:We use recent progress on Chern-Simons gauge theory in three dimensions [18] to give explicit, closed form formulas for the star product on some functions on the affine space ${\mathcal A}(\Sigma)$ of (smooth) connections on the trivialized principal $G$-bundle on a compact, oriented two manifold $\Sigma.$ These formulas give a close relation between knot invariants, such as the Kauffman bracket polynomial, and the Jones and HOMFLY polynomials, arising in Chern Simons gauge theory, and deformation quantization of ${\mathcal A}(\Sigma).$ This relation echoes the relation between the manifold invariants of Witten [20] and Reshetikhin-Turaev [16] and {\em geometric} quantization of this space (or its symplectic quotient by the action of the gauge group). In our case this relation arises from explicit algebraic formulas arising from the (mathematically well-defined) functional integrals of [18].

Abstract:We compute the quantum cohomology of symplectic flag manifolds. Symplectic flag manifolds can be described by non-abelian GLSMs with superpotential. Although the ring relations cannot be directly read off from the equations of motion on the Coulomb branch due to complication introduced by the non-abelian gauge symmetry, it can be shown that they can be extracted from the localization formula in a gauge-invariant form. Our result is general for all symplectic flag manifolds, which reduces to previously established results on symplectic Grassmannians and complete symplectic flag manifolds derived by other means. We also explain why a (0,2) deformation of the GLSM does not give rise to a deformation of the quantum cohomology.

Quantum dilogarithms over local fields and invariants of 3-manifolds

Abstract:To each local field (including the real or complex numbers) we associate a quantum dilogarithm and show that it satisfies a pentagon identity and some symmetries. Using an angled version of these quantum dilogarithms, we construct three generalized TQFTs in 2+1 dimensions, one given by a face state-integral and two given by edge state-integrals. Their partition functions rise to distributional invariants of 3-manifolds with torus boundary, conjecturally related to point counting of the $A$-polynomial curve. The partition function of one of these face generalized TQFTs for the case of the real numbers can be expressed either as a multidimensional Barnes-Mellin integral or as a period on a curve which is conjecturally the $A$-polynomial curve.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the compactness of a boundary value problem for hyperkaehler 4-manifolds. We show that under certain topological conditions and the positive mean curvature condition on the boundary, a sequence of hyperkaehler triples converges smoothly up to diffeomorphisms if and only if their restrictions to the boundary converge smoothly up to diffeomorphisms. We also generalize this result to torsion-free hypersymplectic triples.

Families of Quintic Calabi-Yau 3-Folds with Discrete Symmetries

Abstract:At special loci in their moduli spaces, Calabi-Yau manifolds are endowed with discrete symmetries. Over the years, such spaces have been intensely studied and have found a variety of important applications. As string compactifications they are phenomenologically favored, and considerably simplify many important calculations. Mathematically, they provided the framework for the first construction of mirror manifolds, and the resulting rational curve counts. Thus, it is of significant interest to investigate such manifolds further. In this paper, we consider several unexplored loci within familiar families of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces that have large but unexpected discrete symmetry groups. By deriving, correcting, and generalizing a technique similar to that of Candelas, de la Ossa and Rodriguez-Villegas, we find a calculationally tractable means of finding the Picard-Fuchs equations satisfied by the periods of all 3-forms in these families. To provide a modest point of comparison, we then briefly investigate the relation between the size of the symmetry group along these loci and the number of nonzero Yukawa couplings. We include an introductory exposition of the mathematics involved, intended to be accessible to physicists, in order to make the discussion self-contained.

Abstract:Given a polynomial P of partial derivatives of the Kahler metric, expressed as a linear combination of directed multigraphs, we prove a simple criterion in terms of the coefficients for P to be an invariant polynomial, i.e. invariant under the transformation of coordinates. As applications, we prove an explicit composition formula for covariant differential operators under a canonical basis, also known as invariant differential operators in the case of bounded symmetric domains. We also prove a general explicit formula of star products on Kahler manifolds.
