Abstract:Objective:To explore the outcomes of primary stenting for treatment of symptomatic vertebral origin steno-sis. Methods :We advanced balloon-expandable stent catheter across the vertebral origin stenosis ,then inflated the balloon anddeployed the stent in order to normallze the stenotic lumen. Results:For 18 patients presented with posterior circulation is-chemia symptoms and were refractory to medical therapy, primary stenting were technically successful in all cases. The meandegree of preoperative stenosis and postoperative were 72.5% and 13.3% respectively. At follow-up,clinical symptoms wereresolved in 15 cases, improved clinically in 2 cases, remained stable in 1 case. There was no intimal dissection and distal em-bolization. Short-term follow-up angiogram suggested no restenosis and hyperplasia. Conclusion :Early results of intraluminalstenting for symptomatic vertebral origin artery stenosis is romising, and long-term clinical and angiographic follow-up is needed.
