Abstract:By constructing the evaluation index system and selecting the cross-sectional data of 31 provinces and autonomous regions in 2005 and 2010,using methods of principal component analysis,order degree and coordination degree model,a quantitative analysis on coordinating development of higher education-population-economic system was conducted from the views of developing level,order degree in a single system and coordinating degree between systems.The research shows that regional higher education development is significantly different,the development level of the higher education system and economic system is relatively better than the population system.Each system's order degree has been slightly improved.The economic system's order degree is the highest,followed by higher education system,and then the population system.Coordinating degree of the region among three systems is significantly different,higher education-economic system's coordinating degree is significantly higher than higher education-population system's.For promoting a virtuous cycle and coordinating development of higher education,population and economy,inconsistent factors should be considered to eliminate from the coordination evolution of higher education and economy,higher education and population and higher education-population-economy system.

Abstract:According to the development of higher education,this paper emphatically explores the relationship evolution of higher education scale and economic growth from scale and geographical distribution since the expansion of China's universities.The empirical study proves that with economic growth,the rate of China's higher educational population needs improving urgently and higher education potential scale still have larger growth space.The higher education scale can make corresponding adjustments to keep pace with economic growth,which has more and more high sensitivity.Higher education population gravity and economic gravity run mostly in the same direction in geographical spatial distribution,and they all have southward trend.Meanwhile,their migration distance is shrinking,and the growing speed of higher education scale tends to be stable.

Abstract:The problem of equity and efficiency is one of the important problems in the development of higher education in many countries. It is generally thought that equity and efficiency can be integrated theoretically and macrocosmically, and can keep harmonious and maintaining development. However, they are usually contradictory microcosmically and practically, and seem to be a problem in dilemma that cannot be reconciled. The equity and efficiency of provincial higher education in China is a typical and concrete problem to which we should pay more attention at present. In this paper, through making some statistical and correlation analysis of the indexes in 1990 and 2000, which reflect the development condition of higher education, and economy in China, we review the development and change features of the equity and efficiency of area higher education in 1990s in China , and make a demonstrational analysis and evaluation of the equity and efficiency of higher education in China from 1990 to 2000 by revealing the quantitative relation between them, then propose some relevant countermeas-ures and suggestion to the further development of higher education in China in the future.

Abstract:This study explored the relationship between education and the economy in China, focusing on 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions from 2012 to 2023. It developed an appropriate evaluation model to assess the coupling and collaborative development of the 'higher education and economy' composite system. The study quantified both the quantity and quality of higher education modernization in China using the entropy-weight method and a comprehensive development- level evaluation model. The coupling-coordination degree model was applied to empirically analyze the internal logic, operating mechanisms, and coupling-coordination degree between the supply of higher education and the demand for high-quality regional economic development within the context of the new development pattern. Additionally, the obstacle degree model was introduced to identify factors hindering the coupling and coordination of higher education and regional economic development across 31 provinces and municipalities. The findings revealed that (1) the modernization levels of higher education exhibited fluctuating yet overall upward trends, with the eastern region leading. Economic development followed a similar upward trajectory, with the eastern region outperforming other areas. (2) The coupling coordination between higher education and economic development followed a 'rising-falling-rising' pattern. (3) The higher education system emerged as the primary obstacle to coupling coordination, with specific challenges varying across different regions.

Abstract:With the increase in regional economic development disparities, a regional coordinated development strategy is put forward that prioritizes human welfare and holistic social progress over a purely materialistic growth model. To address the challenges of balanced regional development, this paper has developed a multidimensional assessment framework of social development encompassing education, healthcare, culture, and social security. Using the entropy weight TOPSIS method, this study measures the social development level across 296 Chinese prefecture-level cities from 1990 to 2020. It explores the spatio-temporal evolution characteristics of China's social development level through the Dagum Gini coefficient decomposition method and exploratory spatial data analysis. The results indicate that (1) the level of social development in China exhibits a fluctuating upward trend over the time series, showing a phase-wise pattern of decline–rise–rise; (2) there is a clear heterogeneity in the level of social development, with a general hierarchy of Eastern, Northeastern, Western, and Central regions in terms of social development; (3) spatially, China's social development level has evolved from a patchy distribution in 1990 to a clustered distribution around urban agglomerations by 2020, with pronounced characteristics of spatial imbalance; (4) the level of social development in China displays varying degrees of spatial clustering, with this trend intensifying over time; and (5) over the period 1990–2020, the overall disparity in China's social development level presents a fluctuating trend, with a notable reduction after an initial increase, and regional disparities following the order of Central, Western, Eastern, and Northeastern regions. This research offers valuable insights for policymakers and scholars seeking to understand and enhance China's social development landscape.

Abstract:The scale and quality of higher education are key indicators of a country's development level and its potential for future growth. This study utilizes literature analysis and the core functions of higher education institutions to construct an evaluation index system for the modernization level of higher education in China, using data from 2012 to 2022. The results reveal the following: (1) From 2012 to 2022, the modernization level of higher education across China's 31 provinces generally increased, despite some fluctuations. Beijing consistently maintained the highest level of modernization, while Hainan demonstrated the fastest growth rate. (2) The modernization level of higher education exhibited uneven distribution across the provinces: eleven provinces were at a low level, eight at a moderate level, eight at a relatively high level, and four at a high level. (3) The development level of higher education modernization shows a clear correlation with geographic location and economic development, characterized by a distinct 'high in the east, low in the west' pattern. (4) There is a urgent need to enhance the internationalization of higher education development in China. (5) The overall index of higher education development in China displayed a slow decline with fluctuations from 2012 to 2022, reflecting ongoing efforts toward balanced development across the 31 provinces and cities. The most significant disparities in higher education development remain between the western and eastern regions.

Abstract:To promote the coordinated development of high quality postgraduate education and economy is the realization of all-round construction of the socialist modernization of China power.Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2009 to 2021, this paper constructs the index of graduate education and high-quality economic development respectively, and analyzes it by coupling coordination model, kernel density estimation and spatial Markov chain model.The results show that: first, the postgraduate education and the high economic quality of most provinces in China are matched, but there is a significant difference between the eastern and western regions in their collaborative development; Second, the level of synergistic development between graduate education and high economic quality is low, and the central and northeastern regions are seriously divided, but the differences in synergistic effects between different regions are narrowing.Third, according to the results of trend prediction, there is the coexistence of "beggar-thy-neighbor" and "good-neighborliness", and it is difficult to achieve leapfrog coordinated development.Therefore, it is proposed to pay attention to the high-quality economic development to provide a rich material basis for graduate education, the change of graduate education structure should adapt to the needs of high-quality economic development, and implement different reform measures in different regions to promote the comprehensive construction of a modern socialist country.

Abstract:The paper analyzed the current status and policy evolution of international education industry in China based on statistical data of the education market scale, source countries, education levels and study subjects. It is found that the international education in China has undergone three major stages, including the stage of “unified national management dominated by politics”, the stage of “exploration of the model for self-financed study abroad”, and the stage of “all-round open development”. The achievements of international education industry are closely related to the key policies in the 3 stages. The research shows that the scale of international education in China is basically the same as that in the developed countries but there exists a big import and export deficit since China has slightly smaller international market share. Asian and African countries are the main sending countries of international students, and students from these countries prefer to receive academic education in China than those from Europe and America. In terms of major subjects, Chinese language and literature are still the main subjects, but engineering, economics and management are becoming more popular. Finally, suggestions are made on how to further expand the international education market and optimize the international education structure in China.
A Measure of China's High-quality Economic Development

Abstract:During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, continuous promotion of high-quality economic development is the core driving force of economic and social development. Taking the five major development concepts as the core, this paper studies the five dimensions of innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing in 30 provinces in China in 2020, sets up 14 standard layer measurement standards, 21 specific measurement indicators, and comprehensively evaluates the level of high-quality economic development based on the two-stage factor analysis method, and finds that the overall level of high-quality economic development in 30 provinces in China is low, and the comprehensive score of 60% of the provinces is negative. At the same time, the level of high-quality development of China's economy also faces the problem of unbalanced regional development in space, and the development pattern of "high in the east, low in the west, high in the coastal area and low in the inland" in the region. In addition, the development perspectives of each province in China also have different emphases, uneven development, and relevant policy recommendations are drawn for the analysis conclusions.

Abstract:Under the background of the rapid development of innovation economy promoted by education science and technology, this paper uses the DEA Malmquist index model to build an evaluation index system based on the research object of the Education Science and technology industry of 31 provinces in China from 2010 to 2019. It makes a static analysis of its input–output efficiency from the aspects of comprehensive efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency. Also, the Malmquist index method is used to analyse the changes of comprehensive efficiency, technical efficiency and technological progress. It is found that the development of the educational science and technology industry in different regions of China has its own characteristics. The efficiency of educational science and technology in some regions is good, but the growth rate slows down, and some efficiency lags behind, so there is a lot of space for improvement. On the whole, technological progress is an important factor affecting the change in total input–output efficiency. It is suggested that regional cooperation should be strengthened to optimise the allocation of educational science and technology resources. It should accelerate the deployment of next-generation technology to promote overall high-quality development.

Abstract:As the biggest developing country with the largest population in the world, China has made great achievements in education development, which has contributed tremendously to reducing poverty and boosting prosperity in the past decades. However, in the course of education development, many problems and issues have emerged, which have also been extensively studied by scholars in various fields in both China and international contexts. Among the myriad of research topics, three research foci stand out as the most concerning and studied: education return, education quality, and education equity. This paper draws on both international research literature and evidence from China to discuss education development issues including education return, education quality, and education equity, and suggests future directions for research and practice to enhance education development and to achieve a sustainable future.

Abstract:According to Human Capital Theory, higher education development is correlated with urbanization. Since the establishment of People's Republic of China, the scale of higher education and the level of urbanization have undergone four stages: overlapping synchronous growth, partially overlapping allometric decline, partially overlapping allometric growth and partially overlapping winged growth. Higher education scale and urbanization among provinces present inter-provincial variance, ranging from synchronization to out-of-synchronization. The within-province differences are obvious, while the regional pattern also show that eastern, central, western, and northeastern parts of China are different each other. According to education plan at the national and provincial level, and the main functional areas program across the country , the scale of higher education and urbanization should concordant the inter-province differences will continue, regional differences will be reduced.

Abstract:Education system is one of the major ways to accumulate human resource stock in a country of regin and also is an important base of economy development.The paper used the data in the year 2000 at the national level to study the relationship between education development stock and economy development by spatial econometrics method and the result shows that in China labor intensive economy is still obvious but the effective of human capital stock accumulated by education system can't be ignored.The effect of education development on economic development is different by gender and the male capital stock pays more important roles in economic development than female capital stock.The education development is not balanced and there are four kinds interdependent modes:H-H type,L-L type,H-L type and L-H type.Moreover,Spatial Error Model is more fittable than OLS model in studying spatial interdependent relationship between education development and economic development.

Abstract:The development of higher education and opening to the outside world are important factors in promoting China's economic growth. On the basis of clarifying the relationship between the three, based on the economic and social statistics of 290 prefecture-level and above cities in China from 2003 to 2018, this paper constructs a panel model to test the role of higher education development on regional economic growth and the mediating role of urban opening up between the two. The study found that: in the past 15 years, the improvement of the development level of higher education can not only directly promote the growth of the regional economy, but also indirectly promote the growth of the regional economy by improving the level of urban opening to the outside world. It is suggested that the high-quality development of higher education should be continuously promoted, and the opening-up efforts should be increased in order to achieve the strategic goal of high-quality economic and social development.

Abstract:Education has the purpose of serving economic and social development, and the efficiency of resource allocation in the higher education system has become an important factor affecting the quality of economic development. Based on the panel data of China's higher education from 2014 to 2023, the adoption of data envelopment analysis (DEA) model was used to evaluate the efficiency of China's higher education resource allocation. The evaluation results show that China's higher education resource allocation efficiency has not reached the effective state of DEA, but the overall level is high; there are certain differences in the higher education resource allocation efficiency in different regions; the negative growth of China's higher education resource allocation efficiency is obvious, and technological progress is the main factor hindering the improvement of total factor production efficiency. Therefore, based on the relevant policies, this paper puts forward rationalization suggestions for the improvement of the allocation efficiency of higher education resources in China from the perspectives of human, financial and material resources.

Abstract:Higher education institutions, as important cultural centers in their regions, also play an important role in promoting local economic and social development. However, due to the imbalance of regional development, the efficiency of higher education in China also varies significantly between different regions. Therefore, based on the perspective of meeting the needs of regional social and economic development, the paper analyzes the efficiency and trend of regional higher education in China by DEA method using panel data from 31 provinces and cities in China from 2016 to 2019.The results show that the overall efficiency of higher education in China is in a non-DEA effective state, and the urgent task is to rationally allocate and optimize the structure of higher education resources among regions. At the same time, the development of higher education in China shows a significant pattern of unbalanced development, and it is urgent to formulate reasonable and optimized development strategies according to the characteristics of social and economic development in different regions and their reality.
