Abstract:The identity is an important variable of national security. The essence of national security being threatened lies in the political escalation and social reconstruction of an international or domestic public problem through an operation of securitization. Based on an introduction to Samuel P. Huntington's book, Who Are We?, this paper positively affirms an original significance of his theoretical efforts to "securitize" "the identity crisis," and as well levels a criticism at his some "mistakes" in thought of "the identity crisis." In our day "the subnational identity" and "the transnational identity" are directly challenging "the national identity", thus invoking the problem of national security. It is of a positive guiding significance for the world to meet the challenge of "identity crisis" to national security and set up a Chinese theoretical pattern of "harmonism" and a nationalsecurity model of "joint building-up in harmony and cooperation."
