Abstract:Global oil & gas development projects are typically characterized by huge investment, high risk, complicated social relationships and political intervention, which make cross- culture management in global oil & gas development projects more difficult and important than in other projects. Besides internal conditions that change during the implementation process, global oil & gas development projects also face a complicated political, economic and cultural environment in the host country encountered in contact with local social organizations. What global oil & gas development projects focus on in their cross-culture management is the difference in culture plus potential confrontation in work, with special stress laid upon putting aside cultural differences to create harmony and synergy within projects and, ultimately, shape a highly flexible and seamless culture within projects. Efforts made to support cross-culture management in global oil & gas development projects include building up a cross-culture training system; perfecting the personnel system by recruiting qualified employees worldwide while increasing the proportion of local people employed by projects; establishing efficient platforms for cultural communication and exchange; and putting in place flexible management and incentive mechanisms.
