Abstract:Floquet's Theorem is a celebrated result in the theory of ordinary differential equations. Essentially, the theorem states that, when studying a linear differential system with $T$-periodic coefficients, we can apply a, possibly complex, $T$-periodic change of variables that transforms it into a linear system with constant coefficients. In this paper, we explore further the question of the nature of this change of variables. We state necessary and sufficient conditions for it to be real and $T$-periodic. Failing those conditions, we prove that we can still find a real change of variables that is "partially" $T$-periodic and "partially" $T$-antiperiodic. We also present applications of this new form of Floquet's Theorem to the study of the behavior of solutions of nonlinear differential systems near periodic orbits.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the following autonomous system of differential equations: $\dot x = Ax + f(x,\theta ), \dot \theta = \omega $. where θ ∈ ℝm, ω=(ω1...,ωm) ∈ ℝm, x ∈ ℝn, A ∈ ℝn×n is a constant matrix and is hyperbolic, f is a C∞ function in both variables and 2π-periodic in each component of the vector θ which satisfies f-O(‖x‖2) as x → 0. We study the normal form of this system and prove that under some proper conditions this system can be transformed to an autonomous system: $\dot x = Ax + g(x), \dot \theta = \omega $ Additionally, the proof of this paper naturally implies the extension of Chen’s theory in the quasiperiodic case.
Floquet Eigenspectra of a Nonlinear Two-Mode System under Periodic Driving: the Emergence of Ring Structures

Abstract:We study Floquet eigenspectra of a nonlinear two-mode system under a periodic driving of the off-diagonal coupling. By solving the Gross-Pitaevskii equation numerically, we obtain triangular and loop structures near the crossings of different Floquet branches. At lower driving frequencies, we find "ring" and "double-ring" structures which are distinct from the well-known loop structure. The mechanism of the emergence of these structures is discussed and the parameter windows of their existence are obtained analytically. In addition, we study the evolution of the system under the driving with an adiabatic sweep and find there are some dynamically unstable states in the Floquet eigenspectra which break the quantum adiabaticity.

Abstract:To reduce the model order of discrete time LTI system,a new method without the limitation of stability was proposed.By using bilinear trsformation between discrete time systems and continuous time systems,a continuous time model order-reducted method was extended to discrete time systems.An upper bound of the model order-reducted error was given.Finally,a numerical example show the effectiveness of this method.

Abstract:Many engineering problems can be modelled as linear periodic time-varying (LPTV) systems, which naturally leads to the need for model order reduction of LPTV systems. This paper investigates a new model order reduction method for discrete LPTV systems. First, the state-space realization in the Fourier-lifted form of discrete LPTV system is constructed by representing periodic matrices in exponentially modulated periodic (EMP) Fourier series. By using Laguerre functions to expand the transfer function of the resulting Fourier-lifted system, the corresponding model order reduction algorithm is developed. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm is used to reduce the discrete LPTV system in the standard-lifted form. Theoretical analysis indicates that the transfer functions of both reduced order systems can match a certain number of moments. Finally, two numerical examples are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:Inthis paper, we consider the reducibility of a class of nonlinear almost periodic Hamiltonian systems. Under suitable hypothesis of analyticity, non-resonant conditions and non-degeneracy conditions, by using KAM iteration, it is shown that the considered Hamiltonian system is reducible to an almost periodic Hamiltonian system with zero equilibrium points for most small enough parameters. As an example, we discuss the reducibility and stability of an almost periodic Hill's equation.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish the reducibility of a class of linear coupled quantum harmonic oscillator systems under time quasi-periodic, non-Hamiltonian, reversible perturbations. This essentially means that for most values of the frequency vector, these systems can be reduced to autonomous reversible systems with constant coefficients with respect to time. Our proof relies on an application of Kolmogorov–Arnold–Moser (KAM) theory for infinite dimensional reversible systems.

Abstract:In this paper it is proved that the period function of reversible Lotka-Volterra quadratic systems is monotone, unless the associated center is isochronous. For this class of quadratic systems, the traditional criterion function on the monotonicity of period function does not work, we improve the criterion function to new different forms such that it can be used for different values of the parameters in the system. Furthermore, to overcome the difficulty that the exponential function of the parameter appears in the first integral, in our study we combine the analytic expressions with their geometric meanings and symbolic computations. These methods may be used for other problems.

Abstract:The parameterization method has demonstrated remarkable efficacy in the construction of reduced order models for nonlinear dynamical systems, which are mostly applied to depict the dynamics near a fixed point or a forced periodic solution perturbed from it. In this paper, we develop a method based on direct linear algebra to construct reduced order models around the limit cycles of high dimensional autonomous self-excited nonlinear systems. In particular, Taylor–Fourier series is adopted to parameterize the invariant manifold around a periodic solution of the self-excited systems. The basic theory and derivation of equations are presented in terms of matrices and Kronecker product, which benefits computer implementation and enhances computational efficiency. Two approaches to solve co-homological equations based on Floquet normal form and direct linear algebra are introduced and compared. The method based on Floquet normal form proves to be impossible to be applied in the high dimensional cases due to the extensive computing consumption. To facilitating the implementation, an iterative formula for the series expansion of generic nonlinear functions by composition of elementary function is also proposed. The reduced order models of a self-excited wing model, a rotor-stator rubbing model and a FEM rotor model are constructed. It is shown that the proposed approaches are valuable in predicting responses of high-dimensional self-excited nonlinear systems and can greatly reduce the computational costs.

Abstract:We review a recent generalization of Normal Form Theory to systems (Hamiltonian ones or general ODEs) where the perturbing term is not periodic in one coordinate variable. The main difference with the standard case relies on the non uniqueness of the Normal Form and the total absence of the small divisors problem. The exposition is quite general, so as to allow extensions to the case of more non--periodic coordinates, and more functional settings. Here, for simplicity, we work in the real--analytic class.

Abstract:We present a version of the classical Floquet-Lyapunov theorem for $\omega-$periodic nonautonomous linear (impulsive and non-impulsive) differential equations with piecewise constant arguments of generalized type (in short, IDEPCAG or DEPCAG). We have proven that the nonautonomous linear IDEPCAG is kinematically similar to an autonomous linear ordinary differential equation. We have also provided some examples to demonstrate the effectiveness of our results.

Abstract:We extend the theory of spectral submanifolds (SSMs) to general non-autonomous dynamical systems that are either weakly forced or slowly varying. Examples of such systems arise in structural dynamics, fluid–structure interactions, and control problems. The time-dependent SSMs we construct under these assumptions are normally hyperbolic and hence will persist for larger forcing and faster time dependence that are beyond the reach of our precise existence theory. For this reason, we also derive formal asymptotic expansions that, under explicitly verifiable nonresonance conditions, approximate SSMs and their aperiodic anchor trajectories accurately for stronger, faster, or even temporally discontinuous forcing. Reducing the dynamical system to these persisting SSMs provides a mathematically justified model- reduction technique for non-autonomous physical systems whose time dependence is moderate either in magnitude or speed. We illustrate the existence, persistence, and computation of temporally aperiodic SSMs in mechanical examples under chaotic forcing.

A Novel Order Reduction Method for Nonlinear Dynamical System under External Periodic Excitations

Abstract:The concept of approximate inertial manifold (AIM) is extended to develop a kind of nonlinear order reduction technique for non-autonomous nonlinear systems in second-order form in this paper. Using the modal transformation, a large nonlinear dynamical system is split into a 'master' subsystem, a 'slave' subsystem, and a 'negligible' subsystem. Accordingly, a novel order reduction method (Method I) is developed to construct a low order subsystem by neglecting the 'negligible' subsystem and slaving the 'slave' subsystem into the 'master' subsystem using the extended AIM. As a comparison, Method II accounting for the effects of both 'slave' subsystem and the 'negligible' subsystem is also applied to obtain the reduced order subsystem. Then, a typical 5-degree-of-freedom nonlinear dynamical system is given to compare the accuracy and efficiency of the traditional Galerkin truncation (ignoring the contributions of the slave and negligible subsystems), Method I and Method II. It is shown that Method I gives a considerable increase in accuracy for little computational cost in comparison with the standard Galerkin method, and produces almost the same accuracy as Method II. Finally, a 3-degree-of-freedom nonlinear dynamical system is analyzed by using the analytic method for showing predominance and convenience of Method I to obtain the analytically reduced order system.
