Abstract:This paper offers a thorough review of the development of international studies in China over the past decade in terms of specific research areas and topics.The review covers both macro and micro issues,among which are hot issues like Marxist theories on international relations,theories of realism,studies of the international regime,constructivism school,discussions about international strategies,process of globalization,international economical politics,studies on the United Nations,nationalism,regionalism,feminism and so on.The paper also analyzes micro issues such as politics and culture,ecological politics,ethics in international relations,subdisciplines such as the British school and the Copenhagen school,and studies on sovereignty,security,benefits of the state,methodology and the Chinese characters as well.In fact,all the major issues and research topics discussed in the academic circle are included in this survey.The author not only provides a brief summary of the achievements in these research areas and the background of the researches,but also offers to comment on the existing problems and suggests diretions for future studies,with emphasis placed on the importance and hardships of this discipline in China today.

Abstract:This paper reviews the relevant researches on Chinese rural social policy.The recent research work in this field mainly about the importance of policy development,concrete policy development and dilemmas,urgent problems of the whole policy system,developmental trends and the path of policy reconstruction,etc.However,there still remains four main insufficiencies: representational synchronic study overweighs the comprehensive and historical perspective;plain empiricism in research;deficiency in taking peasants as research objectives;lacks in policy analysis from rural angle of institution and non-institution.

Abstract:Abstract Anthropology in China has a century long history. This article examines its origin, development, practices, and limitations throughout history briefly. It is argued that the history of anthropology in China has always been influenced by the state politics; its ups and downs has been determined by the state policy, and thus lacks academic autonomy. In the era of reform-open, however, Chinese anthropology received its spring. Several fields of new were developed along with international anthropology; the discipline has produced many PhDs. Many universities and colleges have established their own programs or departments. There are some problems, however, are underneath. Nonetheless, all negative conditions would push Chinese anthropologists forward to learn more, strengthening theoretical and critical thinking and searching for new subjects and new problems.

The author mainly discusses the historical review and prospect of the rights of ethnic minority children from three aspects: standard construction, practical implementation and future outlook.

Abstract:In the latest 30 years of studies of Chinese Scholars on Sino-African relations show:the origin of studies on Sino-African relations,main Achievements of the studies,references materials,normal and internal publications and etc.The achievements about the studies on ancient transportation history(including histories of African Chinese and overseas Chinese) between China and Africa are abundant.Chinese Studies on contemporary African studies still face with great challengers for the reasons of rapid development of Sino-African cooperation and strong reflection from west on Sino-African relations.Chinese Scholars should promote and improve the equality of studies on Africa.The author expresses his optimistic future on studies of Sino-African relations with the new development of cooperations between China and Africa.

Abstract:There are some achievements about modern changes of Chinese education at the macro-middle-scale levels.But,what role did modern education play in people’s life? What did modern education bring to the people’s life,especially for the vast majority of the population,the rural masses? Few people have touched these essential questions.In fact,since social anthropology was introduced from the West during the early 1900s,some researchers of different periods have described and analyzed the practical situation of the rural education in modern China in their social anthropological writings or historical writings that invested with anthropology.Some of them can enlighten our research about modern rural education.We can borrow ideas from the view ofotherraised by anthropology to learn the practical situation of the rural education in modern China,and use community studies to find the relationship between the rural education and the rural masses life.

Abstract:To understand recent trends in the development of global ornithological research,compare these with related trends and patterns in China,and provide suggestions for future directions for Chinese ornithological research,we conducted a literature review of ornithology-related publications from 1991 to 2010 using reference database:Web of Science.We reviewed many publications and other information and provide here a summary of the trends in publication quantity and quality,major research areas,major research institutions,and individual contributions of ornithologists in the world and in China.The number of China's ornithological professionals increased about ten times during the period,and avian-related publications in professional journals increased about 25% annually.Chinese ornithologists were recognized for their advancements in paleontology,pheasant and crane conservation,avian evolution,and applications of molecular technologyto systematics.Compared with developed countries such as USA,UK,Germany and Canada,China is still behind in the quantity and quality of ornithological research and publications.In the future,we recommend that Chinese ornithologists pay more attention to studies on avian life history,the impacts of climate change and urbanization on birds,avian conservation and protection,bird migration and connectivity,research methodology improvement,research team training and multidisciplinary collaborations,long-term research and monitoring system establishment,and international cooperation.

Abstract:This article is a review of the status of China international relations studies,asserting that beneath the apparent flourishing of this field is a weakness of this discipline featuring the loss of balance in the context of pluralism,the progressive ideology and fading of sense of skepticism,the absence of the spirit of taking science as the cause,etc.It also discusses the negative impact of traditional thinking,and advocates that a critical discussion of the present situation be initiated on a massive scale so that this new enquiry will see further development.

It is argued that although current overseas studies on urban China have improved Chinese relative research theories and methods, they have their own drawbacks. This paper proposes the further considerations: the context of China studies and right to have a voice in the international research field, the cooperation between civil and abroad scholars and the practicality of the abroad research, which aim to sustain the urban China studies.

Abstract:This article systematically reviews the sociological-anthropological traditions in the studies of Chinese folk religion and proposes three future developmental trends.In particular,this work summarizes four distinctive stages in the Anthropological studies of folk religion and discusses the sociological research on communal folk religion in the studies of C.K.Yang as well as later scholars.Then,this article discusses the three possible trajectories in the sociological research of Chinese folk religion from the perspectives of the expanded definition of folk religion,the integration of folk religion in the framework of mainline sociological theories,and the potential cross-regional and cross-cultural comparative analysis.

Abstract:Biodiversity conservation plays an important role in the sustainable development of human society. China had made significant progress in biodiversity conservation studies and practices. This paper reviews major achievements in China in the past decades, especially those since 2010. In terms of the science behind biodiversity conservation, Chinese scholars have made significant contributions to priority research subjects, including mechanisms for maintaining biological communities and the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. Simultaneously, biodiversity conservation and management systems specific to China have been basically established. The Chinese Government and researchers have undertaken a number of investigations, scientific studies, and monitoring, and have established relevant databases. With efforts taken to protect and restore biodiversity and ecosystems, the concept of biodiversity has gradually become popular in China. This review is an attempt to share with the world the learning from China's progress towards becoming an ecological civilization and highlights that the efforts towards biodiversity conservation need to be organically integrated with sustainable development goals.

Abstract:Based on the reviews of major journals and books relevant to demographic studies in China and in consideration of the process of socio-economic transition since reform and opening-up,this paper highlights the evolution of demographic studies in China for last three decades,summarizes the successful experiences and some limitations,and also makes an approach to the future perspective of Chinese demographic studies.This paper finds out that there are four stages of demographic studies in China since 1978,and future research priorities should be given to population health,migration,and sustainable development,etc.

PurposeThis study provides an overview of the changes and developments of the sociology of education in China as it enters the new era as well as its future outlook.Design/Approach/MethodsThis study combed and analyzed research in the field of the sociology of education in China during the period from 2012 to 2022 on three issues—educational fairness, rural education, and educational reform—to clarify the field's research characteristics and trends.FindingsIn the new era, scholarship on the sociology of education has shifted to focus on achieving high-quality education, modernization, and digitization as new avenues for promoting educational fairness, rural education, and educational reform. As a result, research on the sociology of education in China has employed broader perspectives, adopted a more reflexive approach toward research objects, and embraced more humanistic values.Originality/ValueThis study compiles research on the sociology of education in China in the new era and identifies that the field is moving toward a highly integrative approach. The findings provide useful references for learning and understanding the sociology of education in China.

Abstract:At this stage, the study of Chinese characters is undergoing a transformation of modern applications and technology, and research in this field is both deeply rooted in the traditional Chinese study of script and flourishing with new vitality. This paper analyses the five major components of Chinese character research, namely, the study of archaic characters, the study of the phonology, morphology and meaning of Chinese characters, the study of the application of Chinese characters in the computer field, the study of the cognitive processing of Chinese characters, and the study of Chinese character teaching, and the three methods of Chinese character research, namely, exegetical examination, corpus database and empirical research methods. This paper summarizes the literature on Chinese character research, analyses the trends in Chinese character research, and summarizes the review and outlook of Chinese character research in the past thirty years.
