Abstract:1,2-(1-Acridin-10'-yl-2-aza-2-methylprop-1,3-ylene)fullerene was synthesized firstly and characterized by UV-Vis, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy, which is capable of forming a stable complex with zinc tetraphenylporphyrin via the axial ligation. The steady state fluorescence studies show efficient quenching of the zinc tetraphenylporphyrin emission upon axial coordination of acridine attached to C-60.

Abstract:Five novel complexes with two pyridine substituted benzotriazole ligands, 1-(2-pyridyl)benzotriazole (L1) and 1-(4-pyridyl)benzotriazole (L2), [Zn(L-1)(2)Cl-2](1), [{Zn(L-1)(2)Cl-2} (C)(L1)2](2), [Zn(L-2)(2)Cl-2](3), [{Zn(L2)(H2O)(3)(mu(2)-SO4)}center dot H2O] (4), and [{Cd(L2)(H2O)(3)(mu(2)-SO4)}center dot H2O](5) were synthesized. The details of the structures were characterized by X-ray single crystal analysis, revealing that these complexes were assembled together via supramolecular interaction, such as, hydrogen bonding and pi-pi interactions. The influence of organic ligands, anions and reaction conditions in the formation of the complexes were investigated. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Anchoring groups are extremely important in controlling the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). The design and characterization of sensitizers with new anchoring groups, in particular non-carboxylic acid groups, has become a recent focus of DSC research. Herein, new donoracceptor zincporphyrin dyes with a pyridine ring as an anchoring group have been designed and synthesized for applications in DSCs. Photophysical and electrochemical investigations demonstrated that the pyridine ring worked effectively as an anchoring group for the porphyrin sensitizers. DSCs that were based on these new porphyrins showed an overall power-conversion efficiency of about 4.0% under full sunlight (AM1.5G, 100mWcm2).

Abstract:Under the hydrothermal conditions, a novel visible-light-driven coordination polymer photocatalyst [Zn(FDPTH)(bpy)] 1 (FDPTH = 4,4′-hexafluoroisoprorylidene-diphthalhydrazidate, bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) was luckily obtained for the first time. Note that FDPTH derived from the hydrothermal in situ acylation reactions between 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6-FDCA) and N 2 H 4 ⋅H 2 O. X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis revealed that the FDPTH ligands exhibit a μ 3 -bridging mode in compound 1 , which link Zn(II) centers into a 1D chained structure with auxiliary ligand. The crystal packing of the synthesized compound was further analyzed using Hirshfeld surface analysis (HSA) to assess the interactions between the crystal packings. The photocatalysis analysis indicates that compound 1 is a potential visible-light-driven photocatalyst. The degradation follows a pseudo-first-order kinetic character and the efficiency has been well preserved after five continuous experimental runs. Trapping radical experiment turned out that the ·OH are active species in the catalytic reaction. The band position of compound 1 was elucidated via UV–vis absorbance spectra and Mott-Schottky plot. Also, the photocatalytic degradation mechanism has been proposed.

Abstract:UV–Vis spectra and ESI–MS studies indicated that an axial coordination supramolecule of cis-2′,5′-dipyridinylpyrrolidino[3′,4′:1,2][60]fullerene (Compound 1) with zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP) was formed. The association constant was determined by Stern–Volmer method (0.94×104) and Benesi–Hildebrand equation (1.2×104). The fluorescence emission of ZnTPP in cyclohexane is quenched by compound 1, which indicates that there has an energy transfer from ZnTPP to C60 moiety in the title coordination supramolecule.

Abstract:Four new Zn(II) and Cu(II) coordinated polymers ([ZnL2N3]ClO4 (1), [Cu2L2(CH3CN)]Cl4 (2) [CuL](NO3)2 (3), [Cu(H2O)L](SO4) (4) L=2-((4-phenyl-2H-1,2,3-triazol-2-yl)methyl) pyridine (ptmp)) have been reported. All the compounds have been characterized by IR spectrum, elemental analyses and X-ray crystallography diffraction. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses show that one-dimensional polymers are formed in these four complexes. Chain-like structures are formed in complex 1, 2 and 3, which are connected by azide, chloride and nitrate anions, respectively. In complex 4, one-dimensional left-handed polymer is formed by a μ2-SO4 bridge. The fluorescent and electrochemical properties of these four complexes were investigated. It was found that these three Cu(II) complexes displayed a quenching of fluorescence, while Zn(II) complex exhibited a clear enhanced fluorescence.

Abstract:Two novel sensitizers with pyridine-N-oxide zinc porphyrin and its zinc porphyrin as the anchor group and electron acceptor have been synthesized. The structures have been characterized by UV, elemental analyses and H-1 NMR. UV and fluorescence spectra show that they have good light absorbing properties in the range of visible light and suggest that they have potential applications in dye-sensitized solar cells.

Abstract:A novel and efficient Cu(I)/Ag(I)-mediated synergistic annulation reaction of [60]fullerene with diary-lethanones, benzoylacetonitriles, and beta-dicarbonyl compounds has been developed for the direct construction of diverse disubstituted dihydrofuran-fused [60]fullerene derivatives. This transformation exhibits a remarkably broad substrate scope and functional group tolerance and provides a useful method to a scarce class of fullerene derivatives.

Abstract:Flexible carboxylic ligands have attracted considerable interest due to their excellent stretchable capacity and coordinative ability. In this paper, one new 2D zinc coordination polymer {[Zn(tcpob)2/3(H2O)2/3]·(H2O)2/3}n with trinuclear zinc cluster units was prepared under hydrothermal conditions based on 1,3,5-tri(4-carboxyphenoxy)benzene ligand. In addition, the solid-state photoluminescent spectra were measured at room temperature.

Abstract:Pyridyl‐pyrrole ligands usually mimic the polypyridine ligand, and their metal complexes are interesting due to their rich coordination chemistry and their use in molecular devices, biological therapeutics, and catalytic transformations. Cs‐symmetric HL3 ligand Br‐substituted on one of the pyridyl rings was designed and synthesized by Paal–Knorr pyrrole condensation. Ligand HL4 was synthesized by Suzuki‐coupling reaction between HL3 and 2‐thiopheneboronic acid in the presence of K2CO3 and Pd(PPh3)4 in degassed THF/H2O solution. Zinc complexes 1–5 with HL1 to HL5 were prepared by treatment of the corresponding pyridyl‐pyrrole ligands with diethylzinc in toluene at 0 °C in high yield. Ligand HL3 and all zinc complexes are characterized by X‐ray diffraction analysis. The structure of free HL3 is planar. The geometries at Zn in 1, 2, and 5 are compressed octahedra, while in 3 and 4 they are perhaps best described as being between cis‐divacant octahedral and distorted tetrahedral. In these zinc complexes, shorter Zn–Npyrrole [1.878(5)‐1.950(4) Å] and longer Zn–Npyridine [2.108(5)‐2.509(3) Å], Zn‐Npendant pyridine [2.802(2)‐3.039(3) Å] bond lengths are observed. Complexes 2 and 3 were used as catalysts to promote the coupling reaction of CO2 and various epoxides under solvent‐free conditions, and the catalytic mechanism was investigated by 1H NMR spectroscopy.
'Two-Point'-bound Supramolecular Complexes from Semi-Rigidified Dipyridine Receptors and Zinc Porphyrins

Abstract:Two linear compounds 1 and 2 have been designed and synthesized as new receptors for zinc porphyrins. Both compounds consist of two folded aromatic amide moieties, which are connected with an acetylene linker in 1 or directly in 2. The rigid conformations of their folded moieties are stabilized by intramolecular tri-centered hydrogen bonding, while the whole molecule adopts a ‘S’- or ‘C’-styled conformation depending on the relative orientation of the two rigid moieties. Two pyridine units are introduced at the ends of 1 and 2 for the complexation of zinc porphyrin guests. Although the 1H NMR investigation indicated that both compounds can bind two zinc porphyrin guests at high concentrations (≥5mM) in chloroform, the UV–vis studies revealed that, at low concentration of 1 and 2 (4μM), both compounds complex one zinc porphyrin guest to form structurally unique ‘two-point’-bound 1:1 complexes. The association constants of the 1:1 complexes have been determined with the UV–vis titration experiments.

Abstract:Four new coordination complexes [Cd(DPBA-3)2(H2O)2](ClO4)2·2H2O (1), [Cd(DPBA-3)(DMF)(NO3)2]·DMF (2), [Cd3(DPBA-3)2(SCN)6]·2DMF·4H2O (3) and [Zn(DPBA-3)(SCN)2] (4) [DPBA-3=N,N′-di(pyridin-3-yl)pyridine-3,5-dicarboxamide] have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Complexes 1, 3 and 4 exhibit three different types of one-dimensional (1D) chain structures constructed by the metal ions and DPBA-3 ligands, and the Cd(II)-DPBA-3 1D chains in 3 are further linked by bridging SCN− ligands to afford a three-dimensional (3D) framework. Complex 2 possesses a (6,3) two-dimensional (2D) layer structure. In 1–4, the hydrogen bonds involving the amide groups play important role to stabilize the resultant frameworks. The photoluminescence properties of the DPBA-3 and the complexes were studied in the solid state at room temperature.

Abstract:A Zn(II) coordination polymer {[Zn3(paz)(btc)2(H2O)8]·4H2O}n (noted as ZnPB), where paz = pyrazine, H3btc = trimesic acid, was synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction analyses. ZnPB shows a (3,3)-connected 2D network with a point symbol of (63)2. Hydrogen bonds and π···π interactions connect adjacent 2D network to form a 3D packing structure. This compound exhibits excellent catalytic activity in the reaction of condensation and cyclization of sulfonyl hydrazides with 1,3-diketones for the synthesis of pyrazoles. This solvent-free and halogen-free catalytic system represents an effective economic and environmentally friendly method for the construction of pyrazoles.

Abstract:Porphyrins and metalloporphyrins (or porphyrin coordination complexes) have been wildly investigated as photocatalysts in recent years. Herein we synthesized two new A3B porphyrins, a new asymmetric A3B zinc-porphyrin ligand with peripheral chelate group (pyridine dicarboxylate), and a ruthenium(II) complex of the porphyrin ligand. Their photo-physical properties were characterized and investigated by UV-Vis and fluorescent emission. The modeling of the molecular structures was optimized by DFT theoretical calculation. All porphyrin compounds exhibited strong absorbance at the Soret bands and Q bands. The free base of porphyrin possessed a higher quantum yield and a longer life time than the other two zinc-porphyrins and ruthenium-porphyrin in terms of fluorescence. Furthermore, the ruthenium-porphyrin complex can be used as a promising photocatalyst under visible light for two kinds of organic reactions: ketone-related oxidative aminothiocyanation (above 90% yield) and indole-related oxidative thiocyanation (around 80% yield) with a remarkable low amount (0.1 mmol %).

Abstract:Three new coordination polymers [Zn(tib)(BPDS)] (1), [Zn(tib) (BPDS) (H2O)]center dot 6H(2)O (2) and [Zn-2(tib) (TPDC-4CH(3))(2)]center dot DMF center dot 10H(2)O (3) (DMF = N, N-dimethylformamide), and a previously reported one [Cd(tib)(2)]center dot 2NO(3)center dot 4DMF (4) were synthesized by hydro/solvothermal reactions of corresponding metal salt with mixed organic ligands of 1, 3, 5-tris(1-imidazolyl)benzene (tib) and 4, 4'-biphenyldisulfonic acid (H2BPDS)/2', 3', 5', 6'-tetramethylterphenyl-4, 4 ''-dicarboxylic acid (H2TPDC-4CH(3)). The complexes were characterized by elemental, thermogravimetric analyses, IR, single crystal and powder X-ray diffractions. 1 and 2 are 2D networks with {4.8(2)} and {6(3)} topologies, which are further assembled into 3D architectures through hydrogen bonding interactions. In 3, both tib and TPDC-4CH(3)(2-) act as bidentate bridging ligands and link Zn(II) centers to form a 3-fold interpenetrating 3D framework, while 4 is a (3, 6)-connected binodal 3D net with the Schlafli symbol of {4.6(2)}(2){4(2).6(10).8(3)}.
