Abstract:Mesoporous Fe-MCM-41 materials were synthesized by using ionic liquid 1-cethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C(16)mim]Br-+(-)) as template at room temperature and characterized by X-ray diffraction, N-2 adsorption-desorption, FT-IR, EPR, UV-Vis. Results show that these mesoporous materials possess high surface area. The pore size distributions of Fe-MCM-41 show that there are two types mesoporous. Part of iron atom still retain in the framework after removal of the template by calcination except those transferring to the wall surface. Fe species on wall surface are, of high dispersion. This indicates that stable framework-iron containing mesoporous molecular sieves Fe-MCM-41 can be successfully synthesized.
Comprehensive characterization of iron oxide containing mesoporous molecular sieve MCM-41

Abstract:We have synthesized iron oxide-containing mesoporous silica MCM-41 by a direct route. This material has a significant microporousity, which might be related with the loading of iron oxide in the MCM-41 mesopores, though no crystalline phases of iron oxide were detected by XRD. Intensity deviations and extra bright intensity within the pores, as well as local superstructural phases within a large area, were observed in the TEM images. The position and area of such a crystalline phase could change during the successive electron beam exposure and resulted in a formation of a cycle. These phenomena imply the possible existence of small Fe2O3 nanocrystals loaded in the mesoporous silica materials with regular and oriented arrangement. EELS spectrum of the sample proves the existence of iron, but the chemical environment of iron in the MCM-41 silica should be different from that of bulk amorphous porous iron oxide. The small iron oxide crystals in the MCM-41 sample might be linked with silica wall through oxygen. Another possibility is that iron oxide reacts with silica during synthesis, causing the partial crystallization of the MCM-41 framework. In other words, microcrystals of iron oxide may exist in the silica matrix.

Abstract:The conditions for hydrothermal systhesis of mesoporous molecular sieve MCM -41 have been studied in gel NaX(F-, Cl-, Br-)- Na2O - Al2O3- SiO2- CTAB - H2O. At a crystalline temperature of 398K, crystalline time of 8��16 days and NaX/SiO2 of 0.01�� 0.05 molecular sieve MCM -41 can be prepared. Addtion of NaF can accelate relative crystalline rate but NaBr results in prohibitive effect to the formation of molecular sieve MCM - 41. Characterizations using XRD, SEM, TG-DTA and N2 adsorption indicated that the synthesized samples possess the properties of mesoporous molecular sieve.

Abstract:Mesoporous molecular sieve MCM-41 with incorporated structural aluminum (Al-MCM-41) was prepared by hydrolysis of a solution of tetraethoxysilane and aluminum isopropoxide in the presence of ammonia as a catalyst. This method provides Al-MCM-41 of different Si/Al ratios from 13 to 297 corresponding to 0.3–7mol% Al within an hour. X-ray diffraction and nitrogen adsorption measurements showed that the Al-MCM-41 prepared by this method had a highly ordered structure of pore arrays. Most Al atoms in these samples were incorporated tetrahedrally in the MCM-41 structure, which gave rise to cationic sites in the framework.

Abstract:Mesoporous Al-MCM-41 materials were synthesized using room temperature ionic liquid 1-cethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C16mim]Br) as a single template and characterized by X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption–desorption, ICP-AES, 27Al MAS NMR and TEM technique. These mesoporous materials exhibit hexagonal p6m pore architectures, and possess high surface area and narrow pore distribution. All aluminum in as-synthesized samples exists in tetrahedral coordination. Upon calcination nearly all aluminum still remains the tetrahedral coordination even when the Si/Al ratio is as low as 15. This indicates that the tetrahedral aluminum of Al-MCM-41 is stable.

Abstract:Zr-MCM-41 mesoporous materials were prepared via a direct-synthesis method using Zr(NO_3)_4·3H_2O as a precursor. The samples were characterized with XRD (X-ray Diffraction), TG-DTA (Thermogravimetry-Differential Thermal Analysis) and N_2 adsorption. The effects of Zr/Si molar ratio on the Zr-MCM-41 were then investigated. The results show that the peak of 100 near 2θ=2° in XRD patterns becomes weaker with the increase of Zr/Si molar ratio. To obtain the mesoporous Zr-MCM-41, the maximum of Zr/Si molar ratio is 0.25. The BET area of the Zr-MCM-41samples decreases with the increase of Zr/Si ratio, but the pore size keeps as 2.75?nm～2.97?nm.

Abstract:In extremely dense system controlling H 2O/ Si �� 5 from amorphous gel Na 2O- SiO 2- CTAB (cetyltrimethylammonium bromite)-H 2O, the synthesis conditions of mesoporous molecular sieve Si-MCM-41 have been studied. Molecular sieve Si-MCM-41 have been prepared in H 2O/Si=1. 0-5. 0, CTAB/Si= 0. 0125-0. 125, Na/Si = 0. 05 - 0. 15. The characteristic of the method is clearly decreasing consumption amount of CTAB. As-synthesized samples have been characterized by XRD, SEM, TG-DTA and N 2 adsorption isothermals. These demonstrated that products possess typical properties of molecular sieve MCM-41.

Abstract:Silicate and aluminosilicate MCM-41 molecular sieves have been synthesized in the presence of various new mineralization agents, such as methylamine, dimethylamine, ethylamine and diethylamine. The products were characterized with a series of techniques. XRD, TEM and nitrogen adsorption-desorption measurements suggest that the products possess highly ordered structures. 29Si NMR results show that the resultant mesophase frameworks are condensed with a higher degree than those of products prepared with NaOH as the mineralization agent. These alkali-metal-free synthesis media offer a simple and effective method for the direct preparation of high quality H-type aluminosilicate MCM-41, as shown by XRD, 27Al NMR and NH3 TPD results. Both the pure silica and the aluminum-containing samples exhibit excellent thermal (in air up to 1373K) and hydrothermal stability (in hot water of 353K, 48h for the former and 72h for the later). The formation of the high quality MCM-41 material is discussed in terms of a buffer effect of the synthesis media, which is due to the presence of the new mineralization agents. The evidence was obtained by monitoring the pH values of the synthesis.

Abstract:Fe-containing, La-containing, siliceous and aluminum silicate MCM-41 mesoporous materials were synthesized using water glass as silica source. The states of Fe(III) and La(III) species were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), framework infrared (FTIR), electron spin resonance (ESR) and Mössbauer spectroscopic techniques. It was shown that Fe(III) or La(III) species was incorporated into framework. Because the Fe–O or La–O bond is longer than Si–O bond, Fe(III) or La(III) species was limited to insert into framework and transformed from tetrahedrally coordinated state to octahedrally coordinated state upon calcination to remove template.

Abstract:The synthesis of AlMCM-41 molecular sieves with Si/Al ratios 14–32 is reported. Intermittent pH adjustments during synthesis may improve the long-range order of the mesopores. N2 adsorption and27Al MAS NMR experiments reveal that all the AlMCM-41 samples contain a small amount of aluminum-rich extra-framework species both inside and outside the mesoporous channels after calcination. The proton exchanged AlMCM-41 catalysts are weak-medium acidic, and are catalytically active for isopropanol dehydration at moderate temperature and for cumene cracking at high temperature.

Abstract:A series of Cu-containing MCM41 with high contents of copper was synthesized at room temperature by using Na2SiO3 as Si sources and Cu(NH3)(4)(NO3)(2) as Cu sources and cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB) as the template. The influence of reaction conditions such as time, temperature, pH value and copper contents upon the structure of the materials was systematically studied. The mesoporous material containing up to 26% (mass fraction) copper was successfully synthesized under the best reaction conditions (t = 20 degreesC; pH = 9-10; t = 72 h). The structure of the materials was characterized by XRD, HRTEM, BET, TG-DTA, FTIR, ICP and XPS. The obtained material has a high surface area of 525 m(2)/g with a narrow pore distribution at 3.11 nm.

Abstract:The conditions for hydrothermal synthesis of mesoporous molecular sieve MCM-41 have been studied in gel M2O (M=Li, Na, K)-Al2O3-SiO2-CTMAB-H2O system. Experiments indicated that KOH showed better performance to replace NaOH as an inorganic alkali to synthesize molecular sieve MCM-41. As synthesized samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, TG and N2 adsorption isothermals.

Abstract:This study reported a facile synthetic method for MCM-41 mesoporous material at room temperature using iron ore tailing and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a silicon source and a structure-directing agent, respectively. The obtained product was systematically characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and nitrogen absorption–desorption measurement. It was confirmed that the as-synthesized material exhibited a well-ordered mesostructure with high surface area of ca. 634m2/g, large pore volume of 0.61cm3/g, and average pore diameter of 3.8nm. The removal efficiency towards model pollutant methylene blue (MB) was performed through produced MCM-41 and 111mg/g of MB could be eliminated under an optimal condition. Therefore, the material could be potentially used as a low-cost and efficient adsorbent candidate to treat organic contaminates in wastewater or other fields.

Abstract:MCM-41 mesoporous molecular sieve was synthesized by microwave radiation method. The crystallization, crystalline morphology and stability of MCM-41 were investigated by means of XRD, SEM, IR, NMR and adsorption technique. The results showed that the induction period is very short, the crystallization rate is very high, and there is no crystalline conversion during the crystallization process. It was also found that MCM-41 synthesized in microwave condition had lower adsorption capacity but better ability for resisting heat, hydrothermal, acid and base treatment.
Spectroscopic Investigation of Fe(III) in FeMCM-41

Abstract:A series of Fe(III) containing mesoporous MCM-41 molecular sieves (FeMCM-41)have been synthesized hydrothermally. The samples were characterized systematically by various spectroscopic and analytical techniques in order to study the location, coordination, stability and oxidation state of iron within the matix. Here we report on the spectroscopic information, which is particularly being inferred from EPR, 29Si MAS NMR, Mossbauer and Magnetic susceptibility studies. Analysis of EPR signal indicated that Fe(III) is present in two different tetrahedral sites along with octahedral coordination. During template removal, Fe(III) is partly dislodged from the framework and migrates to non-framework and/or extra-framework sites, irrespective of calcination temperature. 29Si MAS NMR studies revealed that paramagnetic Fe(III) is present in the direct vicinity of [SiO4] tetrahedral and therefore results in broadening of spectral lines. Absences of side spinning bands are attributed to the uniform dispersion of FexOy within the matrix. The observed isomer shift value of <0.3mm/sec in the Mossbauer spectrum supported the tetrahedral coordination of Fe(III). Further, the appearance of sexset pattern is attributed to the superparamagnetic FexOy nanoparticles. The coexistence of paramagnetic and superparamagnetic Fe(III) in FeMCM-41 is also inferred from magnetic susceptibility studies.

Abstract:A range of mesoporous gallosilicate molecular sieves with the MCM-41 structure have been synthesized using gallium nitrate as the source of gallium and characterized in detail by elemental analysis, XRD, 71Ga and 29Si MAS NMR, N2 adsorption measurements, and TEM. The quality of the products is very sensitive to the pH of the gel mixture. Atomic absorption and XRD show that Ga and Si in the gel are incorporated into the MCM-41 structure in nearly equal proportions. 71Ga and 29Si NMR demonstrate that in all as-made samples gallium is 4-coordinate and forms a part of the MCM-41 structure. Although upon calcination gallium is partially expelled from the structure of samples with Si/Ga ≤ 20, Ga in samples with Si/Ga ≥ 30 is unaffected. N2 adsorption measurements and TEM demonstrate the high mesoporosity of gallosilicate MCM-41-30. The pore size distribution indicates that the structure of sample MCM-41-20 partially collapses upon calcination and macropores are formed.
Solid-State Nmr Studies Of The Borosilicate Mesoporous Molecular Sieve Mcm-41

Abstract:A series of boron-substituted mesoporous MCM-41 sieves has been synthesized with a wide ranging content of boron (Si/B ratio from 40 to 5) and has been studied by XRD, B-11 and Si-29 solid-state NMR. Boron enters the silicate framework and there are two different 4-coordinate boron sites in the as-prepared products. The interplanar d(100) spacing varies from 36 to 40 Angstrom depending on the Si/B ratio. There is no significant contraction of the unit cell upon calcination, but some 4-coordinate boron is converted into the less stable 3-coordination. The 3-coordinate boron can be fully reconverted to 4-coordination by equilibrating the sample with the water vapour over a saturated aqueous solution of NH4Cl at room temperature. When the sample is immersed in water for 3 days at 50 degrees C, some 3-coordinate boron is removed from the framework. The 4-coordinate B is removed upon further treatment of the hydrated calcined sample with water vapour at 150 degrees C.

Abstract:Iron-incorporated mesoporous silica materials (MFS-9) have been successfully prepared in strong acidic media by a two-step synthesis procedure, which has an hexagonal structure with uniform mesopores and exhibits superior hydrothermal stability and high catalytic activities for the hydroxylation of phenol and also of bulky trimethylphenol. X-ray diffraction data show that mesoporous ferrisilicate (MFS-9) can retain its mesoporous structure in boiling water up to 100 h. Characterization of MFS-9 by a variety of spectroscopic techniques, including electron spin resonance, UV–vis and UV–Raman spectroscopies, suggests that Fe species in the framework of MFS-9 are mainly tetrahedrally coordinated even after calcination at 823 K.
