Abstract:An optical splitting system is introduced that can be employed for water vapor ultraviolet Raman lidar. It contains a combination of four prisms which are made of fused silica, and can be used to split multi-wavelength backscattering singals of lidar. For 266 nm excitation wavelength, lidar Raman backscattering wavelengths intervals of O2,N2,and H2O are small, and common filters are difficult to split them enough. This optical splitting system can split these Raman backscattering signals by optimizing the system parameters, especially, the separation angle between every two near prisms and the angle of incidence. Then, the signals can be received by photelectric detections separately to calculate the profiles of ozone and water-vapor in the atmosphere. The appropriate parameters of this optical splitting system can be gotten by computer computation, the Raman scattering signals can be split when the angle of incidence is about 36° and the separation angle between every two near prisms is about 106°.At last, the optical splitting system is calibrated and verified by experiments,in which laser is used for exciting the high pressure gases contained in Raman cells to produce stimulated Raman scattering for simulating backscattering wavelengths. The experiments demonstrate that this optical splitting system is feasible and reliable for water vapor ultraviolet Raman lidar.
