NF-κBp65/p50 Protein Expression in Esophageal Cancer and Precancerous Lesions at High Incidence Area in Henan

Abstract:Purpose To evaluate the significance of NF-κB p65/p50 expression in esophageal cancer and precancerous lesions. Methods Immunohistochemistry (ABC) method was undertaken to determine the expression of NF-κB p65 and p50 proteins in esophageal carcinogenesis. Results The NF-κB p65 and p50 expression were not observed in normal esophageal epithelium. However, the different severity of NF-κB p65/p50 expression was observed in based cell hyperplasia (BCH, 38%/32%), dysplasia (54%/46%), carcinoma in situ (53%/47%) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC, 69%/62%). The positive rates for NF-κB p65 and p50 proteins increased with the lesion progression. Moreover, there were significant relationships among BCH, and dysplasia and SCC(P0.05). The heterogeneity of NF-κB p65 and p50 expression in esophageal squamous carcinoma was observed. Conclusions NF-κB p65 and p50 proteins are frequent molecular events in esophageal precancerous and cancerous lesions and may play an important role in esophageal carcinogenesis.
