Based on the characteristics of wave propagation in layered media, we proposed a new detection method called Impact Imaging Method. This method uses a receiver and a seismic data recorder to acquire common offset seismic data generated by a mechanical impact on the media surface. In data processing, the average amplitude was calculated and defined as impact response. The impact response will then be normalized by impact strength recorded as acceleration, so any change in the normalized impact response can be considered as aroused from the local anomaly. This method was applied for evaluation of the fullness of grouting under a thick concrete slab. The result shows that this method is simple, fast, inexpensive and easy to implement.
