Abstract:A high-performance low-power Sigma triangle analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for digital audio applications is described. It consists of a 2-1 cascaded Sigma triangle modulator and a decimation filter. Various design optimizations are implemented in the system design, circuit implementation and layout design, including a high-overload-level coefficient-optimized modulator architecture, a power-efficient class A/AB operational transconductance amplifier, as well as a multi-stage decimation filter conserving area and power consumption. The ADC is implemented in the SMIC 0.18-mu m CMOS mixed-signal process. The experimental chip achieves a peak signal-to-noise-plus-distortion ratio of 90 dB and a dynamic range of 94 dB over 22.05-kHz audio band and occupies 2.1 mm(,)(2) which dissipates only 2.1 mA quiescent current in the analog circuits.

Abstract:A third-order low-power ΣΔ modulator for a high-end 18bit audio-band analog-to-digital converter is developed.The modulator is based on a 2-1 cascaded architecture with optimized coefficients to extend the dynamic range and reduce the spectrum tones.The gate-source bootstrapping technique is employed to enhance the sampling switch linearity.A power-efficient class A/AB operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) is proposed,which achieves a high slew rate of 100V/μs with only 0.8mA current consumption.The OTA designed for the second and third integrators is a scaled version of the first OTA,which allows for further power reduction.The modulator is implemented in SMIC mixed-signal 0.18μm CMOS technology,and the area is 1.1mm × 1.0mm.Experimental results indicate a peak signal-to-noise-and-distortion ratio (SNDR) of 91dB and a dynamic range of 94dB over a 22.05kHz bandwidth.The chip operates under a 3.3V power supply with a power dissipation of 6.8mW,which is suitable for high-performance,low-power audio ADC applications.

Abstract:A multi-bit quantized high performance sigma-delta (Sigma-Delta) audio DAC is presented. Compared to its single-bit counterpart, the multi-bit quantization offers many advantages, such as simpler Sigma-Delta modulator circuit, lower clock frequency and smaller spurious tones. With the data weighted average (DWA) mismatch shaping algorithm, element mismatch errors induced by multi-bit quantization can be pushed out of the signal band, hence the noise floor inside the signal band is greatly lowered. To cope with the crosstalk between digital and analog circuits, every analog component is surrounded by a guard ring, which is an innovative attempt. The 18-bit DAC with the above techniques, which is implemented in a 0.18 mu m mixed-signal CMOS process, occupies a core area of 1.86 mm(2). The measured dynamic range (DR) and peak SNDR are 96 dB and 88 dB, respectively.

Abstract:This paper introduces the design of a voice communication system based on the AMBE-2000TM vocoder chip.The analog head-end input and output interface circuit of the AD73311 is given.Experiment shows that the voice system can get a superior voice quality in low data rate speech.Some notable issues in circuit design are also pointed out.

Abstract:A low-power high-linearity sigma-delta modulator for digital audio analog-to-digital converter was presented,which used an improved cascaded sigma-delta noise-shaper with reduced sensitivity to the operational amplifier nonlinearity.High-linearity sampling was achieved with a novel bootstrapped switch.A low-power operational amplifier was designed with a class AB output stage,which was at least 2-times more power efficient than a regular folded-cascode amplifier.The modulator was implemented in a SMIC standard 0.18 μm CMOS process.Simulation showed that the signal to noise-plus-distortion ratio(SNDR) was 111.8 dB and the dynamic range(DR) was 115 dB under all temperature and process corner conditions.The power consumption of the proposed modulator was 2.6 mW power from a 3 V supply,suitable for the low power audio Codec applications.

Abstract:This paper presents a low-power high linearity ΣΔ analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for audio applications. By adopting low noise large output swing operational amplifiers in a 2–1 cascaded modulator, not only can the noise floor be reduced, but the input signal range can also be enlarged. A low-power, area-efficient digital decimation filter was also designed to decrease the area and the power cost. The ADC was fabricated in the SMIC 65 nm single-poly-eight-metal (1P8M) mixed-signal complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) process with a die area of 0.36 mm 2 . Measurement results showed that a 90 dB peak signal to noise plus distortion ratio (SNDR) and a 93 dB dynamic range (DR) were achieved over the 22.05 kHz audio band. The power dissipation was 2.2 mW from 1.2 V power supply, which is suitable for audio codec applications.

Abstract:This paper introduces a low-noise low-cost Sigma Delta modulator for digital audio analog-to-digital conversion. By adopting a low-noise large-output swing operation amplifier, not only is the flicker noise greatly inhibited, but also the power consumption is reduced. Also the area cost is relatively small. The modulator was implemented in a SMIC standard 65-nm CMOS process. Abstract:We designed an audio ΣΔ ADC which has low power consumption and high linearity.The proposed ΣΔ ADC contains a 2-1 cascaded 1-bit ΣΔ modulator and a low-power,area-efficient digital decimation filter which is designed using RAM and ROM.This chip has been implemented in SMIC 65nm mixed-signal 1P8M CMOS standard silicon process,and the die area is 0.581mm 2.Experiment results shown that 90dB signal to noise plus distortion ratio(SNDR) and 93dB dynamic range(DR) are achieved within 22.05kHz audio band,at 5M Hz sample rate.The ADC’s power dissipation is 2.2mW under 1.2V supply voltage,which means that this chip obtains high-performance and low-power at the same time.

Abstract:This paper presents a design for a low-power, high-resolution audio ΣΔ analog-to-digital converter (ADC) based on a novel gain-boost class-C inverter. The gain-boost class-C inverter behaves as a sub-threshold amplifier, thereby minimizing power dissipation. The proposed ADC chip is fabricated in a SMIC 65-nm CMOS process with a die area of 0.63 mm2. With 1.2 V of supply voltage, the ADC chip achieves a peak signal-to-noise-plus-distortion-ratio (SNDR) of 92 dB and a dynamic range (DR) of 97 dB over the 20 kHz audio band, consuming only 1.13 mW. These results make the ADC particularly suitable for portable electronics applications.

Abstract:In order to decrease cost and improve performance of Digial Telephone Switching, a four channel CODEC device based on DSP was designed. In this device, oversampled analog to digital converting technique and digital signal processing technique were used. Due to these techniques, it is possible to take the advantages of digital VLSI technique, implement multi channel speech CODEC in a single chip, and make the cost of switching low. Meanwhile, programmable digital filters were used, the performance of the system can be improved just by adjusting the coefficients of the filters by software according to different line characteristics. This device was fabricated in a 0.5μm CMOS process with double poly and 3 layers metal, and integrated on a die size of 25mm 2. Measurements show that all the necessary CCITT's recommendations are fullfilled.

Abstract:A 0.9 V 58 mu W 92 dB SNDR audio Delta Sigma modulator is presented. Through combining the featured architecture with elaborately designed circuits, ultra-low-power operation is achieved. A power-efficient switched opamp (SO) with a new chopper stabilisation circuit for SO application is exploited to reduce power and minimise flicker noise. A novel data-weighted-averaging (DWA) technique is applied to suppress the harmonic distortion effectively.

Abstract:Low bit rate speech coding is one of the most important and fundamental parts of modern digital communication network and multimedia techniques. This paper presents a high quality variable-rate speech coding at 2.4 kbit/s, 1.2 kbit/s and 800 bit/s based on the algorithm of multi-band excitation (MBE). The techniques of smoothing pitch period by using dynamic programming algorithm, LPC all-pole model to approximate the MBE spectral shape, formant enhancement, split vector quantizer, multi-stage vector quantizer, multilayer perception of neural networks, etc. are adopted to improve this vocoder. It is implemented in realtime by using a single ADSP2181 fixed point digital signal processor. The speech quality of the real-time system is satisfactory.

Abstract:A 16-bit 2 MS/s Δ-Σ modulator(SMD) for audio application was presented according to G.712 standard.Coefficients of the SDM was optimized with Matlab.Fully-differential switched-capacitor common-mode-feedback OTA and dynamic comparator were used to reduce power.Simulation results showed that,at 2 MHz sampling rate,the modulator achieved an SNR of 101 dB,or 16 effective numbers of bits,for 4 kHz input signals.The modulator was fabricated in 0.18 μm CMOS process,and the core circuit occupied an area of 340 μm×160 μm.Operating at 2 MHz sampling rate from 1.8 V supply power,the circuit consumes 165.6 μW of power.

Abstract:A sigma-delta modulator(SDM) for audio applications is proposed.For audio signal of 24KHz,compare various modulator structures,the design choose signal-loop second order SC architecture.The sigma-delta modulator operates with a supply voltage of 1.8V,a fully differential switched-capacitor circuit is adopted.The power consumption is 6.5mW.The simulation results demonstrate that,with an oversampling rate of 256 and a sampling frequency of 12.288MHz,the modulator achieves a 98dB signal-to-noise-ratio(SNR).The modulator is implemented in a UMC 0.18μm mixed-signal technology with metal-insulator-metal capacitor,the active area is 0.209mm2.The design can be used in low cost and high performance chip.

Abstract:A monolithic 16-bit Δ-Σ D/A converter was presented,which was comprised of an interpolator,a Δ-Σ modulator and a power-efficient switching(Class D amplifier) output stage.Fabricated in a 0.18 μm standard CMOS process,this D/A converter can implement 16-bit resolution with a dynamic range of 97 dB and signal band of 8 kHz.An efficiency of 90% is achieved for an 8 Ω speaker.The maximum output power is 100 mW from a single 1.8 V power supply,and the third harmonics is less than-100 dB.This chip can be used in audio applications,such as hearing aid or mp3 players,where the power budget is limited.

Abstract:An 18-bit 48 kHz Δ-Σ D/A converter for digital audio application is designed.For the interpolator,multiplier-free and time division multiplex mode are used to reduce the hardware overhead.The Δ-Σ modulator employs a 5~(th)-order 1-bit quantization loop,and a 100 dB in-band SNR was achieved on FPGA platform.The post switched capacitor(SC) filter was implemented in CSMC's 0.6 μm CMOS process.The core chip occupies an area of 1.73 mm×1.11 mm,and it consumes less than 22 mW of power from a single 5 V supply voltage.

Abstract:This paper presents a variable-rate speech coding at 800 bps, 1.2 kbps and 2.4 kbps based on the algorithm of multi-band excitation (MBE). It takes the advantages of MBE algorithm in pitch estimation, UV decision and the estimation of spectral amplitude vector. The main difficulty of at the low bit rate of the MBE algorithm lies in an efficient quantization of the spectral amplitude vector. The technique of linear prediction (LP) is used, and the spectral amplitude vectors are approached by an all-pole model with formants to be enhanced. The techniques of vector quantization (VQ) is adopted to quantize the LP parameters. The split-VQ (SPVQ), and multi-stage VQ (MSVQ) are employed to reduce the storage capacity and computing complexity, and max-min method is used to accelerate the searching of the VQ codebook. The 800 bps, 1.2 kbps and 2.4 kbps vocoder has been implemented in real-time using a single fixed point DSP ADSP2181 chip. The synthesized speech of this vocoder is clear and intelligible even in the presence of background noise at 80 dB. The speech quality of this vocoder has reached the current international level
