Abstract:The mechanical properties of 1.92%Ni, 4.92%Ni medium carbon Cr-Ni-Mo steels after austenitizing different temperatures and tempering at low temperature were compared. The effects of austenitizing temperature and retained austenite(Ar) on mechanical properties were summarized. The results show that the steels exhibit tensile strength>2200MPa, elongation >10% and Charpy V-notch impact toughness at -40℃>10J after 900℃austenitizing and 200℃tempering. Tensile strength, elongation and reduction of area increase slightly with austenitizing temperatures up to approx 950℃, and then decrease. An amount of Ar in 4.92%Ni steel cause a decrease of yield strength and yield ratio and an increase of strain hardening exponent. The strain-induced transformations of retained austenite into martensite and transformation induced plasticity(TRIP) take place in tensile tests of this steel. Resulting in the increases in elongation, tensile absorbing energy and plastic deformation absorbing energy .
