Abstract:The key to establish a successful alliance is to choose enterprises with good reputation through assessing the targeted enterprises. This paper explains it by the asymmetric information theory, game theory, transaction cost theory and resource-based theory and provides the theoretical foundation of choosing strategic alliance partners based on the corporate reputation.

Abstract:The strategic alliance is a new form of organization emerging in the global competition.The good cooperative relationship between the members is one of the key elements that determine the success of the alliance.From the economic sociology perspective,this paper analyses the social capital that exists in the relation network of the alliance,so it is significant to cultivate the social capital for the successful cooperation of the alliance.Based on the social capital model presented by Nahapiet and Ghoshal,the paper discusses the interdependence between the three dimensions of social capital:structural dimension,relational dimension and accordingly presents several approaches that cultivate social capital of the strategic alliance.

Abstract:In this paper,the relational dimension of social capital is studied,and the both relationship between relational dimension of social capital and knowledge transfer are analyzed.And uses questionnaire investigation method collects the conditions of knowledge transfer of 200 enterprises in alliance network.On the basis of this,the both relationship is demonstrated by using the effective data that are from 200 enterprises in alliance network.The empirical results indicate that relational dimension of social capital has closely related to knowledge transfer and it has influence on the effect of knowledge transfer through opportunity,motivation and ability of knowledge transfer mediate effect.

Abstract:R&D is the most important channel for firm to acquire the competitive advantage.However existing literature has documented that many participating firms’ performance is not satisfactory.Based on the theory of TCE,RC and OL,this research try to make an explanation for this question.Using survey data this article empirically examines the relationship between performance and relational capital and organizational learning.The results show that: First,relational capital and organizational learning can improve firm’s performance;Second,relational capita has U-curved relationship with contractual governance,and has lineal-curved relationship with relational governance;Last,firm’s learning intent and relational capital both have positive influence on organizational learning.

Abstract:The prosperity of interfirm alliance and the low success ratio makes the measure and the factors influencing alliance performance one of the most important academic problems.Based on the literatures,the paper argues that interfirm resource interdependence and relational quality separately influence the potential alliance value and the degree of realized potential alliance value,and thus influence alliance performance.With the data of 156 Beijing firms,the empirical research demonstrates that interfirm structural resource interdependence,trust,commitment,and communication significantly influence alliance performance.

Abstract:This paper studies the formation mechanism of the relationship resources in alliance networks by constructing a theoretical framework based on the two dimensions of characteristics of resource sharing and consciousness of strategic actions.It is argued that relationship resources are formulated with resource sharing effects,mining effects and spillover effects.We also find that the volume of relationship resources is influenced by relation-specific investment,resource-sharing routines,mutual complementarities of partner's resources,organizational compatibility and government mechanism.The sustainability of relationship resources depends on the completeness of isolation mechanism in alliance networks.

Abstract:The learning strategic alliance is a newly emerged form of alliance through which firms can acquire and absorb strategic knowledge through inter-organizational learning. The process of knowledge transfer is one of the key elements that determine the performance of the alliance. From the social network perspective, this paper analyses the inter-organizational social capital that exists in the social network of the alliance, and finds out that social capital can influence the process of the knowledge transfer from three dimensions: structural dimension, relational dimension and cognitive dimension. Based on the above analysis, this paper presents several approaches for the development of social capital among alliances.
Social Capital Related Paradoxes and Ambidextrous Alliance Innovation：The Role of Yin-Yang Thinking and Dynamic Combinations

Abstract:The positive impacts of ambidextrous innovation on firm performance have been well investigated in past research. Yet conceptualization and operationalization of ambidextrous innovation at the alliance level have not been systematically attempted. Based on related literature, this paper suggests that one equity-based strategic al-liance could gain its ambidextrous innovation (excellat both exploitative and exploratory innovation) through man-aging three social capital related paradoxes: cognitive capital and bridging ties, structural capital and structural modularity, and relational capital and contracts. A theoretical framework is then proposed to understand why we should pay attention to these nested paradoxes and how Yin-Yang thinking and dynamic combinations help deal with these paradoxes. From these discussions, we develop three propositions to facilitate future empirical testing of our conceptual framework. Finally, we indicate some key implications for theoretical research.

Abstract:Effective alliance control is critical to realize the potential of strategic alliance.Based on social exchange and institution theory,the study suggests personal relation and institutionalization are two critical determinants of control mechanisms in alliance.Especially,the impact of these two determinants is contingent on the developing stage of cooperation.With a survey about 365 inter-Chinese-firm alliances,we test the hypotheses.The theoretical and practical implication is discussed at the end of the paper.

Abstract:Based on TCE theory and capability perspective,the paper identifies the key func-tions of enterprise capabilities and relationship mechanisms in technical cooperation. Research re-sults show that the knowledge transfer ability of alliance partner and the absorptive ability of target enterprise have positive influence on the performance of the alliance,and the two abilities have significant interactions. The performance of non-equity strategic alliance is positively correlated with the application degree of the relationship mechanism of alliance. When there is a lot of tacit knowledge transfer in an alliance,higher alliance performance relies on the stronger absorptive a-bility of target enterprise and the relationship mechanism of the alliance. The study provides refer-ence to enterprises in understanding how to improve alliance performance in technical cooperation.

Abstract:For Chinese firms,international strategic alliance has been one ideal way of knowledge acquisition from their partners.However,Chinese firms haven't attained the expected outcome from it.Therefore,the main purpose of this study is to explore the effect of alliance experience on knowledge acquisition and the mediating effect of collaborative know-how.The conclusion is that the general alliance experience has a positive effect on collaborative know-how and knowledge acquisition.The effect of partner-specific alliance experience on collaborative know-how and knowledge acquisition exhibits diminishing marginal returns: as partner-specific alliance experience increases,its contribution decreases.For Chinese firms,the more the collaborative know-how is gotten from the alliance experience,the more knowledge acquires from their international partners.

Abstract:From the perspective of knowledge spillover, the paper studies the relational risks in the knowledge alliance cooperation be-tween enterprises. Firstly, based on the existing researches, the paper proposes that the formation of knowledge alliance is mainly due to complementary resource advantages achieving, cost and risk sharing, and mutual learning. Secondly, the paper systematically analyzes the generation mechanism of relational risks in the knowledge alliance cooperation relations and proposes a conceptual model. Finally, on the basis of the above analysis, the paper puts forward a relational risk prevention mechanism, which provides a theoretical reference for enter-prises to enhance their knowledge alliance partnership, and thus contributes to the sustainable development of knowledge alliance.

Abstract:We argue in this paper that strengthening cooperative relationships should be put as much emphasis upon as choosing appropriate tie modality in strategic networks of firms. Strategic networks of technological innovation are a firm's set of complex relationships with research institutes, universities, other firms and so on, in which relational embeddedness as a kind of important strategic resource could provide valuable information and resource. Based on the actuality of technological innovation in Chinese pharmaceutical firms, relational embeddedness is analyzed in strategic networks of technological innovation. It is proposed that the direction for the firms to choose the collaborative forms is to shape strong relational embeddedness with network members on the basis of field study. The firms are suggested to improve the extent of relational embeddedness by deepening current ties and gradually forming the stronger links. In the technology-driven world relational embeddedness is of important significance for technological innovation in the pharmaceutical firms, which is helpful to promote the capability of technological innovation and the upgrade of pharmaceutical industry.

Abstract:Strategic alliance is one of the most prevalent forms of open innovation.First,20 years of recent empirical research on alliance-based open innovation is systematically reviewed,in terms of a framework that distinguishes among three levels of analysis,individual versus dyad versus network.Then,the insights in six main categories of alliance innovation research such as alliance type,dyad match,innovation governance,alliance capability,and alliance portfolio,are synthesized.Based on the systematic review,4 future research directions,such as alliance capability construction path and mixed alliance portfolio management,are proposed.
Relational Risks and Performance Risks in Strategic Alliances:-Impacts of Environmental and Inter-organizational Factors

Abstract:Previous evidence has shown that the high failure rate of strategic alliances is largely determined by the multiple cooperation risks.This study attempts to explore the determinants of relational risks and performance risks in strategic alli-ances,including an external factor (i.e.,environmental uncertainty),a cultural factor (i.e.,cultural distance)and an inter-organizational factor (i.e.,shared vision).We examine these hypotheses using 205 paired partnering firms in China,which generate 41 0 valid questionnaires.Results from these data do not support the inverted-U shaped relationship between environmental uncertainty and relational risk.Predictions such as a positive relationship between environmental un-certainty and performance risk,a positive effect between cultural distance and relational risk,a U-shaped relationship be-tween cultural distance and performance risk,and a negative relationship between shared vision and both relational risk and performance risk are supported.Implications for theory and practice are discussed.

Based on the past literatures, this article analyzes the process of knowledge transfer in strategic alliances, and demonstrates the influence factors of that process and their impact. We expect to offer theoretical support for strategic alliances to make appropriate decisions about knowledge transfer and promote the performance of that.

Abstract:Alliance partner mismatching is the key factor that causes the alliance failure.Based on the documentation research,this paper makes a concrete analysis of matching standards of strategy alliance partners' characters,especially analyzing the impacts of alliance performance from resources complementary,strategy goal,enterprise culture and relationship before making the alliance.Meanwhile,the model to estimate alliance partners' matching status was built up;through discussion and questionnaire investigation,lots of sample data were collected,which verified the model of alliance partners' matching status.The results show that resources complementary,strategy goal,enterprise culture and relationship before making the alliance are most important indicators to make alliance for Chinese enterprises,but Chinese enterprises often do not paid attention on strategy goal matching during making the alliance.

Abstract:Since 1980s,strategic alliances have encountered the high rate of failure during the development process.According to the past research,the rate is up to 50-70%.Yet the determinants of strategic alliance performance have not been explored systematically in the literature.This article submits that the incorrect partner selection,improper state of cooper-competition,and the lacking of coherent measure of alliance performance lead to the failure.The partner analysis is composed of the partner's attribute(resource,market,strategic goals and culture) and the match between partners in these fields.These factors do affect the cooper-competition between them that forms the overall state of alliance.Resource based theory and Cooper-competition theory has been used in the analysis.By integrating the match of alliance partners,the cooper-competition between them,and the performance,the article develops a theoretical framework of determinants of alliance performance concentrating on alliance partner analysis.Through the analysis and research,the findings aim to indicate its key implications for future research and managerial practice.
